Flint's educator honored.

Now retired as an emeritus elementary principal, Dr. Simmons served the Flint Community Schools for more than 45 years, dating back to when he first taught as a classroom teacher in 1962. Moving into educational administration six years later, he continued to gain great strides in his profession, and was recognized as the first African American elementary school principal in Flint Community Schools in 1970, as well as the first African American elementary assistant principal in Flint Community Schools between 1968 and 1970.
