Why would anyone expect Republicans to worry about freedom of speech for a Shi'ite Cleric?

I have stated this at least twice before on this blog.

30 March 2004

Thousands of followers of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr (click here) took to the streets of Baghdad on Sunday to demonstrate against the US shutdown of Al Hawza, a weekly journal published under Sadr’s editorial influence. A tense standoff ensued outside the newspaper’s offices between nervous American troops and crowds of angry Iraqis chanting “Where is democracy now?”
Earlier in the day, US troops sealed Al Hawzas doors with chains, acting on the direct orders of Paul Bremer, the head of the US-controlled Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA). The publication has been banned for 60 days. If it is published in defiance of the US diktat, the editors and employees could face up to one years’ imprisonment and a fine of $US1000....

OMG, freedom of speech is conditional to whether or not the newspaper agrees with "W."

Americans have absolutely no right to exercise censorship in a country American leadership has stated is liberated from a dictator assigned to Iraq by the USA.

There is only one thing that matters to the USA. Whether or not it is a convenient truth. If it is an inconvenient truth, make no mistake, we will destroy a beloved mosque to prove the point.

Go, figure, huh? It is really hard to believe for all the fighting conducted against a Christian occupier when it came to Daesh, they ran the other way. I haven't seen it for myself so I have to accept it as real. But, the USA military not only attempted to destroy the Imam Ali Mosque, it was continually trying to assassinate the only religious lineage of the al Sadr line. Then people don't understand why Iran is basically an enemy. Right.

It was amazing and I suppose if one was not on the New York Times commentator community the FACTS would be lost to disinterest in American history. But, what was occurring among the Shi'ite community in Iraq was pure terror and it wasn't because of Sunnis.

First, Muqtada al Sadr opens a newspaper to demand the Christian occupiers and the "Evil" itself out of the country. Don't know why they would feel that way, maybe because every member of the Al Sadr family was wiped out (I think it was three Ayatollahs) in a single act of violence by Saddam's henchmen.

And then in 2002, Saddam was disgusted with the No Fly Zones so he decided to put a dam into the river supplying the wetlands where the Shia community would fish for their food. In doing so, the Shia rebelled and 50 thousand were killed.

Then of all things, the only surviving member of the al Sadr family opens a newspaper (Freedom of speech and the press of which was a complete fantasy under Saddam) to demand the expulsion of the occupying Americans. I would want the same thing. There was no reason for any Shi'ite to trust the USA. NO REASON, but, the Shia are the problem. Inconvenient truth raises it's ugly head again!

So Bremer took OCCUPATION of the newspaper building and ended it's printing. I guess he couldn't read the criticism in Arabic. What a shame. Bremer was the absolute newly assigned Saddam with absolute power and he could not even read the words in the Sadr publication, but, somehow (maybe by divine intervention) he knew Sadr was laughing at him.

AND THAT WASN'T THE END OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tony Blair and his generals cooked up a scheme to remove the Grand Ayatollah al Sistani to Great Britain for cardiac catherization and stent placement. At the time the Grand Ayatollah was about 72 years old and someone convinced him he was having chest pain or needed to have HIS ANNUALS including a procedural intervention that would take him away from the Shia of his flock just long enough.....

....to attack the Imam Ali Mosque and FINALLY assassinate Muqtada al Sadr. The Americans got as close to killing him and his militia than they ever did or have since. But, some screaming idiot on the New York Times message boards actually thought PEACE and cooperation with a RARE Shia Cleric was important. She repeatedly stated the mosque and Cleric al Sadr was in danger.

Suddenly, the Grand Ayatollah fresh off his procedural stretch WHILE IN GREAT BRITAIN ordered his flock to walk the path of a pilgrimage in Najaf and the Imam Ali Mosque. It was amazing to witness. All the people, except children, walked according to the Grand Ayatollah's instructions and stopped the American tanks dead in their tracks.

Months later, it would prove to be the path to peace when Cleric al Sadr approved of members of his flock running for office to join the Iraq Central Government.

Cleric Al Sadr would later travel to Iran to finish his education which he could not do under Saddam. He leads the Shia yet today.

So, when I hear so called experts state there is no rational reason for Iran to be the enemy of the USA, I simply laugh at the pandering to power, hence money, and realize THE TRUTH would be lost except for a blog that would hail the actions of incredible holy men in Iraq, inconvenient or not.

I wish the children of Cleric al Sadr long lives and great peace. Someday, it will be theirs.
