Making citizenship for immigrants based on securing southern borders is a hideous idea. There is no possible way to make the border with Mexico 100% leak proof. It isn't going to happen. THAT is a separate issue and should never be tied to the plights of our immigrant population.

This is a very good point and one of the reasons Republicans are dragging their feet about anything immigrant. They are trying in any way possible to suppress the opportunity for new citizens' vote in 2016 and otherwise. The longer the timeline to citizenship the less pressure on Republicans to change their evil ways. The longer the timeline to citizenship, the more likely it is for cronies to continue to drop large amounts of money into the coffers of Republicans. The GOP is afraid of immigrants, their values, lifestyles and demands on government.
