The Aurora killer didn't kill himself. He set up an insanity defense before he carried out the carnage.
Control, the gunman needs control to the point where he inflicts his own death. He already made up his mind he was going to die before he killed.
What kind of people actually want these weapons? Control, right? Extreme control. I asked myself, if I decided I needed an assault weapon to control my environment from some extreme reason, would I have already accepted I am a dead person before it all happens. The answer is yes. I would have to accept the fact there is nothing I can do to control my outcome, except, to arm myself against anyone else.
What kind of thinking is that outside of 'game fantasy?' That is darn desperate stuff in a society that can't control outcomes for it's citizens. Where does that happen, realistically, where does that kind of reality in the USA exist? Crime neighborhoods where people kill rather than understand, in places where law enforcement does not exist.
Now. Should the USA tolerate that level of self-defense anywhere in the country?
If we should not tolerate that level of crime and violence in our country, then what are these weapons doing on the street?

SANTA MONICA, Calif.—A man with a semi-automatic rifle (click here) killed four people and wounded five others Friday as he carried out a deadly rampage across several blocks of a normally idyllic beachfront city. Police shot him dead in the Santa Monica College Library.
The violence began when the gunman, acting alone despite early reports of a possible second shooter, opened fire on a house where two bodies were found, police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks said.
Two officials said the killings began as a domestic violence incident and the victims in the home were the gunman's father and brother. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the case.
Only about 10 minutes passed between the first reports of trouble and the gunman's death, but it led to hours of fear and confusion in the balmy coastal city....

There is no such thing as cyber security and there never will be.
There are finite encryption codes and when one considers how fast computers work it is odd to consider there is any security at all.
The only way there is cyber security is for a bank of computers or one computer to be used offline. As long as there are 'personnel' made responsible for security there will always be those that don't believe it is important.
The 'elements' that play into some strange 'idea' of cyber security are too many to guarantee any isolation from the rest of the world.
So, today The Guardian is the latest hero, while the man that tried to end wars is on trial. This entire idea of having a government records online and it will be impenetrable is about as stupid as it comes.

...Manning said that he passed (click here) on information that both "upset" or "disturbed" him but reiterated that he did not give anything he thought would harm the United States if it were made public.
"I believed if the public was aware of the data, it would start a public debate of the wars," he told the court.
Adrian Lamo, a former hacker turned in Manning, when he learned about the leaking of record. In the statement to the court, Manning said he initially contacted newspapers The Washington Postand The New York Times to provide information. When he was unable to speak to anyone directly, he then gave the material to Wikileaks.
While some deemed Manning as a traitor, even a threat to U.S. national security, he is also seen as a hero, many of whom rallied for him outside Fort Meade on Monday.
"People came from great distances to stand with a true American hero. From Bradley's demeanor in court, it's clear he takes strength from the outpouring of support," Jeff Paterson, director of the Bradly Manning Support Network said.
Some see him as necessary whistle-blower to confront the U.S. military's apparatus, including Daniel Ellsberg, who in 1971 leaked what became known as the Pentagon Papers to The New York Times. Those papers documented the government's systematic misleading of the public about American involvement in the Vietnam War....
There have been government leaks since there have been governments, cyber or otherwise. To think there is some kind of absolute security that will protect citizens from any false claims by their government is about as ridiculous as it comes.
In the early weeks after September 11th a Pakistani man died in a prison in New Jersey because of medical neglect. The government literally rounded up people and put them in cells. Did anyone care? Hell, no. Just one of those things, he was in the "W"rong place at the wrong time. The reason this level of stupidity exists, no different than Japanese internment camps, is because there is the 'mind think' that the government has to have control over everything in order to have a nation. Tell that to Iraq.
If a person is too scared to venture on the internet for fear of 'being caught,' consider yourself caught before you do it.
If Google, Facebook and others were cooperative with the USA government to obtain data, why did they? What was their incentive to cooperate. The fact of the matter is the data on social media is always available, it is simply easier to have it provided in lump sums in a way the government subscribes to the form of the information. Personal e-mail will never be secure. If one writes to another than the thoughts are out there. Everyone needs to decide for themselves how they want their thoughts transferred and if cyber leaks are the most disturbing sense of that reality, then don't do it. Just that simple.

Okay, let's just say the meta data collected is as startling as everyone wants to believe.
Upon hearing (click here) that the FBI sought and received the phone data from millions of Verizon customers using Section 215 of the USA Patriot Act, Republican Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner expressed dismay....
Let's just go there.
The worst has happened, we have another "W" in the White House.
What are you going to do about China? And would it not be better to have a USA program that is doing the work that China would be doing, but, perhaps bumping up the data in reporting suspected terrorism in the USA.
What are you going to do with that? China just collected data without Verizon knowing it and has reported to the USA there are going to be terror attacks within the USA and they can prove it. Now what are you going to do?
Would it not be better to have a USA program that looks at all this meta data to KNOW what is transpiring in the country and can no immediately if another nation is trying to cause problems within the USA? Or would it better to allow China to know more than our own government does.
Don't avoid the question. What are you going to do about it?
China has just called Rep. Sensenbrenner with information about terror attacks. What happens next? The USA doesn't have a program to know what activity China is talking about, so does Sensenbrenner issue demands for the FBI to make arrests immediately? Or does Sensenbrenner submit the information to the FBI stating, what can you tell me about this according to our information?
Answer those questions and then you'll find out what national security is all about.
At any point in time does it get to be okay to be a human being in the USA?
There are reports as many as six dead. Gee, they almost made to the end of the semester, too.
It was an assault weapon. Has the NRA started the counter campaign to make sure this can happen again?

For those that cannot figure out what life is exactly, it is not a woman. It is being prepared to be a man for a woman. The right woman. The woman prepared for a man. That involves more than an erection and orgasm.
Just thought I'd clear that up so there was no doubt. I hate doubt. Without a doubt, I hate doubt.
It has been the practice of the Right Wing to allow experience in the USA military to an education for men that will take them through life. The military provides structure and an understanding of ones own abilities to handle life. There are still Congresspersons, mostly Congressmen, that still believe experience with the USA military is all a man needs to get his head screwed on straight. You know, those folks in poverty just are a rough bunch.
Amazingly, there are still people today that absolutely believe time in the military should be required for every American child to grow into adulthood. Isn't that strange. For a person to actually believe that picking up a military weapon and realizing life can be drained from you if you don't defend yourself. I find that very strange thinking. I would think that a civilized nation could move past the reality of the past to come to terms with how valuable a Pre-K education prepares the youngest of American minds for the future.
To actually have a child, no matter where they are in the socio-economic spectrum to think they are so valuable and delightful they can actually have a wonderful life right here in the USA where financial security is a reality and the promise of an enjoyable life belongs to every American.
See, I thought that is what being an American was all about. It meant every opportunity to have a dream of success no matter where a person came from, where they grew up, where they decided to work and move forward to a life of conscience and good works. How stupid of me to believe the aspirations of a President for his nation doesn't really matter. How completely stupid to believe that raising every person in the USA to the status of important and actually taking on the values of decency matters. How strange a person I am to believe that Earth is an important planet to live on and value. Shame on me.
Where was the Press while this was occurring? At least Putin has taken this species of Big Cat under his wing and within his mantle. I am grateful to him.
The Press is pathetic. If it doesn't produce wealth for Wall Street, it doesn't matter. And they want to be taken seriously when they expose national security issues for political purposes of Wall Street? I don't think so.
The distrust of the Press is due to a decade long record now. This mistrust is earned. Well earned. What is more than surprising to me that after exposing a CIA agent for political purposes and endangered millions of people and athletes, they are still printing their garbage. That is what the First Amendment does in the USA. It allows bozos to actually print things.
But, when it comes to tigers, kindly get it right. There are dearly few of them and President Putin were not hunting them, he was tagging them.

In the now-defunct Starz series Boss, there's a reporter character named "Sam Miller" played by actor Troy Garity who complains about lazy reporters who just blindly eat whatever storylines are fed to them by people in power. He called those sorts of stories Chumpbait. If the story is too easy, if you're doing a piece on a sensitive topic and factoids are not only reaching you freely, but publishing them is somehow not meeting much opposition from people up on high, then you're probably eating Chumpbait.
There's an obvious Chumpbait angle in the Bradley Manning story, and most of the mainstream press reports went with it. You can usually tell if you're running a Chumpbait piece if you find yourself writing the same article as 10,000 other hacks....
The thing is this about surveillance. It has to be backed up with solid evidence. In other words, when the GOVERNMENT finds something that appears to be suspicious they have to then seek solid evidence to back up an arrest or a charge in a court of law.
I don't like any of this disaster of something the Press insists is privacy rights. But, I tell you what, if Governors can sign law that demands vaginal probes for abortions, this ain't nothing.
If Greenhouse Gases are considered "just air" then ask me what I care about what the Press find important.
This mess the Press is touting as the headlines of the day has gone on for over two days now. Two days on a government program designed by Bush before Rice takes office. A program that for a decade how has not resulted in internment camps of American citizens.
Each day the tone of the Press was tweaked up. The second day was suppose to make the public more angry, more frustrated with their own government. THAT is a plan against the American people. It is the same mess that lead the USA into war in Iraq in 2003. This sounds like FOX. It sounds like Murdoch. It sounds like the Wall Street Journal.
Now, you all want to start over with this and actually put something out there that matters? Because this doesn't matter. It is a planned assault against 'the nerve' of the American people and the Press is continuing to dig itself in deeper and deeper.
We ain't going to war in Syria, Mr. McCain. Ain't gonna do it, honey.

For the first time, (click here) an elephant at the Oregon Zoo has developed tuberculosis.
Rama, a 30-year-old Asian elephant who was born at the zoo, shows no symptoms but as soon as the test result came in Friday, staff put him in quarantine.
He's posed no threat to visitors, they said, but the zoo has suspended behind-the-scene tours of the elephant area.
Zoo staff expect the middle-age pachyderm to make a full recovery.
"We're confident Rama is going to be fine," said Kim Smith, zoo director. "It's a very treatable disease. We've caught it early with Rama. We feel very good about this."...
Can you subpoena these things for a divorce proceedings?
