...“In 1976, I was a young reporter [for WBZ] standing in line in Manchester, N.H., waiting for my Secret Service credentials,’’ said Dan Rea, a veteran Boston journalist and WBZ News radio host. “It was a long line, and all the young reporters were moaning about standing there. We turned a corner and saw the head of the line, and I remember seeing that about five or six people in front of us was Walter Cronkite.
“We were just the juniors and we were all complaining, and there was Walter standing there, patient, waiting for his credentials like the rest of us,’’ he said. “It was when he was at the height of his game. I’ll never forget that.’’...
