There are three of the five permanent members of the United Nation's Security Council in NATO.

Nuclear weapons (click here) are a core component of NATO’s overall capabilities for deterrence and defence alongside conventional and missile defence forces.... 

NATO is not about nuclear readiness for Europe, it is about the security of western civilization that is the focus.

NATO is mostly about conventional weapons and the size of any continental military force. The USA's nukes are needed in NATO, but, their conventional forces are important.
