See, the roofs in New England, USA in places like Vermont are swept with brooms.

December 30, 2005.

Lesce, Slovenia.

The ANGLE of these roofs are not conducive to snow SLIDING off them. In New England, USA, with states like Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Even New York State. It is not unusal to have very steep roofs with attics for storage or living space. People do get on the roofs and sweep them during heavy snow events as well. It's dangerous but they use care in wearing climbing harness type techniques when taking care of their homes.

These roofs seem very sturdy but as the 'expanse' of the angle widens the weaker the center of the span is for weight of construction material. Then add to that solid percipitation and the roof just isn't strong enough. It's all physics and town planners need to look at the construction of their town's buildings to determine if extreme weather won't cause a deficit in the stability of those buildings.

Don't be impulsive about any of these obversations regarding the USA and implement strategies. The North American continent is a different continent with different dynamics. Countries need to taylor these concerns to their citizens.
