Snow and cold weather grips much of Canada - but Atlantic Canada suffers most (click here)
FREDERICTON - As residents of Atlantic Canada dug out Wednesay from the fourth winter storm in a week, the man considered Canada's unofficial weather guru said it appears Mother Nature is repeatedly taking aim at the region.
"Every storm born in the United States or anywhere over North America, whether they be Alberta Clippers or Colorado Lows, Texas Depressions, or whatever, seem to leave the continent via Atlantic Canada," said David Phillips, senior climatologist with Environment Canada.
In Fredericton, snow piles are nearing the bottom of stop signs in some neighbourhoods.
"It's crazy," said Sebastien Godin as he shovelled a path to the street from his home. "It hasn't snowed like this in a long time."
The latest storm dumped at least 20 centimetres of snow over southern New Brunswick, northern Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, but high winds quickly sculpted massive snowdrifts almost 60 centimetres deep....

Have you had enough yet, America ?

I said it. I said it. I said it many times. "$100 per barrel oil by the end of 2007." I missed it by less than three days. Not bad.

Big Oil couldn't stand to hold off anymore !

The USA dollar has been diminished in purchasing capacity again. The DOW is down. But, every 'so called expert' states, this is nothing. "We have been here before." "Given inflation we have had these prices in the 80's"

What a joke !!! $100 a barrel is $100 a barrel. I currently purchase a railway pass for $15.00 per week. THAT was FIFTEEN dollars US per WEEK. And that's it. I'm lovin' it !!!

Iowa University 'E-Market' Predicts Caucus Winners, Losers (click on title)
The Iowa Electronic Markets at the University of Iowa also predicts that the Democratic nominee will beat the Republican in the November elections.

Based on its results so far, no matter how well Barack Obama does in the Iowa caucuses on Thursday, Hillary Clinton is still going to be the Democratic nominee.
The Des Moines Register poll showed Obama leading Clinton on the eve of the Iowa party caucuses by a margin of 32% to 25% on Wednesday.
But the Iowa Electronic Markets at the University of Iowa makes a different prediction. Shares on Clinton as of midnight Tuesday, the most recent available, were worth 63.3 cents, or more than twice as much as those on Obama, worth 24.4 cents. Former Sen. John Edwards came in at 12 cents. The values are equivalent to percentages of a party's voting electorate. The trading in various candidacies for their party's nomination has been going on since March 2.
On the Republican side, the IEM showed Mitt Romney emerging as the party's nominee in November by a margin of 29.6% to 23.3% for Rudy Giuliani and 23% for John McCain. Mike Huckabee trailed the field with 15% compared with Fred Thompson's 3.6%.
The IEM is a futures trading market set up as an ongoing experiment by the University of Iowa's Tippie College of Business.
In 1996, 2000, and 2004, it called close presidential races correctly and has often been cited as one of the first functioning examples of "the wisdom of crowds." It predicted Al Gore would win the popular vote by a narrow margin in 2000 and President Bush would prevail over Democrat John Kerry in 2004.
The markets allow individuals, often university faculty and grad students, to trade with $5 to $500, placing their bets on shares that represent various Republican and Democratic candidates. But the market is not strictly a local or state-based phenomenon. It is open to anyone around the world who pays a $5 fee to set up an account and boasts about 7,000 traders. As individuals buy and sell stock in the various candidates on an open market, the exchange offers them the chance to make or lose small amounts of money.
The IEM is being run as an ongoing test of whether marketplaces can serve as a way of screening out sentiment and biased political opinion in favor of a broader and more realistic point of view.
The goal for the traders is to back the right candidate for his or her party's nomination, and make money on the investment. The money has to be placed behind a candidate early enough to reap the gains as other traders start backing the same candidate, driving up share prices. The backers of winning candidates collect $1 per share, regardless of what they paid to obtain the shares.
The "wisdom of crowds" principle is now used on social Web sites such as Digg and Del.icio.us. In political races, such marketplaces have a reputation for being within 1.3% of actual results, or closer than public opinion polls. But they often are most accurate close to election, not far in advance of it. The IEM on the 2008 November election shows the Democratic nominee beating the Republican in the November elections, regardless of who the nominees are, by a margin of 51.1% to 48.8%.
"Sen. Clinton can survive a second- or even third-place showing in Iowa, as long as the gap behind the first-place finisher is not too large," said University of Iowa political scientist Peverill Squire.
On the Republican side, Mike Huckabee made a strong debut on the Iowa Electronic Markets on Dec. 5 but then slowly faded through his first day of trading. The price of a Huckabee contract opened at 23.2 cents on the IEM's Republican nomination market, indicating that the market believed Huckabee had a 23.2% chance of being the Republican nominee. This was close behind the second-place price of Mitt Romney, whose contract was trading at 23.9 cents. But by 8 a.m. Dec. 6, Huckabee's price had fallen to 19.8 cents, while Romney's had risen to 24.9. On the eve of the primary, Romney was trading at 29.6 while Huckabee was down to 15 cents.

Hillary Clinton needs to interview with Michael Moore and I'll tell you why rather than just demand.

While running her national campaign in nomination for the Democratic Party, Hillary needs to remind the nation of her experience and influence when she was First Lady, as well as a Senator from New York.

The above photo is from an article that appeared recently in The New York Times (click here). The nation of the USA, all to easily forgets the improvement in relations that took place while "The Clintons" were in The Executive Branch. Well, I didn't forget and Hillary needs to remind the nation of her accomplishments as First Lady as well as that as Senator. It was difficult to find references (which goes to show how the media believes women are insignificant regardless of what they say) regarding the influence of The First Lady with Pakistan to cite here, but, there are some and I have my own opinion as well.

I thought this was endearingly interesting. Two women, both leaders, seeking to support each other in the only way they could, by interview of common experience:

Advice for Hillary Clinton from the former prime minister of Pakistan.

...Are there criticisms of Hillary you sometimes hear that you know are code for something else?

One thing people often say to me is that Bill Clinton is a very warm leader and that Hillary is much colder. But I think that women leaders tend to be a little bit withdrawn, to protect themselves from unkind comments. When a male leader is warm, it’s not misinterpreted. Whereas if a female leader is warm, it can have certain connotations. So a female leader has to be more restrained, in a sense....

First off, any interview with Michael Moore, no matter the subject will be controversial. It just will be, but, it was darn decent of him to take on this challenge and rise to the occassion to bring about an 'insider's view' to the Democratic candidates. In defense of Hillary, it's probably just one more interview she feels she shouldn't have to under take because she has been saturated with appearences and debates and interviews already and who wants to be interviewed by The King of Truth anyway?

This isn't just about Pakistan, but, it's an interesting policy issue to realize was 'opened' by The Clintons for a change in policy. The change in USA policy took place shortly after this visit in 1995. This foreign policy change by the way, is currently 'enjoyed' by George Walker Bush. The return to aid for Pakistan began while there was strong leadership that favored Democratic government processes in Pakistan, namely the influence of Benzir Bhutto as Prime Minister. Previous to the change of US Federal Policy under Clinton of Pakistan, it was cut off from aid under George H. W. Bush, setting up much of the turbulence that still exists today, which Musharraf enjoys.

Back in the day, 1990, it was 'suspected' Pakistan had nuclear capacity in it's arsenal so aid was denied them under George H. W. Bush based on the Pressler Amendment. The amendment was never challenged until The Clintons took the initiative to make in roads to Pakistan and find venues of aid that would support leadership benevolent to the USA in combatting terrorism and finding a foothold near Afghanistan to stop Osama bin Laden. That resulted in a threat, al Qaeda could not tolerate, hence the corrupt advance of Musharraf in a coup of the military in 1999.

The point is The Clintons knew full well what needed to be done to secure an initative against al Qaeda, but, it was mostly abandoned by Bush/Cheney when they were corruptly lead into office in 2000 through maneuvers by those in Florida sympathetic to Jeb, then governor.

It was during the 911 Commission hearings that we heard from those inside the White House immediately after September 11th, revealing the disasterous focus of Bush/Cheney in indicting Iraq rather than following the trail already established by The Clinton White House.

SUMMARY (click here)
U.S. aid and arms sales to Pakistan generally had been prohibited since October 1990 because the President could not make a required annual certification to Congress under Section 620E(e) of the Foreign Assistance Act, the so-called "Pressler Amendment," that Pakistan did not possess a nuclear explosive device. However, on February 12, 1996, the President signed into law the Foreign Operations Appropriations Act for FY1996, which includes provisions that significantly relax previous restrictions on U.S. aid to Pakistan.

Section 559 of P.L. 104-107, introduced by Senator Hank Brown, provides a "clarification" of restrictions on aid contained in Section 620E(e) of the FAA. The revised Section 620E narrows the scope of the aid cutoff to military assistance and transfers. It expressly allows cooperation for such purposes such as countering terrorism and narcotics trafficking, promoting airport safety and security, and international peacekeeping. It also specifically allows military-to-military contact, including international military education and training (IMET).

The Brown Amendment specifically bars the delivery of 28 F-16 aircraft ordered and partially paid for by Pakistan, but allows the one-time release of $368 million worth of other military equipment ordered by Pakistan prior to October 1, 1990. New equipment transfers still would be prohibited under current circumstances. The Senate adopted the amendment on September 21, 1995, by a margin of 55-45, following an extensive debate....

And just in case you don't believe Musharraf is a coup leader with ties to Septemer 11th while completely disregarding USA policy, let me reassure you, it was after Musharraf's rise to complete control of Pakistan that the attacks on the USA occurred;

PAKISTAN MILITARY COMPLETES SEIZURE OF ALL AUTHORITY (click here)

Published: October 15, 1999

The new military ruler of Pakistan imposed martial law shortly after midnight today, suspending the Constitution, dismissing the Parliament and dashing hopes of a quick return to civilian rule in the world's newest nuclear power.
Gen. Pervez Musharraf, the army chief who led a brutally efficient but bloodless coup on Tuesday night, also proclaimed himself chief executive of Pakistan.
His soldiers sealed off the Parliament and its legislative offices here in the capital, and they continued to hold Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and some of his closest aides under house arrest.
As dawn broke today, the Parliament, the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister's headquarters were deserted, without a soldier in sight. ...

...Ms. Bhutto, who is living in London, said on Thursday in an interview with The Financial Times that she was trying to contact the military leaders in the hope of smoothing the way for a return to Pakistan.
Though the United States had cautioned against a coup, it has worked closely with military rulers in Pakistan before. The last military dictator of Pakistan, General Mohammad Zia ul-Haq, received more than $3 billion in military aid from the United States and served as a close confidant of the Central Intelligence Agency and a cold-war ally of Washington's in the 1980's.
He died in a still-unexplained air crash in 1988, ending an 11-year reign that began when he arrested and hanged his predecessor, Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Ms. Bhutto's father....

Analysis: Clinton's Pakistan compromise (click here)

Democratic rule

President Clinton will use his time in Pakistan to lobby General Musharraf over three key issues.
No timetable yet for restoring democracy
First and foremost, he wants the general to provide a timetable for Pakistan's return to democracy.

From the outset, Washington has condemned the takeover, even if it has been reluctant to implement sanctions against General Musharraf's regime.

The White House has made clear that President Clinton is making his visit because he's a friend of the Pakistani nation, not because he approves of the military government.

Terrorism

Secondly, he wants Pakistan to take action against what he says are terrorist groups operating from bases in Pakistan. Prominent among these is the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen group, which is widely believed to have been responsible for the recent hijacking of an Indian Airlines aircraft in Afghanistan.
Osmama bin Laden: Clinton will want Pakistan to use its influence
The president will also no doubt be eager to persuade Pakistan to use its influence over Afghanistan to bring the Saudi dissident, Osama Bin Laden, to justice. He is wanted in the United States on terrorist charges relating to the bombings of American embassies in Africa in 1998.

Nuclear worries

Thirdly, the president will continue his campaign to persuade Pakistan to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). The president may find himself in a difficult position here, because the United States Senate has also refused to sign it.

...after all that... if there is a doubt how far afield the USA is in regard to foreign policy then perhaps we need to look domestically at the issues that beset us which Hillary Clinton has strong view points and experience.

She needs to set the electorate of the USA straight as to what real compassion is, real dedication and real policy is:

Hillary Clinton Gives Taxpayers a Break (click here)
Published: February 4, 1993
To the Editor:
Re "Hillary Clinton to Head Panel on Health Care" (front page, Jan. 26): I have yet to read a discussion of the extraordinary generosity of Hillary Rodham Clinton. How common is it for a well-known lawyer, used to a six-figure income, to assume a major policy role in the White House without a salary? Ms. Clinton is taking this on in addition to the considerable ceremonial functions of First Lady.
It is clearly the only way in which she can have any role in the White House; accepting a salary would be political suicide. Nonetheless, taxpayers have gotten a break. If she weren't available, we'd pay someone to do this job.

ELLEN J. REIFLER Swampscott, Mass., Jan. 27, 1993

President and Allies Hail 'Milestone' (click here)

Mr. Gingrich, the once-triumphant leader of the self-proclaimed Republican revolution who recently had to face down a Republican rebellion against him, thanked not just the President but the First Lady, Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Vice President and Tipper Gore for ''their willingness this year coming off their victory to reach out a hand and say, 'Let's work together.'

Mr. Gingrich called the pair of bills being signed proof ''that the American constitutional system works, that slowly over time we listened to the will of the American people, that we reached beyond parties.''...

....If the economy continues to perform as expected, the bills will eliminate the Federal deficit by 2002, and the Federal Government will have its first balanced budget since 1969.
The measures put in place more than $95 billion in net tax cuts over five years, including new tax credits for families with children, tax credits for higher education and reductions in the taxes on capital gains and estates.
More than $121 billion in savings are achieved over five years, mostly through limiting Medicare payments to doctors and hospitals. The measures also require that an additional $55 billion in savings be made through annual spending bills.
The bills include new spending as well, creating a $24 billion program to provide health care coverage for up to five million uninsured children. They would restore disability benefits for legal immigrants and some money for welfare programs that were eliminated last year in the new welfare law.

In some ways, the balanced budget agreement was as much a political milestone as a fiscal one, eliminating deficit reduction as the overarching issue preoccupying Washington and muting the sharp differences between the two parties that have existed on fiscal issues. It allows the great majority of Democrats who voted for it to say that they, too, support tax cuts, and gives Republicans the ability to say that they are in favor of education and health programs....

The difference between now and then, as today's Republicans remind us, is 'the war.' And which war is that exactly, the war that victimizes Americans by depriving them of a sovereign country, intact health insurance systems that actually insure health rather than profit from it, the deprivation of an educational system that produces world class leaders of all fields including science and math 'setting standards' other countries have to compete against rather than diminished SATs and low achievers or it is the war that costs exorbitant amounts of USA Treasury without actually protecting this country? That war? The illegal war? The war that would never have been fought had Al Gore found himself in the White House where he belongs? That war?

Hillary needs to set a lot of records straight, including the vast influence she carried in her diplomatic efforts as First Lady. She was not a typical First Lady.

The tone of the country is so different and adverse today, which started with the power brokering of Gingrich, followed by DeLay. Adversarial rather than 'citizenship.' The people of the USA have forgotten what it is to have peace and enjoy it. They have forgotten how to be civilized rather than hated or haters.

Hillary was a diplomat not only of the world, but of a domestic agenda that saw the USA to impressive high achievement rather than failing and devastating lows. In setting the record straight, I don't know of a better 'Truth Teller' than Michael Moore !

The weather at Scott Base, Antarctica continues to be temperate.

HOT AND COLD: Scott Base coordinator Yvonne Boesterling, domestic coordinator Sharron Revell, and carpenter Martin Wenzel on Hut Point Peninsula, near Scott Base, Antarctica, which has been experiencing an unsual heatwave.

Scott Base crew strip off in heat
Like much of the South Island, Scott Base has been basking in a summer heatwave - Antarctic style.
While temperatures in Canterbury have climbed into the 30s, the Antarctica New Zealand crew has watched the temperature rise to a sweltering 3deg.
Scott Base co-ordinator Yvonne Boesterling said that definitely felt warm compared with the norm.
"There were people outside in T-shirts. I didn't think it would get this warm in Antarctica.
"When it's zero degrees in Christchurch, it's still really cold," she said.
"You don't open the door or wind down the window in the car, but here you do."
Boesterling said the temperature was so mild yesterday when she and her colleagues travelled to Hut Point Peninsula to walk on a glacier that they had to open the window in the Hagglund, an amphibian over-snow tracked vehicle.
She was able to walk in shirt sleeves, although she carried extreme cold weather clothing.
The heat has also affected the neighbouring American base, McMurdo Station.
A dozen workers hosted a beach party with deck chairs overlooking the still-frozen sea ice.
An icebreaker is due to arrive next month to break open a channel for the cargo and fuel ships that resupply McMurdo Station and Scott Base.
The beach party proved hazardous, with some succumbing to sunburn in the ozone-depleted atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the MetService has extended its marine forecasts and warnings service to the Antarctic ice-edge to cater for the increase in tourism in the sub-Antarctic region.
Spokesman Rod Stainer said last month's sinking of the MS Explorer, after it hit an iceberg south of Argentina in the Southern Ocean, highlighted the potential dangers of growth in adventure tourism.
The new service covered the open seas of the Southern Ocean from Australia to the eastern Pacific, to the the Antarctic ice-edge, and would help vessels avoid the worst weather, he said.
"It is timely that we are extending our forecasts to cover these frigid waters.
"It also provides our meteorologists with new challenges," Stainer said.
Maritime New Zealand deputy director of safety and response services Peter Williams said the service would help ships' captains make better decisions and would assist in search and rescue work in the area.

Alaska Natives tested by plan for mine
Protecting salmon is an issue - but so is firm's largesse
Karl Vick, Washington Post
Sunday, December 30, 2007
(12-30) 04:00 PST Nondalton , Alaska -- The gold mine proposed for this stunning open country might be the largest in North America. It would involve building the biggest dam in the world at the headwaters of the world's largest sockeye salmon fishery, which it would risk obliterating.
Epic even by Alaskan standards, the planned Pebble Mine has divided a state normally enthusiastic about extracting whatever value can be found in its wide-open spaces. It is an ambivalence that has upended traditional politics, divided families and come to rest at kitchen tables like the one 75-year-old Olga Balluta sat beside one autumn afternoon, listing her favorite foods.
"Brown bear fat and black bear fat. Fish gut salad - crackly when you eat it," said Balluta, a member of the local native population that would be most directly affected by the mine.
From his chair by the sink, neighbor Rick Delkittie said, "I know my grandfather used to tell me, 'Don't ever get used to the white man's food.' "
That lesson, with its implied warning against dependence on anyone outside the land and waters that have nourished local residents for almost 10,000 years, guides the subtle, shifting and uniquely Alaskan calculation that will decide whether Pebble goes forward.
Environmentalists and commercial fishing interests have mounted a well-funded public relations campaign against the project. Mining companies are investing hundreds of millions to make it inevitable. The two sides agree only that Pebble's fate is likely to pivot on the sentiments of a few thousand local residents who would have to live beside it....

Point Thompson oil and gas fields at stake
From the Associated Press December 29, 2007
JUNEAU, ALASKA -- Exxon Mobil Corp. must get a chance to tell the state why its leases on fields holding about 9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves should not be revoked, a state Superior Court judge has ruled.

Judge Sharon Gleason, however, said in her decision Wednesday that the Alaska Department of Natural Resources acted properly in rejecting an Exxon Mobil development plan for Point Thomson, an area with more than a quarter of the known gas in all North Slope fields.
The stakes are a timely development of Point Thomson, considered vital toward building a natural gas pipeline that could potentially ship 35 trillion cubic of natural gas to heat and power homes and businesses throughout North American markets.
Gov. Sarah Palin hailed the ruling Thursday.
"This ruling represents another significant step forward in the state's efforts to develop the valuable oil and gas resources in the Point Thomson reservoir and to hold the lessees to the commitments they made in the unit agreement," Palin said in a prepared statement.
An Exxon Mobil spokeswoman could not immediately be reached for comment on Gleason's ruling....

The quantum of pre-monsoon rainfall (May 15 to 31) has decreased by 59 percent, and post monsoon rainfall (September 15 to October 10) by 39 per cent in the last 50 years, according to a research paper published in Geophysical Research Letters by K. V. Ramesh and P. Goswami from the Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulation on December 5.
While the all India monsoon (June to September) itself does not show any significant decline in quantum, there has been a 30 per cent reduction in the spatial coverage of the monsoon. These trends were arrived at through the analysis of daily rainfall data with the Indian Meteorological Department, between 1951 and 2003....

When are Americans going to admit to themselves, they've been had.

The past seven years in the USA has been nothing short of a disaster. The USA has been contained in it's ability to flex it's military might ever since it illegally invaded Iraq, killing scores of innocent people and causing human suffering to vastly more.

This administration, enforced by a corruptible Republican majority for so many years and one that still plagues the populous with outlandish obstructionist political gaming; treats war in Iraq as a necessity when it's the most displaced agenda of any American use of it's military.

Pakistan is infested with al Qaeda and provides a safe haven for those that would see more attacks on the USA to match that of September 11, 2001. What's wrong with everyone? Is there no pride in the mission of the USA, anymore? Is everyone 'on the take,' and therefore can do no wrong?

The USA is completely demoralized by it's leadership and it's enemies are now dancing on the graves of allies. George Walker Bush and Richard Cheney have insulted the sovereignty of the USA, when are going to be impeached?

I always thought China could be a great friend to the USA, but, I never bargained for China to own the USA.

December 9, 2005

Japan held $687.3 billion in U.S. government securities in September, about a third of the $2.07 trillion in international holdings and 17 percent of all marketable U.S. debt. China was the second-biggest investor at $252.2 billion, or 12 percent of the overseas total. In all, international investors owned about 51 percent of the U.S.'s outstanding marketable debt in September.

Yep. Someone mention sovereignty? Oh, go on, they are hard working and cheap, what could be a sovereignty issue there?

When there is a devalued dollar, a shrinking job market, loss of housing and an economy that is suitable to bargain basements shoppping Europeans, what would you call it?

Dollar Extends Annual Loss Versus Euro, Yen on Fed Rate Cuts

When the Euro was first issued, it was considered a joke. The countries involved couldn't decide on a Consitution and the value of the money wasn't even a one to one ratio. The Euro was below the value of the USA Dollar. Now, after years of systematic abuse of the USA treasury, with exorbitant budgets and annually raised debt ceilings, the USA dollar isn't just a bargain, it's a national shame. The USA doesn't have assets that matter anymore, only a populous of consumers that are impoverished enough for military recruitment.

When money isn't worth anything, it tells one plenty about the value of the nation.

...For international shoppers, America is where the Christmas shopping bargains are, in large part because of the no-longer-so-almighty dollar.
Several overseas airlines and charter-flight operators have been specifically promoting New York City as a Christmas shopping Mecca, luring hordes of bargain hunters, especially from Britain, where tourism to the United States has otherwise been lagging for years.
“We’ve had promotions running encouraging people to go to New York to shop because of the favorable exchange rate, and demand has been huge,” said Lawrence Hunt, the chief executive officer of Silverjet, a British discount all-business-class airline. Silverjet even hired “shopping concierges” to send e-mail messages to passengers listing tips about discounts and deals in New York....

I never thought Phyllis Schafly would matter to me, but, I'll be darn. Melt away borders and what's left?

...Pickard is convinced that George W. Bush is "vigorously pushing" the idea of a "North American community." Pickard concluded that the schedule calls for beginning with a customs union, then a common market, then a monetary and economic union, and finally the adoption of a single currency (already baptized as the "amero" by Robert Pastor).

The USA is the largest tailpipe emitter of CO2 in the world. In that it risks it's sovereign right to free enterprise at the whim of oil suppliers.

...16,000 Smart Cars are planned for the entire US market in 2008, demand will greatly exceed supply for this fuel saving and Euro-stylish, futurist auto. "With gasoline prices exceeding $4.00 a gallon the horizon, the timing for the USA launch of Smart Car couldn't be better timed in history, the launch of Smart-Car-USA.com as a forum for buyers and eco-concerned market players also couldn't be better timed. The Green movement has finally arrived in the USA, just in time for the 2008 Presidential elections, candidates will be pictured driving SmartCars, count on it, and they will be chatting on our website -Smart-Car-USA.com."...

The USA has no sovereign energy policy. Cheney's Energy Policy is all based in other countries. The USA needs to move to alternatives. NOW !!!

...Investments in Saudi Arabia’s oil sector have sharply fluctuated over the past four decades as the country’s production has remained sharply volatile because of its role as a residual producer, mainly during the 1980s and 1990s. From only 2.6 million barrels per day in 1967, Saudi Arabia’s oil output shot up to 9.9 million bpd in 1980 before it dived to 3.17 million bpd in 1985. It then rose and fell again in the following years before it recovered to an average nine million bpd in 2007....

Conservative values don't provide a sustainable health insurance for Americans. People are at risk for long term problems.

The long term effects to the cost of American Health Insurance has yet to be realized as more and more Americans fall through the crack of excellant health care. Without vital screenings, Americans will develope disease with higher costs and higher risk of death. The face of American health insurance is changing but not necessarily for the better. In Massachusetts, those that are uninsured will be required to pay penalities for that status. That is not a viable health care policy but simply a punitive option for what a family may or may not be able to afford.

We need a single payer system that spreads the cost of insurance across the largest health care pool available. That pool is the American society. Childhood obesity will result in huge health issues and diminished capacity for any work force in the future. Without a national strategy to limit the impacts of poor choices while facilitating a return to simply 'gym classes' nationally, the future of our children is growing more and more dim.

The sale of hospitals is simply a 'symptom' of a society without sufficient infrastructure to support it's health needs.

Hospital sale just tip of iceberg
...The Exempla sale is still being challenged in court by people concerned about diminished health-care options, so Suthers' is not the last word. Questions about such deals are obvious. For instance: Why should a religious group parcel out only those health-care services with which it feels comfortable?...

SCHIP Crucial For Many SD Families (click here)
It took three tries, but the president signed a bill Saturday funding State Children's Health Insurance Programs for the next year and a half. And while this version is shorter than two other bills that were recently vetoed by Bush, people who use the SCHIP program in KELOLAND say they are relieved to see it continue for now. Michelle Reichert is a single mother. Her son Kamar is almost ready for his 18-month checkup which would involve a full physical and six shots. And neither appear to be worried about it today. "We've been healthy this year, it's just routine stuff that I know I wouldn't be able to pay for if I didn't have it," Reichert says.Reichert has two other children and works full time, and she relies on the State Children's Health Insurance Program to ensure her kid's checkups are covered....

Without a healthy society, there is no sovereignty that matters.
