These statistics of unwanted pregnancies are from the Guttmacher Institute.

The Guttmacher Institute (click here) is an international organization concerned with the health of women. Their statistics are real women with real problems in their lives that prevent her from giving birth. We well know abortion is a socio-economic problem.

A number of women (click here) —often those who are poor or otherwise disadvantaged—have been prosecuted in the United States for self-inducing abortion under a variety of state statutes, ranging from fetal homicide to failure to report an abortion to the coroner. Recently, the issue has gained greater attention because of several well-publicized cases in which women were prosecuted and imprisoned for self-inducing an abortion or being suspected of doing so.

WHO HAS ABORTIONS? (click here)

• Eighteen percent (18%) of U.S. women obtaining abortions are teenagers; those aged 15–17 obtain 6% of all abortions, 18–19-year-olds obtain 11%, and teens younger than 15 obtain 0.4%.

Women in their 20s account for more than half (50%) of all abortions: Women aged 20–24 obtain 33% of all abortions, and women aged 25–29 obtain 24%.

• Non-Hispanic white women account for 36% of abortions, non-Hispanic black women for 30%, Hispanic women for 25% and women of other races for 9%.

The statistics here are in percentages, but, it would be more interesting if it were "per thousand women." It would reveal more of the impoverishment of women. Hispanic women are stated to be 25 percent of those seeking an abortion along with Caucasian women for 36 percent of women. When realizing Hispanic women are minorities, the numbers per thousand women really go up. 25 percent of minority populations per 1000 illustrates the socioeconomic condition of the women involved and as a minority the lack of control over their circumstances, especially the Undocumented.

• Thirty-seven percent of women obtaining abortions identify as Protestant and 28% identify as Catholic

• Women who have never married and are not cohabiting account for 45% of all abortions.

• About 61% of abortions are obtained by women who have one or more children.

• Forty-two percent of women obtaining abortions have incomes below 100% of the federal poverty level ($10,830 for a single woman with no children).

• Twenty-seven percent of women obtaining abortions have incomes between 100–199% of the federal poverty level.

• The reasons women give for having an abortion underscore their understanding of the responsibilities of parenthood and family life. Three-fourths of women cite concern for or responsibility to other individuals; three-fourths say they cannot afford a child; three-fourths say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or the ability to care for dependents; and half say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner.

The majority of these women are not ready to be parents. It is just that simple. They don't want the pregnancy for legitimate reasons. The USA cannot proudly proclaim it is an a capitalist economy and then expect the dynamics of poverty and the cost of raising a child to simply go away. It is the same thing with couples postponing marriage and a family. It is based in economic decisions. Capitalism has not served the people of the USA well.

Fifty-one percent of women who have abortions had used a contraceptive method in the month they got pregnant, most commonly condoms (27%) or a hormonal method (17%)

I have stated over and over the primary women seeking abortions are in their early weeks of pregnancy. Other abortions are under a medical doctor's direction to do so.

In 2011, unmarried women accounted for 85.5% of all abortions (CDC).

Among women who obtained abortions in 2011, 39.9% had no prior live births; 46.1% had one or two prior live births, and 13.9% had three or more prior live births (CDC)

The abortion rate of women with Medicaid coverage is three times as high as that of other women (NAF).

89-92% of all abortions happen during the first trimester, prior to the 13th week of gestation (AGI/CDC).

In 2011, 7.3% of all abortions occurred between 14-20 weeks' gestation; 1.4% occurred ≥21 weeks' gestation (CDC).

Stop hurting women and provide for better pay and benefits. Life is difficult enough for these women and their government victimizes them. The government victimizes them and does not provide for any understanding of the support for their children.
