Venezuela was never a USA possession. There are scads and scads of troubled relations between countries around the world, but, the USA has no claim to Venezuela.
Most often other conflicts are based in sovereign principles and not asset disputes. Trump is wrong. I think it was Chavez that wrote a book about the South American silver mines that were raided by colonial powers from Europe.
If Exxon lost assets to a change of government in Venezuela it is up to Exxon to seek relief from the new government through court proceedings. The USA military is not a corporate mercenary power.
As much free nations dislike Maduro and/or the autocratic regime there is no USA basis for conflict. Changing governments occur. American soldiers do not receive a corporate paycheck. Last I remember that is a job for Eric Prince.
The USA attempts diplomacy to bring about benevolent relationships with other countries. When Nixon went to China it opened a door to an isolated peoples. American corporations set up business in communist China. The tone in the relationship was very different then. But, one thing has never changed and that is the government has its own way of walking and talking. That means it is not business as usual. Heck, the language isn’t the same. Cultural differences don’t translate well.
It is called eminent domain.
