Impeachment does not have the same status as treason. Treason is defined by the Article III, Section 3 of the USA Constitution.

Treason is a crime and requires at least two witnesses to the event. It requires no assembly of Congress. Treason is prosecuted in front of a judge and jury no different than any other crime.

Witnesses do not have to be Americans, nor are Americans excused as witnesses.
