The demonstrators in France are correct.

It is about discrimination, if not racism. The school involved is basically a ghetto school. From what I can discern it would be the equivalent in the USA of Camden at its worse.

The students want to learn but the teachers are inconsistently hired. No one wants to teach at that school. There are more students than desks. It is the poor kid school with some students traveling an hour or more one way to get there. When they arrive the quality of the education is very bad. The students have no alternatives.

France needs to improve their circumstances. How France does that can be a matter of improving the income of the parent(s) so a better school can be found or a government program like bussing.

There is another way. Distant learning. Give the students “Amazon Kindles” and contact Oxford University Press for electronic books and tests.

That is not a joke. Distant learning is employed by other countries such as Canada through Oxford content and Amazon technology. Kindergarten through high school graduation learning at home. The young people that are old enough can also work part time while using other time for their studies.

Distant learning eliminates the need for infrastructure projects and provides relief immediately or as soon as it can be arranged.
