Kathy Hoffman, the state superintendent of public instruciton is correct. The law needs to be repealed.

This Arizona law is a reflection of the past and not today's society or the future for the aggrieved children.

There may be some health instructors that feel insufficiently prepared to talk about safe sex. That can easily be resolved by inviting a professional speaker to the classrooms when it comes to the LGBTQI community.

This law is far too victimizing. I have been in classrooms of young children all the way to young adults as a teacher. The students are very, very accepting of diversity. I was impressed with the love a fourth grade classroom had for a student in sexual identity transition.

The boy looked like a boy, but, was open about his transition from being a girl. The reason the class was aware of this transition which probably didn't have sex reassignment surgery at that age; was because the school records reflected his female identity. Even his masculine name hadn't been changed on the school records yet. When attendance was taken it was still the female name that was on the records. Believe me, there was nothing female about his outward appearance or mannerisms. I believe documents are not changed until sex reassignment is achieved.

I think the parents of this boy were very smart in encouraging everyone touching this boy's life to see her as him. He thrived. He had no desire to be identified as a girl.

So given the times we are in and wide acceptance of gender issues are part of everyday life, this law needs to be removed from the enforcement statues in Arizona. It is like having a stop sign for horse drawn carriages. It is has no place in everyday life.

Two gay-rights organizations (click here) are suing Arizona over its so-called "No Promo Homo" law, which bans public district and charter school HIV/AIDS instruction that "promotes a homosexual lifestyle."

The National Center for Lesbian Rights and Lambda Legal filed the lawsuit Thursday in federal court on behalf of Equality Arizona, a nonprofit that advocates for LGBT residents. An unnamed student is also named as a plaintiff in the lawsuit.

Arizona's law, enacted in 1991, bars K-12 public-school sexual-education instruction that:

- "Promotes a homosexual lifestyle."
- "Portrays homosexuality as a positive alternative lifestyle."
- "Suggests that some methods of sex are safe methods of homosexual sex."...
