July 10, 2005. Caption: Waves ponder the shoreline of Playa Giron in Cuba, about 211 km (131 miles) southeast of Havana and 85 km (53 miles) south of Cienfuegos, as Hurricane Dennis approaches July 8, 2005. Dangerously strong Hurricane Dennis, a Category Four hurricane packing winds near 145-mph (233-kph), made landfall along the south-central coast of Cuba on Friday, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. A projected track still shows the storm moving into the Gulf of Mexico late Friday, aiming close to key oil and gas fields off the coasts of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama this weekend before making landfall on the Florida Panhandle late Sunday or early Monday.
