They don't have rights to carry on like this, except, for the 'allowance' of the USA and State Government. Even Palin removed funding for the Alaska Militia at one point.
After September 11, 2001 there were government raids on the compounds within the USA. They removed high level munitions including a few missiles. Their prowess has been very watered down since then, but, they can still cook up bombs. They are survivalists. They are a criminal element in the USA. Allowing their presence is allowing criminality to exist.
They hate journalists because it is there belief that journalists expose their existence. Ya think? They hate journalists right up to the point where a journalist will serve their purpose as in this video. The two star performers in the video were members of the Michigan militia, but, felt more secure in Alaska. McVeigh was once a Michigan Militia member. The Michigan Militia is where these groups have their roots in one manner or another.
They aren't legal at all. There is no Paul Revere there. Okay? They exist because of political pressure. It is the only reason they exist.
