Alito

He is a frustrated dictator. He states the federal legislature has no authority over the Supreme Court.

EVER HEAR OF IMPEACHMENT?

The procedure is the same, the House impeaches and the Senate convicts. Implied in that authority is the reality that since impeachment can remove a Supreme Court Justice, the the federal legislature can define what is unethical and/or corrupt.

Alito was never a good justice and never will be.

The corruption of Joe Manchin and his gas pipeline made it to the Supreme Court and the court ruled that the federal legislation that allowed the corruption was legal.

Like I said, when it comes to corruption one carries it out and the other one swears to it. The last thing this country needs is more drilling for methane and the leaky pipelines that carry it. Yet, since the Supreme Court is more political than correct the corruption is never called out and is found to be legal.

The cover up was carried out by John Roberts without a hearing or vote. There was no rational as to why this pipeline was legal AND safe of people, hence, the climate.

Alito is wrong. Congress does hold a check and balance power over the USA Supreme Court.

13 East Coast State Energy Emergency

13 east coast states in the USA have a declared energy emergency with all power producers to operate at full capacity due to the heavy drain on the grid due to air conditioning.

This is only the end of July. August will continue to heat.

It isn’t enough to just produce more power but there needs to be legislation in those states demanding residents and businesses to operate the air conditioning at higher temperatures. It would be best to set temperatures as high as tolerable depending on circumstances and biological need; ie: hospitals.

This is it. This is the climate crisis scientists have warned against. We are facing dire circumstances in high density population areas.

Legislators must act.

The Georgia Prosecutors are absolutely correct. Trump solicited fraud.

Shelby Township Clerk Stan Grot (clic here) speaks with reporters after announcing his 2018 Republican run for Michigan secretary of state on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at the Capitol in Lansing, Mich. Grot, a Republican who has served as the Shelby Township clerk since 2012, was notified Thursday, July 20, 2023, that he will be prohibited from holding elections after being charged earlier this week for acting as a fake election in 2020 for then-President Donald Trump.

Stan Grot is responsible for his actions, but, his inspiration did not simply come into being from shear imagination. The False Elector phenomena occurred in more than just Michigan.

Ginni Thomas was in the White House frequently and in touch with Trump every time. She caused people to be fired from the staff. She was involved in bringing pressure to people to act and defraud the 2020 elections. Prosecutors better not look the other way. The Justice Thomas has stated Ginni acts independently in her political fervor. The entire scenario surrounding 2020 is being attempted again and it needs to stop. Those responsible at all levels need to be held accountable, not just the Grunt Workers like Stan Grot.

...Neama Rahmani, (click here) a former federal prosecutor and president of West Coast Trial Lawyers, said there is a possibility that Thomas could yet be investigated over the Arizona fake electoral plot.

"Her lawyer has publicly said that Thomas simply signed a pre-written letter, but there is reportedly evidence that she played a larger role in efforts to overturn the 2020 election. If so, Ginni Thomas may have crossed the line of political advocacy or aggressive legal strategy to criminal conduct," Rahmani told Newsweek.

As well as her emails to Arizona lawmakers and election officials, according to information obtained by The Washington Post and CBS News, Thomas was found to have sent text messages to Trump's former chief of staff Mark Meadows urging him to help overturn the 2020 results while spouting a series of election conspiracy theories, including calling Biden's victory as the "greatest heist of our history."

The House Select Committee which investigated the Capitol attack said that Thomas was also in direct communication with Trump attorney John Eastman, who allegedly orchestrated the plot to pressure former Vice President Mike Pence to not certify the 2020 election results in Congress on January 6, despite knowing such a tactic would be illegal....

The Georgia prosecutors are absolutely correct. There is no doubt and plenty of proof. Trump solicited fraud.

Other states need to examine the findings of Georgia because Trump actively solicited plans to overthrow a federal presidential election. There are false electors being charged, but, don't stop there. They did not carry out their conspiracy alone.

The Fulton county district attorney (click here) investigating Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia in recent weeks has weighed several potential statutes under which to charge, including solicitation to commit election fraud and conspiracy to commit election fraud, according to two people briefed on the matter.

The move by the Fulton county district attorney, Fani Willis, to identify a list of potential charges marks a major juncture in the criminal investigation and suggests prosecutors are on course to ask a grand jury to return indictments next month.

Among the state election law charges that prosecutors were examining: criminal solicitation to commit election fraud and conspiracy to commit election fraud, as well as solicitation of a public or political officer to fail to perform their duties and solicitation to destroy, deface or remove ballots, the people said....

AI needs to be permanently dismantled.

I have said it before. AI has no brain. It does not think. It cannot discern life from no life. It is dangerous in it's ability to be programmed and carry forward it's own priorities. It creates lazy humans.

This may be a test, but, it also is proof. AI is not capable of thinking and allowing it's programming is too dangerous to continue. The only entity that thinks and conducts the scientific method are human beings.

The world’s best artificial intelligence (AI) systems (click here) can pass tough exams, write convincingly human essays and chat so fluently that many find their output indistinguishable from people’s. What can’t they do? Solve simple visual logic puzzles.

In a test consisting of a series of brightly coloured blocks arranged on a screen, most people can spot the connecting patterns. But GPT-4, the most advanced version of the AI system behind the chatbot ChatGPT and the search engine Bing, gets barely one-third of the puzzles right in one category of patterns and as little as 3% correct in another, according to a report by researchers this May1.

The team behind the logic puzzles aims to provide a better benchmark for testing the capabilities of AI systems — and to help address a conundrum about large language models (LLMs) such as GPT-4. Tested in one way, they breeze through what once were considered landmark feats of machine intelligence. Tested another way, they seem less impressive, exhibiting glaring blind spots and an inability to reason about abstract concepts.

“People in the field of AI are struggling with how to assess these systems,” says Melanie Mitchell, a computer scientist at the Santa Fe Institute in New Mexico whose team created the logic puzzles (see ‘An abstract-thinking test that defeats machines’)....

Senate Bill 2358 (click here)

Ballot harvesting ban
May 31, 2023

Lawsuit filed by Disability Rights Mississippi, (click here) the League of Women Voters of Mississippi, a voter and two individuals who provide voter assistance challenging Senate Bill 2358, a recently enacted law that “restricts voters with disabilities from having a person of their choice assist them in submitting their completed” mail-in ballots. Specifically, S.B. 2358 stipulates that only election officials, postal workers, family members, household members or caregivers can assist voters with disabilities in returning their completed mail-in ballots and imposes criminal penalties and fines on those who violate the law. Prior to the enactment of S.B. 2358, anyone of a voter’s choice — including social workers, voting organizations and other trusted individuals — could assist voters with disabilities in returning their completed mail-in ballots.

The plaintiffs allege that the challenged law — which makes it harder for voters to cast their ballot and “also risks disenfranchising entirely blind, disabled, or low-literacy voters” — violates Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA). Section 208 of the VRA guarantees that “[a]ny voter who requires assistance to vote by reason of blindness, disability, or inability to read or write may be given assistance by a person of the voter’s choice’” so long as the assistor is not the “the voter’s employer or agent of that employer or officer or agent of the voter’s union.”...

A U.S. District Court in Mississippi (click here) temporarily blocked a voting law in the state Tuesday that was set to go into effect July 1. The law, known as Senate Bill 2358, creates new restrictions for who can assist someone while voting by mail.

Voting rights and disability rights advocates, who filed the lawsuit, argue Mississippi's law violates a federal protection that allows a voter to choose who helps them cast a ballot.

In his order striking down the law, U.S. District Court Judge Henry Wingate wrote, "voting polls are expected to extend outstretched hands of welcome and provide unfettered access to conscientious citizens anxious to enjoy 'participatory democracy'- whether those citizens be among the vulnerable and the disabled."

SB 2358, which was signed into law earlier this year, set new limits on who can collect and transmit a ballot that was mailed to someone else. In Mississippi, the state's absentee-by-mail voting program is for limited groups of voters — people out of town on Election Day, people 65 or older and people with a temporary or permanent physical disability....

Why are there politics surrounding Hunter Biden?

Hunter Biden is not being handed a pardon by his father. He is made to be responsible for his actions. If his attorney tried to consolidate the resolve to the indictments in one document, that is not anyone's fault. The judge stated it was unprecedented. It is time for Hunter Biden's attorney to try again to find an avenue of appropriate fines, etc.

The GOP's corruption runs deep and doesn't at all include accountability for their lawlessness.

This is a political article. (click here)

But while it is about politics, it takes no political point of view. These concepts apply regardless of affiliation or inclination. Red or blue. Republican or Democrat. Conservative or liberal. Tory or Whig.

When (click here) he served as chairman of the EEOC (Equal Opportunity Employment Commission), Thomas appeared in a public service announcement with the Cowboys, and Thomas and Jones became friends, per the report.

There are rules that apply to judges. Rules about avoiding impropriety and the appearance of impropriety. Those rules should be honored and respected by every judge, at every level.

The Supreme Court recently has been embroiled in controversy regarding lavish benefits reportedly bestowed on longtime Justice Clarence Thomas. Recently, the New York Times reported that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones once gave Thomas a Super Bowl ring.

On Tuesday, Jones was asked about the kind of gift that typically isn’t handed out by NFL owners — unless guys like Vladimir Putin walk away with one....

...Supreme Court Justices are indeed politicians. They don’t land in those jobs without being politically active and/or politically connected. And, regardless of whether they were engaged in active partisan politics before being confirmed to the bench, they must be unbiased — and they must appear to be unbiased.

That’s where Jones also got it wrong. Asked whether his unique and expensive gift to Thomas created a conflict of interest and/or assisted Jones in any business he might have before the Supreme Court, Jones tried to downplay such obvious complications....

Jones didn't just get it wrong, so did Thomas. "The Giving" is one act of corruption, but, "The Receiving" is more egregious and highly unethical.

...As a 43-year-old with barely one year of experience on the judiciary under his belt, (click here) Clarence Thomas was quite young and inexperienced when George H. W. Bush nominated him to the Supreme Court in 1991....

Ms. Anita Hill was absolutely correct in addition to his sexual harassment and possibly assault, Clarence Thomas was simply not ready for the Supreme Court.

It is a listening post at the very least.

 https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/west/mystery-company-buys-nearly-1-billion-of-land-near-air-force-base/amp/

It doesn’t matter whether it is foreign investment or not, it is a national security issue. The federal government needs to invoke eminent domain and take the land for as far around ANY military base that is necessary for $1.00 per acre. That will stop the encroachment.

China and any other communist country should never be welcomed to invest at all in the USA, yet alone own property and businesses or residential land. It should be outlawed and held as a benefit to allies!

I read an article the other day saying China and the USA are talking again. For what? It is no help with North Korea. The aggression there by Kim is and has been completely unacceptable and unnecessary. The war was over a long time ago. Kim makes the pull back from the Chinese border for the sake of peace seem like a huge historical mistake.

Communists are communists and incapable of peace for their paranoid delusions.

The great Robert Frost was right, “Good fences make good neighbors.” Nothing is more true than with communists!

China used USA technology to spy on us. Since when is that forgivable? There is a lot to talk about, but, it isn’t about foreign investment; it is more like “China go home and take your pandemics with you!”

When CEOs and private industry fail the people, government has to step into the breach.

It is time to take our governance back! These projects MUST go forward. These projects are not an option.

March 20, 2023

...In recent years, (click here) wind turbine manufacturers like Siemens have expressed concerns that the cost of wind energy is getting too low to maintain the development and growth of the market. Rising costs, and government pricing structures present constant challenges to manufacturers.

Again in May 2023, Siemens’ Tim Dawidowsky’s commented, “it’s all about cash.” Obviously, Dawidowsky would like to see European turbine makers get more money – and he’s not the only one. We reported on that comment in an Uptime Podcast episode the following week, along with other concerns about energy pricing strategies.

Because different countries finance energy in vastly different ways, the industry absolutely does not enjoy a level playing field. While many European countries control energy developments outright – and other countries, like the US, has a long history of incentives and subsidy programs – it is difficult to determine actual costs, true profits and losses, and almost impossible to compare energy costs between nations....

This is a complete failure by private industry and its leadership to provide a paradigm shift. Private industry is NOT COMPETENT enough to provide the change in energy sources. The CEOs run away from cost and never bother to seek the power of the people to bring about change.

We all know the drill. CEOs get bonuses and salary based often in profits. When profits fail CEOs have to scrap their plans for their next vacation home. The incentives for CEOs to carry out costs that will ultimately be paid back after the utility is operational is counter productive for the people. The profit incentive is not workable on a hot planet.

None of the CEOs in this article solicited the people and/or the governments to find a way forward. They simply looked at a balance sheet and their next bonus and cancelled plans that are vital to energy production.

Public utilities, no different than the purchase of EVs for the USA Post Office, should be the priority of the people and not one man with nothing but a profit margin in mind. There are aspects of governance that should never be privatized. One of those venues is energy production.

...The jettisoned projects (click here) are the latest signs of stress for offshore wind farms that use turbines larger than skyscrapers to harvest power from the sea air, where winds are most powerful and consistent. Soaring materials costs, particularly for steel, forced turbine makers to raise prices. Costs of other key services, like specialized vessels to install the turbines, have jumped sharply as well. And rising interest rates mean that it’s more expensive to take on debt.

That doesn’t mean investment has ground to a complete halt. Some projects in the US and the UK are still going ahead, despite cost increases. And earlier this month, oil majors BP Plc and TotalEnergies SE bid €12.6 billion ($14 million) to develop offshore wind farms in Germany’s North Sea. But canceled and delayed projects show that if governments are committed to offshore wind, they’ll have to pay more to get it.

Capital costs and prices for turbines, cables and other equipment have “gone up sharply,” Mads Nipper, chief executive officer at Orsted, said in a post on LinkedIn. “This means that price of renewable energy regrettably must come up temporarily after years of steep decline.”...

A federal jury in Miami on Wednesday found a Florida family guilty (click here) of defrauding the United States by distributing a toxic bleaching agent as a Covid-19 cure, according to court records.

Mark Grenon and his sons, Jonathan, Jordan and Joseph Grenon, were convicted of promoting and selling “Miracle Mineral Solution,” which “when mixed, develops into a dangerous bleach which has caused serious and potentially life-threatening side effects,” according to the FDA, which issued a warning about the product in 2019.

The solution contains sodium chlorite and water, court records said. The Grenons instructed customers to mix the solution with an “acidic activator,” which produces chlorine dioxide, “a powerful bleaching agent typically used for bleaching and stripping textiles, pulp, and paper.”...

Trump's administration deregulates everything, lays off IRS agents and looks the other way at law breakers.

People that normally would never have a product to sell or the means to do it will vote for Trump and Trump-like candidates because they can conduct illegal and immoral operations with abandon.

Trump doesn't care about the death of others, only his own.

In my opinion Trump was making a campaign speech in this very alarming rendition of anarchy.

Foreign to any speech or policy by Trump is a long and well established "Scientific Method." Medical investigation is among the most diligent of in the practice of safe standards. All that is absent completely in this campaign speech by Trump. I think he is culpable in his suggestion of using bleach.

The Scientific Method is a procedure that has characterized natural science since the 17th century, consisting in systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses.

Eagle Pass (click here) became the first city to have a floating barrier in the Rio Grande River designed as another safety layer to the Texas border.

The new "wall" is made of massive orange buoys with connecting netting that stretches 1,000 feet. Each stretch of barrier cost the Texas government around $1 million dollars and it will take up to two weeks to complete....

Who's brother-in-law got the check?

Who collects the dead human bodies, animals and fish? It is a public heath hazard as much as a national security issue. It will get clogged with all sorts of debris from the river. If there is enough accumulation of garbage it could create it's own islands. Once the islands form, the path over the barrier will be easy.

There is a fairly large sediment transport by the Rio Grande because it's mouth into the Gulf of Mexico gets blocked. It is a project for the Army Corps (click here). The floating wall is going to compromise any efforts carried out prior to this and will cause flooding and human tragedy on both sides of it. Texas is going to be liable for it's use.

Who is going to be jailed for the human deaths it causes?

The truth is that the ports belong to Russia are used to export to the west of the country, including military supplies.

The National Security Council (click here) says that Russia is attempting a "false flag operation" to "justify any attacks against civilian ships in the Black Sea and to then blame them on Ukraine."

The declaration comes days after Russia backed out of a deal that helped move grain from Ukrainian ports, threatening global food supply.

NSC spokesperson John Kirby told reporters in a briefing Thursday afternoon that Russia may try to expand its targets in the Black Sea to attacks on civilian ships that are transporting grain and food.

"Russia has already announced publicly that all ships proceeding to Ukrainian ports in Black Sea waters will be considered potential carriers of military cargo, even though they are simply trying to pick up grain and food to be able to feed people around the world," Kirby said....

There are a lot of countries along the Black Sea; Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey and Georgia. Moldova is near the Black Sea but has no direct water fronts with it. Putin will sink ships in order to begin a larger war while blaming Ukraine. He is a sincere global problem.

"We're seamlessly integrating our deterrence efforts to make a basic truth crystal clear to any potential foe," Austin said. "That truth is that the cost of aggression against the United States or our allies and partners far outweigh any conceivable gains."

This is no joke.

This book was written in 1978. Writing about the melting ice caps caused me to remember this title.

It is amazingly current in it's content in the social setting and political issues. They are hardly political issues, they are life and death issues. The character comments are spot on.

This book was written 45 years ago and we are all facing the same exact concerns today.

Why is it humans cannot get their minds around the FACT there are dangers in this world we can end and yet we don't? The power of money dominates the human experience and it is so powerful it can summon death of civilization.

Everyone on Earth should read this book.

There is no there, there

I am really surprised at Senator Grassley. It is all Republican theatrics orchestrated by Trump.

Viktor Shokin was a corrupt Prosecutor General and removed from office by the Ukraine legislature. At the time Shokin was in office there were still strong Russian influences in Ukraine. That Russian influence was corruption. Shokin refused to follow that line of corruption in the country and it was viewed by the legislature as a violation of his oath in office.

At the time Ukraine wanted a trading relationship with the EU. The businessmen in Ukraine wanted that market opportunity to open. The EU saw what Shokin was doing and refused to allow any contracts or treaties to be drawn up because of the corruption.

The USA is part of NATO. The EU is part of NATO. With Ukraine wanting to establish trade relationships with the EU, the USA used leverage to force the issue. It had nothing to do with Burisma. The fact Hunter Biden has a relationship with Burisma is happenstance.

The then Vice President Biden was acting in the very best interest of NATO. It is all verifiable. Hunter’s relationship with Burisma has and still has nothing to do with the leverage used by the USA to end the corruption with the Ukraine Prosecutor General Shokin. Shokin was basically Putin’s puppet within the Ukraine government.

What surprises me is Grassley. He appears to be Trump’s puppet within the USA Senate. AND. The idea Grassley would want it to have happened differently. Is Grassley Anti-NATO as Trump is? Certainly he is not anti-Ukraine, is he? Biden acted on priorities that were NATO policy.

Curious. Very. Very. Curious.

When water shifts. I have to disagree with this information.

June 18, 2023
By Tereza Pultarova

Earth's tilt has changed by 31.5 inches (80 centimeters) (click here) between 1993 and 2010 because of the amount of groundwater humans have pumped from the planet's interior.

In that period, humans removed 2,150 gigatons of water from natural reservoirs in the planet's crust. If such an amount was poured into the global ocean, its surface would rise by 0.24 inches (6 millimeters). A new study has now revealed that displacing such an enormous amount of water has had an effect on the axis around which the planet spins.

Scientists arrived at this conclusion by modeling the changes in the position of Earth's rotational pole, the point at which the planet's imaginary axis would stick out of the surface if it were a physical object. The position of the rotational pole is not identical with the geographical north and south poles and actually changes over time, so the rotational axis cuts through different spots on the planet's crust at various points in time....

If Earth wasn't on meltdown they would have a more viable argument, but, Earth is on meltdown.

It is realistic to believe the water taken from reservoirs ultimately makes it to the ocean and increases the level of the seas, but, there is a much larger runoff of fresh water into the oceans and it isn't from reservoirs.

March 21, 2023
Aylin Woodward and Marianne Guenot

Since 1980, Earth's north and south poles have drifted about 13 feet. (click here)

The poles are where the planet's surface intersects with its axis of rotation — the invisible line running through the center of Earth's mass, which it spins around. But their geographic locations aren't fixed: As the Earth's axis moves, so do the poles.

A study published in March 2021 found that Earth's axis started shifting drastically in 1995, speeding the movement of the poles and changing its direction. The
culprit behind that shift, the researchers found, was melting glaciers....

The icefields of Earth are melting. Historic melt is occurring in Greenland as I write this. It is the hottest season in the Northern Hemisphere and glaciers and the Arctic Ocean are melting.

July 20, 2023
By Laura Padison

A recently discovered ice core taken from beneath Greenland’s ice sheet (click here) decades ago has revealed that a large part of the country was ice-free around 400,000 years ago, when temperatures were similar to those the world is approaching now, according to a new report – an alarming finding that could have disastrous implications for sea level rise.

The study overturns previous assumptions that most of Greenland’s ice sheet has been frozen for millions of years, the authors said. Instead, moderate, natural warming led to large-scale melting and sea level rise of more than 1.4 meters (4.6 feet), according to the report published Thursday in the journal Science.

“When you look at what nature did in the past, as geoscientists, that’s our best clue to the future,” said Paul Bierman, a scientist at the University of Vermont and a lead author of the study....

Greenland's ice cores are infamous. It has taken decades to work through the enormous amount of information extracted from them.

The rule of thumb is that the Arctic Ocean is an ocean and floating so all the melt there won't contribute to large amounts of sea level rise. It is like an ice cube floating in a water glass. The water level will not change as the ice melts and cools the water. The Arctic Ocean is not a direct analogy, but, does lend itself to that dynamic. The real concern is the land based ice like glaciers.

The Arctic Ocean, to be clear, has had land based ice as the ice forms on land as well as the ocean. But, the majority of the Arctic Ocean is floating, or at least it was until the melting has spawned nothing more than one year old ice. Even that one year old ice is marginally an ice flow. Scientists are having trouble setting up equipment that normally lent itself to establishing a temporary campsite. The ice that is called one year ice is very thin and unable to hold a scientist for very long before cracking. The one year old Arctic Ocean ice is very unstable because it hasn't time to build a strong matrix when the heat hits it again.

Antarctica is all land based with the exception of floating sea ice and icebergs. So, the melting occurring in Antarctica directly adds to sea level rise. It can be substantial.

But, as to Earth's axis, the caps are melting. They are no longer stable. Water is heavy and as it moves around Earth in currents it can easily contribute to Earth's wobble.

As the icefields of Earth melt and are added to Earth's seas and oceans there is a huge weight added that will alter the world's axis.

Besides that there is also valuable studies done as to Earth's rotation. The heating occurring with anthropogenic greenhouse gas pollution actually causes changes, "drag if you will," of the atmosphere on Earth's rotation. So, over time, Earth's rotation is slowing. Add to that the weight of water now in currents of Earth's oceans and seas, there is a lot of change that will occur with Earth. It is not good change.

Polluting societies MUST stop polluting NOW.

Recently, in the last day or so, some of the petroleum industry stated that if there were more trees planted there would be no need for converting from fossil fuels to alternative energies. That is a lie. The heating of Earth has gone way to far. There is also nearly 8 billion people on Earth as never before. The idea planting more trees will solve the problem with Earth's heating is nonsense when one realizes there are spontaneous wildfires all the time now. Trees burn on an overheated planet. Planting more is necessary and the moral thing to do, but, it alone will not solve a problem that is way out of control.

The populations of Earth need to realize this is the only place in the universe they can call home. It is time, as Pope Francis said, to treat it like a common home to all people.
