...Meanwhile, (click title to entry - thank you) NHC says Helene made landfall as a weak tropical storm with winds of 40 mph just south of Tampico, Mexico.
As of late Saturday afternoon, Helene had weakened to a tropical depression with only 30 mph winds, about 65 miles west northwest of Tampico. Helene is expected to dissipate over northeast Mexico Saturday night into Sunday.
A third potential system is also being monitored for tropical development in the far eastern Atlantic, located a couple hundred miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
NHC says conditions appear conducive for gradual development during the next few days and this system has a medium chance (50 percent chance) of becoming a tropical depression or storm as it moves westward at 15 to 20 mph.
The Atlantic basin is in its most active period (Aug.15 to Sept.15) leading up to the peak of the hurricane season in mid-September....
