The Matterhorn is crumbling from the Climate Crisis. Ice melt running into crevices is destroying it.

The very start of the route from near the hut. The debris from the recent rockfall (July 2003) can be seen as the smear of gray on the snow to the left.

...Researchers from the University of Zurich, (click here) who have been studying the mountain closely since 2007, say melting water is permeating exposed cracks and crevices on the 4,478m (14,690ft) mountain, which straddles the Swiss-Italian boarder. Subsequent cycles of freezing and thawing in these gaps are creating subtle movements under the rock surface, causing ever-widening fissures with the result that lumps of rock are falling off, the researchers say.
Their investigation, which relies on sophisticated monitoring devices situated on 17 key parts of the mountain, was prompted by a huge rock fall from the Hörnligrat part of the mountain in July 2003, when more than 50 climbers had to be airlifted off the mountain in the one of the big- gest rescue operations ever mounted in the Alps.
The disintegration of the Matterhorn, which the researchers warn is symbolic of the problems affecting the rest of the Alps, appears to have continued since, the Swiss research team's report in the Journal of Geophysical Research.
"There has been a big increase in the number of rock falls in the past decade that can't be explained simply by the fact that we're looking out for them more now," the lead researcher, Stephan Gruber, told The Independent.
His team's discovery of the key role that icy crevices play in the Matterhorn's decay suggests that global warming's deleterious effect on mountain ranges is greater than previously thought....

Kinematics of steep bedrock permafrost (click title to entry - thank you)

The mechanisms that control climate-dependent rockfall from permafrost mountain slopes are currently poorly understood. In this study, we present the results of an extensive rock slope monitoring campaign at the Matterhorn (Switzerland) with a wireless sensor network. A negative dependency of cleft expansion relative to temperature was observed at all clefts for the dominant part of the year....

Does anyone remember the day when there were NOT 'tornado outbreaks?'

Wednesday, April 4, 2012           Forney, Texas
That is the characteristic of tornado season. To begin, there really hasn't been an end to tornado season from 2011. It slowed down, but, it never really stopped. The geographical occurences of the touchdowns are very random besides.

Tornado season is only just beginning, (click title to entry - thank you) but already this year has seen dozens of destructive twisters from Illinois to Texas, where up to 18 might have touched town on Tuesday alone in the Dallas-Fort Worth area....

Also noted near the tropics and the West Pacific are accumulations of tropical distrubances. There was a minor distrubance near the Yucatan today, but, it has dissipated into the tail of the vortex north of Prince Edward Island, Canada.

The tropical Atlantic Ocean hurricane season usually is normally described as June 1st through November 1st.

In 2010 and 2011 the season started in late June, but, the years 2007 thought 2009 the season started in late May.  With the troposphere this hot, it can start early, however, as seen with Irene last year there has to be a huge accumulation of water vapor to ignite the first one. But, the tropical activity in the area of the Yucatan both in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific is providing a question about a calmer season until August.

If the birds leave, it is a sure sign humans should not stand and watch.

The Republican Primaries are a tribute to Citizens United.

Romney won in every primary where televisions were in dense numbers and could overshadow the message of all the others.

...Six in 10 Wisconsin voters (click title to entry - thank you) looking for a "true conservative" backed Santorum -- more than four times the number who backed Romney....

In Wisconsin, Santorum won in rural areas. Romney bought his nomination. It is completely evident money talks, especially, in this case.

No doubt Jerry Smith is a strict constructionist.

It is about ideology.

He loves Citizens United.

He believes life in the court or anywhere else in the world is simple and straight forward and predictable.

The issue of competence comes to mind. How could the Robert's Court call corporations people and have freedom of speech.

No one has to look very far to realize the Bush impact on the USA court system has been adverse.

It is a conversation the nation should have.

Former Justice O'Connor looked at THE LIVES OF PEOPLE when she made her decisions. They were decisions based in an understanding of legislation in relation to the people it effected. Judges like Smith don't see the world as a 'whole' he treats words as autocratic and predetermined. Smith has gone too far and he needs to take the same seat Alito did. He disappeared at the State of the Union address and it was a wise decision.

Jerry Smith got upset. Isn't that cute?

Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals Judges (from top, left):

An activisit judge, no doubt. Jerry must be confused. He must have sentenced at least one person to death in his career, why not tens of thousands at the hands of health insurance companies. Jerry Smith needs to have a rush of conscience BEFORE he rules and not after!

..."I want to be sure (click title to entry - thank you) that you are telling us that the Attorney General and the Department of Justice do recognize the authority of the federal courts through unelected judges to strike acts of Congress or portions thereof in appropriate cases," Smith said....

It looks like Jerry needs a refresher on his job description.

Hey, Jerry, BRING IT ON !!!!!!!!!!

Paul Ryan stated he thought the Presidency was better than this. Why is it I think Romney is a little out of touch?

When Mitt Romney states the President is rewarded by working with a small group of people who think he is great, it is he whom has to be the most egotistical person on Earth
.
Really?
I guess that community is comprised of many around the world. I could live with that community just fine.
...The bestowal of one of the world's top accolades on Obama, who has yet to score a major foreign policy success after nearly nine months in office, was greeted with gasps from the audience at the announcement ceremony in Oslo.

Describing himself as surprised and deeply humbled, Obama said he would accept the award as a "call to action" to confront the global challenges of the 21st century.

"I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments but rather an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations," he said in the White House Rose Garden.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee praised Obama for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," citing his fledgling push for nuclear disarmament and his outreach to the Muslim world....

This is a very hot troposphere with multiple vortexes and more forming. The tornado is connected with a newly formed cortex. (click title for 12 hour loop)

Tornado hits Dallas County, heading toward city

A tornado is reported on the ground in southeast Dallas county heading in the direction of the city.
WFAA-TV has been showing live video of the tornado gaining in size and speed as it churns toward the northeast.
Update at 2:23 p.m. ET: A tornado on the ground just south of downtown Dallas, WFAA TV reports.
Update at 2: 22 p.m. ET: WFAA reports that a "Code Black" has been issued at Parkland Hospital, which means keeping all patients awayfrom windows.

The Southern Plains vortex has the highest velocity with the highest degree of temperature changes.

Impoverishing the American Middle Class only defeats the economy of the USA.

President Obama gave an excellent speech today at the Associated Press luncheon. Adjectives he used about the economy the GOP is proposing are Trojan Horse, radical and thinly veiled Social Darwinism.

He is correct. The GOP have designed an economic strategy for the wealthy. What the GOP never reflects on is the beauty of the American Dream. They call upon the words "American Exceptionalism," but, they don't speak to the truth of that opportunity.

The USA's exceptional place in the world is due to the strength of the Middle Class. It is a unique capacity in the world. The promise in the USA has always been that if a person applies themselves to addressing a "hope" for a future better than they were born into, it is possible to achieve it. That is not exclusively for lottery winners, but, it does REQUIRE the ability to achieve those goals.

The USA's birth right is the opportunity for a future that actually builds a unique economy. The USA's economy has always been powered by the large number of consumers within its borders due to its Middle Class. The promise of upward mobility 'is the economy' of the USA.

Education

Work

Safe living conditions

The USA promises to it's citizens the future holds more rewards then today. Retirement is coined as "The Golden Years." Retirement as a healthy person is a reward with the benefits of enjoyment POSTPONED in order to achieve those coveted years.

The GOP has no right to simply look into the pocketbooks of Americans to find where 'vats of money' lie in order to derive schemes to feed the wealthy. Changes in Social Security, Medicare and our entitlements are not a reasonable place to seek cuts in benefits. Seeking to improve health care delivery, which was a priority with the Affordable Care Act, to make it less costly to each member of an exchange will reduce the cost of Medicare.

The USA economy has not reached it's pinnacle of development. It is still expanding and adding jobs. The GDP is increasing. There is nothing static about this economy and the 'bottom line' is not set. The capacity of the Middle Class is the strength of this economy and the more people enjoying the benefits of the Middle Class the stronger the economy becomes. We have seen record setting statistics of impoverishment of Americans since 2008. Moving those people to the Middle Class, re-establishing them into the Middle Class only improves the size of our economy.

Subsistence economies where people scrape by do not grow, they stagnate. Middle Class statistics are all part of a viable and vibrant economy. The American Dream, the American Birth Right, the American Promise, "Hope," upward mobility and opportunity IS a strong economy. Inherent to the American MIddle Class is a strong economy. We need to continue to recover our economy and strengthen our country. I believe President Obama has proven his ability to direct and inspire our recovery.

Well. Now that Ann Romney wants to unzip Mitt, can we look forward to the "Lump in the Bed" poem.

It appears to be Ann Romney day here on the blog. First, Politico told us about the cold fear that she strikes the hearts of everyone in the Obama White House. Then she comes out and delivers with what may be the quote of the year regarding her husband, the Romneybot 2.0.

Ann Romney defended her husband's sense of humor today during a radio interview, explaining that if people think the candidate seems too stiff at times as the host suggested, she thinks "we better unzip him and let the real Mitt Romney out."

"Unzipping The Mitt" just entered the blog's Collected Euphemisms. As to anything else, well, must... not... think... of... that...

Still yet more innocent people dead with bullets from a gun in the USA.

This is what the Second Amendment has brought us under the guidance of the NRA. What was the gunman's complaint this time? Certainly, not self defense this time, right?

7 dead, 3 injured, suspect caught in college shooting (click title to entry - thank you)

...Police captured the suspected gunman inside an Alameda grocery store five miles away from the shooting site at Oikos University after he allegedly walked to the customer service counter and told employees, "I just shot some people."...

Another nutcase uncontained. Oh, gun laws won't let that happen, nah, how could this happen over and over and over again?

We have poor gun laws in the USA and this is yet another proof of same. There are too many guns on the street and they are so easily sold along with their ammunition that everyone can get their hands on them.

My guess is the gunman used a small 9mm with at least ten bullets in the clip. It could have had 12 and he missed a couple of times.

I love this ad. It is so completely irrelevant it can't be undone. Maybe a burp and fart would have been more pertinent.

Look, the one person in that courtroom who made foolish comments was Judge Scalia. He admitted he wasn't expected to have reviewed all the provisions of the bill and referred to a Corn Husker Kick Back that was removed from the bill a long time ago.

Someone needs to look at Justice Scalia's time card, it looks as though he rarely punches in.

Wall Street actually sees oil stocks as a sustained investment. Amazing.

Wall Street has no intentions of letting the American people, or any populous for that matter, off the mat. They will wrestle with unpopularity forever if they can get away with it dragging global economies down without a thought to the morality of it all. It is up to the people of any nation to make choices and proceed with a value system that works for them.

It hasn't been enough to prove the damage fossil fuels do and have done to the environment, not to mention the damage drilling does to the land, these companies have no intention of stopping their drilling, fracking or oil sands processing. They are interested in profit at any cost, regardless, of how impoverished it makes their customers.

It is up to the people of the USA to stop using fossil fuel energy and make choices that will change their quality of life. The era of fossil fuels is over and their government should have been preparing the country for the time it was unrealistic to continue. This is completely ridiculous and the decades of Republicans with lack of vision for the USA has stranded its people to the ravages of Wall Street.

...If you listen to the daily noise, (click title to entry - thank you) you could end up buying at the highs when the markets are up huge and everything looks great, but then you could end up selling with a loss when markets are ugly and fear of a financial collapse from Europe is hitting the headlines. While the world economy faces multiple and serious challenges, recessions don't last forever and the global population continues to grow. Eventually that means more need for housing, energy, food, etc. Oil stocks could be one of the best sectors to invest in as the world economy recovers....

Halliburton charged with selling nuclear technology to Iran (click title to entry - thank you). Do we really need Wall Street welfare?

The GOP needs more than Murdoch

She is a journalist by education, so her political career finally led to a job she wanted for years.

I don't watch the Today Show and that won't change.

But, look, the books didn't work, the movie was a bust and she has bills to pay as well as an image to change. I think the word is resourceful, but, that is the venue of the GOP anyway. If they loss they 'find a way.'

Global Corals effected by warming seas.

...Elizabeth Selig, conservation scientist with Conservation International and the study’s lead author, says corals living in marine protected areas can be just as susceptible to ocean warming as their unprotected neighbors.
“Marine protected areas (MPAs) can protect coral reefs from localized problems, particularly overfishing and terrestrial run-off,” says Selig, who led the study as part of her dissertation in Bruno’s lab.
“However, the magnitude of losses from increased ocean temperatures as a result of climate change seems to be overwhelming these positive effects. This paper suggests that we need to rethink our current planning for MPAs in order to maximize the benefits they can provide.”
Globally, corals reefs are being degraded by a number of factors including overfishing, sedimentation, and rising ocean temperatures due to greenhouse gas emissions, Selig says....

What will come of the people of the Maldives?

...“He took office and immediately plunged into the climate debate,” Shenk said. “He’s framing the climate debate as a human rights issue. He very much sees the climate fight, the struggle against climate change, as an extension of his fight for democracy.”
In a quote from the film, Nasheed explains: “When we came to power we thought we won the fight. After twenty years, we thought, ‘Look, OK, we’ll have a happy life.’ But we had our first few cabinet meetings, and most of the pending issues were climate change issues. Weather patterns are changing, and that’s having a very big impact on fisheries. We have lost a lot of the shoreline. Our islands are going to be flooded.”...
North and South Malosmadulu Atolls (click here) are in the Maldives, an island republic in the northern Indian Ocean, southwest of India. The Maldives are made up of a chain of 1,192 small coral islands, which are grouped into clusters of atolls. It has a total area of 298 square kilometers and a population of about 330,000. The capital and largest city is Male, with a population of about 80,000. Arguably the lowest-lying country in the world, the average elevation is just 1 meter above sea level.
Lowest point: Indian Ocean 0 m

Highest point: unnamed location on
Viligili in the Addu Atholhu 2.4 m

m = meters

2.4 meters = 8.87 feet

The highest point in the Maldives is less than 9 feet above sea level.

It is safe to say with Antarctica showing profound 'melt' these people have a right to be worried.
