The cloud mass starts east of Hudson Bay ...

... and travels all the way across the picture to west of Alaska. That is the cold arctic air moving down from the North Pole. The geographic North Pole. It's difficult from this vantage point to know if it relates to the magnetic North Pole. It would be fascinating to know, too. I have said the entire time, since 2002 when the vortices first manifested that they were ionic (electricially charged.) So it would be fascinating to realize how much the magnetic field does or does not play in their power.

So.

That is the source of the frigid air.

The weather in Boston (Crystal Ice Chime) is:

18 °F / -8 °C
Snow Showers Blowing Snow Showers Freezing Fog

Windchill:
0 °F / -18 °C

Humidity:
79%

Dew Point:
12 °F / -11 °C

Wind:
22 mph / 35 km/h from the North

Wind Gust:
34 mph / 56 km/h

Pressure:
29.42 in / 996 hPa

Visibility:
0.2 miles / 0.4 kilometers

Realizing this, now imagine the severity of the temperatures as if there were no 'hot moisture' form the equator to create all that snow. I'll put that here in a minute or two. The snow is not coming from this vortex, only the cold air is.

The moisture comes off the equator and is cooled into snow by the Arctic Air. Satllite below.
