This is some of the Antarctic air seen moving off the Ice Continent a day or so ago.

The country hasn't yet been hit by the larger vortex winds. Perhaps it won't, but, only the air pushing off Antarctica. The view above shows the divergence of air and water over north Australia. Perhaps Australia will continue to protect New Zealand. It's just that last year that was a huge frigid air mass that moved over Australia as well. I would air on the side of extreme caution.

Queenstown is all but cut off from the rest of the country today after snow and ice left most roads impassable and the situation looks set to get worse as a second storm is now moving onto the country.
Transit Otago and Southland regional manager Murray Clarke said Lindis Pass and the Haast Pass are both closed and only one road to Invercargill is open at the Kingston end of town....
