Typhoon Haiyan
The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) (click here) on NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired this natural color image of Super Typhoon Haiyan as it approached the east coast of the Philippines. The image was acquired at 1:25 p.m. local time (4:25 Universal Time) on November 7, 2013.

...Haiyan (click here) had maximum sustained winds on Friday morning of 315km/h, and gusts of 379km/h, according to the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Centre.
Masters said the previous record for the strongest typhoon to make landfall was Hurricane Camille, which hit Mississippi in the United States with winds of 305km/h in 1969.
Philippine President Benigno Aquino on Thursday warned his countrymen to make all possible preparations for Haiyan.
"To our local officials, your constituents are facing a serious peril. Let us do all we can while (Haiyan) has not yet hit land," Aquino said in a nationally televised address.
Aquino warned areas within the 600km typhoon front would be exposed to severe flooding as well as devastating winds, while coastal areas may see waves six metres high.
More than 125,000 people in the most vulnerable areas had been moved to evacuation centres before Haiyan hit, according to the civil defence office, and millions of others braced for the typhoon in their homes....

This Pope is an incredible humanitarian.

Pope Francis (click here) caresses a sick person in Saint Peter’s Square at the end of his General Audience in Vatican City, 06 November 2013.

As stated by the "Vatican Insider" the man has neurofibromatosis. Pope Francis reminds us that no matter the burdens we carry in our own lives there are those with far greater burdens than we can ever imagine.

Zero Trans Fats.

This is a trans Fat. It has a carbon chain that extends from both sides of the double bond in the middle of the molecule.

Before now, the enemy was more or sell saturated fats.  Trans fats are considered unsaturated fats. Below is a saturated fat molecule. The similarity is in the shape of the molecule.

The molecule below is an oleic fat molecule. It is an unsaturated fat like trans fat, except, it's carbon chains are on the same side of the double bond in the center. This is considered a cis molecule.

Cis and trans fats have the same chemical formula, but, are arranged differently as molecules. One of the reasons saturated fats are bad for any diet is because they are a very stable molecule and don't break down easily. There are no real angles for other molecules to bond and break the chain into organically usable molecules. It would appear the shape of the fat molecule is more the concern than the double bond. So, the cis molecule has a larger and more prominent surface area to be effected by chemical reactions to make the carbon chains available for use in metabolism.

Cis fat, in the molecule immediately above, is found in 85% of olive oil.

Monounsaturated Fat Food Sources (click here)
While trans-fats are harmful to the body, foods containing cis-fats are beneficial. Monounsaturated cis-fats decrease LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and increase HDL. Foods containing a high percentage of monounsaturated fats include almonds, avocados, bacon, canola oil, cashews, eggs, grape seed oil, ground beef, hazelnuts, high oleic safflower oil, high oleic sunflower oil, macadamia nuts, olives, olive oil, pecans, peanuts, peanut oil, pistachios, sunflower oil and tea seed oil.

It was Rubio, Rand Paul and who else, some other Republican all over Christi's re-election.

We know who is running now. They may as well just announce. I thought this editorial was interesting.  Europe is terrified of the Tea Party after their run in with Bush post 911.

Chris Christie (click here) can say that his party can show up in the places they are not comfortable and still win

The Guardian

Mr Christie is the pro-life conservative who can get votes from women, the union-bashing Republican who can attract Hispanics and African-Americans. Whether he could repeat the same trick in New Jersey if, as a presidential candidate, he were running against Hillary Clinton, is another matter. But for now, he can now look fellow Republicans, still mesmerised by Tea Party puritans, in the eye and say that his party can show up in the places they are not comfortable and still win....

Many forget that Governor Chris Christie's star quality had him on the trail in 2012 as a favorite guest at the election podium. It wasn't just President Obama that benefited from Christi's sincerity.

I am quite confident Republicans, especially southern Republicans want to wipe the slate clean and hack away at the Governor's popularity.

Look, he wouldn't be the first Jerseyite to make the Oval Office. Grover Cleveland and Woodrow Wilson were from New Jersey. There is plenty of reason to believe the Governor has a good chance at winning the Republican nomination and succeeding into the White House.

As a matter of fact, both those Presidents served eight years. And of course, Wilson was re-elected while the USA was involved in WWI. But, Wilson was the author of "The League of Nations" now considered The United Nations. The Republican contenders have plenty to worry about, but, the Governor has a lot of work to do in New Jersey to maintain his luster before he announces his run to follow President Obama.

...In a field too often dominated either by machine politicians or weirdos, Mr Christie's attraction to independents is considerable. He has an oversized personality. He is the bruiser on the stump who can eat hecklers for breakfast. Charlie Cook of Cook Report fame said he would pay money to see him being called a liberal by a Tea Party heckler in Iowa and watching the New Jersey governor "reach down the guy's throat and pull his lungs out"....

With Presidential contenders shaking in their shorts after the Governor's win, it is easy to say the GOP won't seek to reform itself because it is the only method of separating them from a man capable of winning over the nation.
