Training has been raised as a problem with aggressive police.

St. Paul — The Minnesota police officer (click here) who fatally shot an African-American man during a traffic stop last week had recently undergone specialized training that critics say can lead officers to believe they are under constant threat of being harmed and can intensify encounters with civilians.

The officer, Jeronimo Yanez, of the Police Department in St. Anthony, Minn., shot and killed Philando Castile after a traffic stop in nearby Falcon Heights, Minn., on July 6. The shooting is being investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The Justice Department has said it is monitoring the case.

Policing tactics have been under heightened scrutiny since the fatal police shooting in Ferguson, Mo., of Michael Brown, an unarmed African-American teenager, in August 2014. The police officer in that encounter was not indicted but the department was sharply criticized for its tactics in a report by the Justice Department....

The training is no secret. This is an article from 2007 listing police departments that had trained with "Blackwater." Nearly ten years later the deaths of innocent Black Americans is evident to the underlying training and FEARS.

Well Blackwater (click here) has apparently been training police in American cities and towns for some time now. I don't know if this is old news or not I've been away from the internet for over a week due to the death of my Mother. I apologize if this topic has already been covered in other diaries.
I find it horrifying that these religious right-wing mercenaries are crusading in Muslim lands but I'm mad as hell that they are also training US Law Enforcement....

Pre-programmed police? Really?

...Since then, many police departments across the country, with encouragement from the Justice Department, have opted for what they refer to as a guardian mentality, in which de-escalation of potentially violent situations and similar techniques are emphasized.

Some departments, however, believe that a more traditional and aggressive so-called warrior approach is necessary....

OMG! Police need to be willing to use their guns when needed, but, pre-programmed? What is this Robo-Cop?

Police are suppose to be thinking people, not a money machine or warrior or assuming every person is a potential ENEMY.

OMG!

OMG!

OMG!

These people walk among Americans. Like, what?

...According to a Badge of Life study (click here) there were 51 deaths by suicide of law enforcement officers in the last six months of 2015.  That would indicate that approximately 102 law enforcement suicides occurred last year. The good news is that deaths by suicide decreased for law enforcement officers in 2015 compared to the last study in 2012 by 19%.  While these represent a good trend; it is simply not good enough....

This is PTSD!

Americans need police officers and not "Soldier Cops."

There needs to be a real training program including more than 90 days of training. There needs to be a period of "on the job training period" that brings an understanding of the people being policed and end any artificial fears.

The police and the people need SPACE between them right now and ending the policing of minor violations is the best way to achieve a greater safety zone.

If possible organizations such as the NAACP should develop a SENSITIVE TRAINING program for police throughout the country, no different than soldier training for police. The police need to be returned to THINKING rather than REACTING. I know the Black Community in the USA have magnificent professionals among them. Commission a program to train police to be sensitive to Black Citizens in their Communities. This program should also be customized for a community and their particular cultural differences, too.

The police unions should be offered these training programs to remove the very heinous aggression the police unions advocate.
