The global community should take notice, the first promise Minority Leader Pelosi mentioned after the US House was secured was the return of the Climate Change Committee.

I was surprised to hear how the US House had a bipartisan agreement to pass legislation regarding equality with the LGBT community, assurances for health care and other important issues. The problem was getting them to the US House floor. Paul Ryan stonewalled everything. For two years, Ryan refused to bring any bills to the US House for a vote even though there was bipartisan support for it.

The bills will pass now. It is important the public stay engaged and on the phones to their Senators to ensure passage of the bills the US House already has prepared.

House Democrats (click here) are planning to resurrect a special committee focused on climate change, giving them a platform to spotlight an issue on which polls show President Donald Trump is out of step with the public.

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California will ask her colleagues to reconstitute the select committee, which was created under her watch 11 years ago and disbanded by Republicans after they took control of the House in January 2011. The plan was described by senior Democratic aides who asked not to be named before a formal announcement.

If lawmakers vote to resurrect the panel, it would give Democrats a chance to amplify concerns about climate change following a dire United Nations report as well as scrutinize the Trump administration’s approach to the issue....

The President is not attending to the most urgent matters.

I don't care if Putin himself is doing nothing but sunbathing in the Mediterranean Sea, the missile ship DOES NOT BELONG THERE!

The world has changed. It changed when Putin broke treaties that endangered people in Ukraine. The Russians no longer get a pass on their military priorities because they no longer can be trusted. To think the USA would stand by and allow this to occur immediately after Putin stated openly he is preparing for war since the intermediate nuclear missile treaty was canceled is completely unconscionable!

The next thing we know there will be Russian missle bases in Cuba again!

The Russian guided-missile frigate Admiral Makarov arrives at the Bay of Sevastopol to join Russia's Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, Crimea October 5, 2018.

Moscow (Reuters) - Russia said it deployed (click here) its new frigate with long-range Kalibr cruise missiles to the Mediterranean Sea on Monday, a few months after Moscow had reinforced its naval forces off Syrian cost.

“The Black Sea Navy Fleet’s frigate Admiral Makarov left (Navy base) Sevastopol and laid a course for the Black Sea straits. The vessel will be acting in the standing naval force of the Russian fleet in the Mediterranean,” the Russian Defence Ministry said in statement.

Russia has in the past fired Kalibr cruise missiles from frigates and submarines stationed in the Mediterranean Sea at militant targets to support Syrian army offensives.

The ministry did not say whether the frigate was supposed to take part in the military operation in Syria where Moscow has backed President Bashar al-Assad since entering the war in 2015.

Malignant narcissism must be a real bitch, huh?

Trump is attempting to redefine the international understanding of asylum. Will the work of the ACLU ever end with this president? I hope they are collecting donations and seeking grants and asking judges for reimbursement for this mess that Trump manages to manufacturer. Trump cannot unilaterally call asylum a travel ban.

The immigration jails and courts are overburdened the way it is and now Trump is making a bigger mess that will tie them up even further.

As U.S. troops unfurl concertina wire (click here) along the banks of the Rio Grande, the Trump administration is preparing to announce new measures Thursday to fence off the U.S. immigration system by denying the ability of migrants to seek asylum in the United States if they enter illegally.

The restrictions would rely on emergency powers invoked by the president to implement his "travel ban" in early 2017, according to U.S. officials with knowledge of the plans. Legal challenges seeking to delay or block the asylum restrictions are expected to follow.

The measures have been prepared over the past several weeks to satisfy President Donald Trump's demand for ways to thwart caravan groups moving north through Mexico with an estimated 7,000 to 10,000 Central Americans.

Privately, Homeland Security officials acknowledge the new restrictions, at least on their own, are unlikely to achieve the kind of immediate deterrent effect the White House desires....

...There are two primary ways (click here) in which a person may apply for asylum in the United States: the affirmative process and the defensive process. Asylum seekers who arrive at a U.S. port of entry or enter the United States without inspection generally must apply through the defensive asylum process. Both processes require the asylum seeker to be physically present in the United States.

The affirmative process can occur after a person is in the USA. There is nothing to say when a visitor arrives for whatever reason they are here, things change back home. In recent years there was a coup attempt in Turkey. Any Turkish citizen within the USA legally is under no obligation to return to a country in chaos. Their safety is obviously in peril. Turkey did not continue to become unstable and returned to established leadership, but, if it hadn't such an emergency can spawn the need for asylum of people here legally.

Affirmative Asylum: A person who is not in removal proceedings may affirmatively apply for asylum through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), a division of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). If the USCIS asylum officer does not grant the asylum application and the applicant does not have a lawful immigration status, he or she is referred to the immigration court for removal proceedings, where he or she may renew the request for asylum through the defensive process and appear before an immigration judge.

Defensive Asylum is what the migrants will be seeking once they get to the USA border; if they get here. We know for a fact through USA intelligence they have grounds. The violence is obvious and their lives are in peril. They have options IF they pass the background check. If they are criminals they will be remanded to the USA courts or deported back to their homeland. It depends on where the criminal act has taken place, here or there.

But, if they are legitimately at the USA border because their lives are in danger or their chilren can be taken for child soldiers, then they open a legal proceeding that begin the process to the status of asylum.

Defensive Asylum: A person who is in removal proceedings may apply for asylum defensively by filing the application with an immigration judge at the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) in the Department of Justice. In other words, asylum is applied for “as a defense against removal from the U.S.” Unlike the criminal court system, EOIR does not provide appointed counsel for individuals in immigration court, even if they are unable to retain an attorney on their own.

With or without counsel, an asylum seeker has the burden of proving that he or she meets the definition of a refugee. Asylum seekers often provide substantial evidence throughout the affirmative and defensive processes demonstrating either past persecution or that they have a “well-founded fear” of future persecution in their home country. However, the individual’s own testimony is usually critical to his or her asylum determination....

...To ensure that the United States does not violate international and domestic laws by returning individuals to countries where their life or liberty may be at risk, the credible fear and reasonable fear screening processes are available to asylum seekers in expedited removal processes....

Universal Declaration of Human Rights (click here)

Eleanor Roosevelt (click here) reads the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

...Article 14.

(1) Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution.

(2) This right may not be invoked in the case of prosecutions genuinely arising from non-political crimes or from acts contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations....

What are they smoking in the White House or is Huckabee a true Neanderthal, brow ridge and all.

Jim Acosta has a responsibility as the chief White House correspondent. It was about time someone stood up to Trump who lies about everything. Jim Acosta did the right thing in bringing TRUTH TO POWER!

Does Sanders actually know that Infowars is FAKE NEWS? She has a responsibility to carry the truth forward and if Inforwars is her understanding of life, she is not qualified to be dog catcher.

If she is not respected, there is a reason and she needs to put her big girl panties on and figure out what the world is all about and it isn't Infowars.

Jim Acosta is CNN's chief White House correspondent, (click here) currently covering the Trump administration and previously covered the Obama administration from the White House and around the world. He regularly covers presidential press conferences, visits by heads of states, and issues impacting the Executive Branch of the federal government.

I want to know the IQ of the people involved with sabotaging the media and substituting Fake News in the White House.

This report appears in Haaertz. The USA is becoming the laughing stock of the world.

I want a different press secretary that doesn't lie and pout over confrontation with Trump over the fact he NEVER speaks to the press, except, to complain that he is right and they are wrong. Acosta was not wrong in demanding the President deal with reality.

Inforwars is nothing but Fake News. Sanders has destroyed her credibility with this method of demeaning the press.

November 8, 2018

The day after his party lost (click here) its lock on the U.S. Congress, U.S. President Donald Trump walked into a White House press conference ready for political combat, name-checking Republicans who he blamed for losing their seats and lashing out at reporters who challenged his assertions - giving CNN's Jim Acosta particular attention.

The next day White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is facing accusations from reporters that she shared an edited video of the exchange between  Acosta and an administration aide.

Sanders tweeted the video, which was apparently first created by banned conspiracy theory website Infowars, from her official account to justify the White House's decision to revoke Acosta’s press pass....

Edward Snowden? Interesting. He should be home in the USA.

There is no such thing as a secure internet. I am certain this software is used to detect terrorists. The terrorist networks are heavily reliant on cell phones. But, in the wrong hands it becomes a threat to people other than terrorists.

Kaspersky (click here)
...There actually is malware in the wild that targets iOS users — it’s been proved a number of times, and in August 2016 researchers proved it again by revealing the existence of Pegasus, spyware capable of hacking any iPad or iPhone, harvesting data about the victim, and establishing surveillance on them. That discovery made the whole cybersecurity world… uneasy....

...As for surveillance, let’s be clear: We’re talking total surveillance. Pegasus is modular malware. After scanning the target’s device, it installs the necessary modules to read the user’s messages and mail, listen to calls, capture screenshots, log pressed keys, exfiltrate browser history, contacts, and so on and so forth. Basically, it can spy on every aspect of the target’s life....

Encryption is worthless. It has it's own self-defense so it cannot be detected.

...It’s also noteworthy that Pegasus could even listen to encrypted audio streams and read encrypted messages — thanks to its keylogging and audio recording capabilities, it was stealing messages before they were encrypted (and, for incoming messages, after decryption)....

The Android version is Chrysaor. Chrysaor was the brother of the winged horse Pegasus and son of Poseidon and the Gorgon Medusa.

Read the rest of the Kaspersky article as it claims there is a defense against Pegasus by iOS. I don't know what type of cell phone Jamal Khashoggi had, but, defenses didn't help him.

El Aviv — NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden (click here) told an Israeli audience on Tuesday that surveillance software designed by an Israeli company had been used to target groups of journalists in Mexico as well as Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi who was murdered last month in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Snowden, speaking to a Tel Aviv conference hosted by Israeli public relations firm OH! Orenstein Hoshen via video feed, stated that secretive Israeli cyberwarfare firm NSO Group Technologies has been “selling a digital burglary tool” that has been used by governments to spy on citizens and journalists in particular. Snowden did not attend the conference in person due to concern that he could be handed over to U.S. authorities. He was granted asylum by the government of Russia, where he currently resides, in 2013.

He explained that even if some “good actors” use NSO’s surveillance software, known as Pegasus, “it is not just being used for catching criminals and stopping terrorist attacks…not just for saving lives, but for making money…such a level of recklessness…actually starts costing lives.” Pegasus is a government-exclusive “lawful intercept” spyware program that is not available to the general public or even non-state clients.

During the conference, Snowden stated that NSO’s software had been used to track Saudi journalist and U.S. resident Jamal Khashoggi prior to his murder in Istanbul last month. Snowden’s assertion comes after a report last month revealed that Israel sold Pegasus to Saudi Arabia after a series of covert meetings in the United States and the United Kingdom as part of a deal that netted Israel an estimated $250 million.

Additionally, a group of Canadian academics revealed last month that they had noted a “significant expansion of Pegasus usage” by Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and that these governments were largely targeting dissidents and journalists living abroad. Saudi Arabia also recently came under fire for using the software to target global human rights advocacy group Amnesty International....

My opinion.

PTSD and Urban Warfare

The tear gas was used by soldiers to confuse the occupants of a building to allow their safe entry. He immediately turned to his right to kill anyone that could have thwarted his mission. The name of the bar was as much a part of the mission as the weapon. The shooter was reacting to the issue of the southern border. He was a soldier on a mission to end danger to America. He was out of control and off medication or not taking effective medication to help him cope with his PTSD.

He knew the bar and was probably there before. His ability to disarm any security was a plan. He was a very good soldier. He was a killer.

This event is different than the average wacko killer. He had advanced training to kill. It is questionable as to whether he needed hospitalization in April when the intervention team was dispatched to his home. I would be interested in knowing if the intervention team wanted to hospitalize him, but, was unable to GET A BED at a hospital or VA hospital.

The number of AVAILABLE (empty) mental health beds is a profound problem in the USA.

Egypt's el-Sisi is resolving all the problems for Gaza.

There have been movement between Fatah and Hamas. The two have agreed to work together. Abbas will be returning pay to government employees in Gaza. Abbas has agreed to honor the ceasefire between Gaza and Israel.

November 3, 2018

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas (click here) is due to meet Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Sharm el-Sheikh where they are expected to discuss Palestinian reconciliation and the situation in Gaza.

Abbas had arrived in the Red Sea resort city on Friday to participate in the World Youth Forum at the invitation of el-Sisi. The forum, running for the second year, is a four-day event beginning from November 3 and will focus on themes of peace, development and creativity.

According to a statement posted on the embassy's Facebook profile on the same day, the Palestinian Ambassador to Cairo, Diab al-Louh, said the meeting will discuss the latest Palestinian political developments, as well as issues of mutual interest....

While this is wonderful news without a doubt, it comes at a difficult time for Israel. The Jordan flag is now flying over land that was formerly occupied by Israel and Israeli Arabs are now excluded by Saudi Arabia at Hajj. The issue lies with not only the Saudi government but, also Jordan is not issuing passports for those Palestinians.

The Gulf Kingdom (click here) issued the veto on Palestinians with Israeli citizenship entering the country, meaning they cannot make Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Islam’s holiest site made by millions of Muslims each year.

Since 1978 Palestinian Muslims have been able to use temporary Jordanian passport to enter and leave Saudi Arabia.

But Riyadh has now closed this loophole.

Israeli citizens are not accepted in 16 Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia.

Justice Ginsberg is tough as nails. She went home before she decided the pain was more than she could handle alone. She needs bumpers. She probably needs a permanent assistant if she doesn't have one already. I look forward to her return. I am sure she is capable of catching up on cases being heard. Unfortunately, her questions (if any) won't be heard.

Who's the gunman and what is the motive, pure hate?

This is not a bar fight. Not with a 45 mm semi-automatic Glock. This was a planned attack, why?

November 8, 2018

...The first reports (click here) of shots fired came around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. Early eyewitness accounts suggested that the shooter, who may have dressed in all black with a large trench coat, threw a smoke grenade into the bar before opening fire first on an employee at the door and then on random people. Dean said some people inside the bar broke windows to escape gunfire, and hid inside restrooms and attics. Shots were still being fired when officers arrived on the scene. Officers said about 30 shots had been fired....

Jim Acosta and CNN need to sue the White House for a return of credentials.

CNN works hard at being reputable. I think the programming is a little slower paced generally than other cable news networks, but, it is perfectly reputable. The result totals in the elections were occasionally ahead of other networks. I watched the election returns across a few stations and CNN was trying it's best to please the visuals of "white men" in their reporting of the election. There was nothing wrong with their reporting, it was as accurate with factual information than any other network.

In the case of Trump, he simply won't admit he has a bigoted view of the world. It is uncertain how many people from the Northern Triad will make it to the USA border, but, if it is significantly higher numbers than usual arrivals, the Border Patrol could use some help.

What the President should be doing is using factual statistics to back up any actions he takes along the border. There is evidence of the use of force by the Border Patrol, but, that is in response to assaults by illegal border crossings. The accomplishments in reducing drug traffic by the Border Patrol is admirable.

In FY17, (click here) CBP recorded the lowest level of illegal cross-border migration on record, as measured by apprehensions along the border and inadmissible encounters at U.S. ports of entry.

CBP recorded 310,531 apprehensions by U.S. Border Patrol agents and 216,370 inadmissible cases by CBP officers in FY17, a 23.7 percent decline over the previous year. Illegal migration along the Southwest border declined sharply from Jan. 21 through April, which was the month with the lowest border enforcement activity on record.

This reflects the Administration’s commitment to enforce the rule of law as directed in the President’s executive order: Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements, issued Jan. 25.

In May however, CBP began to see a month-over-month increase in apprehensions and inadmissible cases along the Southwest border, notably of children either as part of a family unit or unaccompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

By the end of the year, family-unit apprehensions and inadmissible cases reached 104,997 along the Southwest border. Another 48,681 unaccompanied children were apprehended or determined to be inadmissible.

CBP continues to be concerned about the steady increase in the flow of unaccompanied children and family units from Central America, as transnational criminal organizations continue to exploit legal and policy loopholes to help illegal aliens gain entry and automatic release into the interior of the country....'

Homeland Security needs to make itself more clear as to the policies and loopholes they refer to in their report. Catch and release, when done well, is an effective and humane method of handling border crossings. Homeland Security may not like it, but, it is a legitimate method of processing border crossings. Because the President may complain and not like it also doesn't mean it is not effective or humane. There are issues of human rights the Border Patrol cannot ignore that is part of policy because we are the USA.

For God Sake, children are children and do the Border Patrol or the President stop to think about the children that do make it to border rather than being kidnapped, incorporated into cartels as child soldiers or simply die in the process of coming to the USA border?

U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 536 illegal aliens who were affiliated with a gang, including,

228 MS-13;
66 Surenos;
53 Paisas;
and 61 18th Street gang members.

CBP law enforcement personnel also played a critical counter-narcotics role, resulting in the seizure of more than 2.14 million pounds of narcotics and the disruption of more than 81,000 pounds of narcotics in FY17.

CBP seized:

1.59 million pounds of marijuana;
273,580 pounds cocaine;
66,617 pounds of methamphetamine;
5,760 pounds of heroin;
and 1,485 pounds of fentanyl.

While most illicit drug smuggling attempts occur along the Southwest border, CBP has seen a growing threat of illicit synthetic drugs smuggled to the U.S. through the international mail and express consignment carrier (ECC) environment. Several types of illicit synthetic drugs also called “designer drugs,” are being sold and shipped to end users in the U.S., including synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, synthetic cannabinoids, and synthetic cathinones, commonly known as “bath salts.”...

No American wants these drugs in the USA. The Border Patrol is no different than any other law enforcement in that it faces danger on a regular basis. I think what bothers Trump about the crossings is the fact these folks are ruining his policy directives. It looks good to be able to cut foreign aid and at the same time have improving statistics at the border, but, that didn't happen the way he thought it would, so he demonized the migrants.

...In FY17, approximately 58 percent of U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions were individuals from countries other than Mexico—predominately individuals from Central America—up from 54 percent last year. Of the 310,531 apprehensions nationwide, 303,916 were along the Southwest border. Of those along the Southwest border, 162,891 were from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. Another 127,938 were from Mexico. Of those apprehended by the U.S. Border Patrol, 10 percent had been apprehended at least one other occasion in FY17, down from 12 percent in FY16. This is also known as recidivism....

The Northern Triad is a known issue. The USA provides foreign aid to help those three countries rise above poverty and instill an economy that works to employ the people and provide for increases in quality of life. When that foreign aid stops, there are consequences. That is why there are more young men this time than ever before.

When President Trump's policies don't work he demonizes the issue and leaves it up to the low or NO information voter to hate the media that says otherwise. President Trump cheapens his presidency when stooping to insults at a news conference. But, that is what his base likes to see. He really has no tolerance for the media at all.

I would like to point to a fact I am sure President Trump would like everyone to ignore. In FY 2017, there was a total of 303,916 reported crossings. Of those 408 were known gang members. The number of known gang members crossing the USA border is less than 1 percent and slightly more than .1 percent. That is an extremely small number and the President exploits the reality and makes it sound as though there are many, many more gang members crossing the USA borders. That is a mistake on his part as the facts are plainly obvious. When those 408 gang members cross without detection and then kill Americans it makes the entire issue explode. We know how we feel about one American death and that adds to the dynamic the president exploits.

The border patrol is doing a great job. It is unfortunate our military have to leave their families to participate in what is a Trump policy failure.

I think President Trump needs to make peace with the media. I am sure they have very good constructive criticism that will minimize the radical reactions to the hate speech used by President Trump in his rallies and that can't be anything but a good thing. He won the Senate, that is what he wanted.
