Faces only a mother could love. Or a zoo.

Two tawny frogmouth chicks (click here) abandoned by their parents hatched earlier this July and are making great progress, the zoo announced Friday.

The chicks are at Chicago's Brookfield Zoo sponsored by the Chicago Zoological Society.

With their nocturnal habit and owl-like appearance, Tawny Frogmouths are often confused with owls, but are actually more closely related to the nightjars. Their feet are weak however, and lack the curved talons of owls.
