A press secretary has to know what to do when entering that room.

They are not the enemy. They are allies to the American people's right to know. They work hard to understand government policy and explain it along with delivering the news.

There are propaganda outlets that like to call themselves "infotainmnet" with little interest in the truth so much as politics. Politics is their power base.

Regardless of whether the journalists are there to actually engage the truth or fantasy they are bright people. If a press secretary tries to feel her way through this crowd, it will not go well.

The appointment of Zacharia is unfortunate, but, it is not out of line with other Trump choices. He has allowed people to have full exposure to the government without first securing the country. Trump, in his insane pursuit of exonerating himself of any wrong doing in the past has caused a great deal of damage to the country and the freedom of the press. Placing an unqualified Press Secretary at the podium is as good as propaganda which robs the American people of their government. Such lack of expertise in the Press Secretary is a facade that allows deception and hidden agendas.

The press has every right to demand a Press Secretary that knows the job and delivers information vital to the country.

Journalists are not stenographers regardless of the fact Trump would rather it that way. Journalists are the front lines.
