VICTORIANS have been warned to prepare for another dose of severe weather, with State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers on alert tonight.Strong wind warnings for Port Phillip Bay and southern parts of the state were issued by the Bureau of Meteorology this afternoon.
SES spokesman Peter Cocks said homeowners should learn from last week's storms, which caused damage across the state, and take preventive measures before more storms hit.
"The prediction of more strong winds today certainly has SES volunteers on edge as wet ground and strong winds is a dangerous combination," Mr Cocks said.
"It is not too late to do some preventative work around your house to reduce your chances of being affected by the weather.
"Even if severe weather doesn't eventuate today, we know it will some time in the future, so make sure you take some simple precautions now."
He said the SES recommended checking trees for loose or damaged branches and securing loose items like plastic furniture.
People should keep clear of heavily treed areas such as parkland and be cautious when towing caravans and high loads, he said.
Mr Cocks said people should not get on their roof during severe weather or park under trees and should be aware of the chance of debris being blown across roadways and keep a longer safe driving distance than usual.
SES volunteers responded to more than 6500 calls for help the organisation received from last week's record breaking storms.
