Endangered Status Sought for Polar Bears

The polar bear, an icon of the great white north, is in peril, its icy home melting beneath its paws, an environmental group argued Wednesday in formally petitioning the Bush administration to grant the animals protection under the Endangered Species Act.

Polar Bears are actually considered to be Marine Mammals. They live their entire lives dependent on ice and the life of the Arctic Ocean. Polar Bears are only found in the Northern Hemisphere. They live hunting seals. If the Ice Flows are gone they are not able to hunt. If they cannot hunt they lose body weight. If they lose body weight they freeze in the frigid water and die. These bears are unique just like the penguins of the Antarctica. They need protection. Their habitat is disappearing. To save Polar Bears is to save ourselves.
