The most stupid and victimizing oppostiional argument to date from the Right Wing Extremists regarding airplane travel security comes from a woman.
This is Mohammad Atta coming o board a plane the morning of September 11, 2010. I've witnessed this type of victimizing behavior before by female Murdoch media anchors and commentators. I don't know if they are so out of touch with the Middle Class that they simply take a stand based on THEIR UNDERSTANDING and not reality of what THEIR PROBLEM is, but, it is never realistic....Airport security (click title to entry - thank you) began confiscating little old ladies' knitting needles and breaking the mouse-sized nail files off of passengers' nail clippers. Surprisingly, no decrease in the number of hijacking attempts by little old ladies and manicurists was noted.

Airport security on September 11, 2010 was not completely inept. If one notes the time of day, Atta was there in plenty of time for the flight. What the airlines neglected to realize is that one than one terrorist could be involved in hijacking airplanes and to protect from it. At no point in time was airplane hijacking a new concept on September 11, 2001. It was happening all over the world and it was always a band of men. I don't recall off hand if here were women involved before this point, I don't recall any. But, there were women involved in these acivities after this point, both in Russia and Jordan.
So, on September 11, 2010 it is completely obvious the airlines were not protecting their crews, passengers or airplanes with THE REALITY that such an attack was possible. Hence, enters the TSA. End of disucssion as to whether the TSA is necessary or not. It definately is.
So, now in the year 2010 people are angry, primarily instigated by the economic collapse of 2010 and a deficit driven by that economic collapse in more ways then one. These same citizens are now victim to any entity in the 'media marketplace' to exploit for a listener or viewer nework. Now, frequent flyers want to eliminate the TSA from their venue of flying AS IF there were no danger at all to them PER commentators that seek to victimize for their own benefit 'the angry.'
Why is Coulter's commentary stupid and victimizing? I mean I actually have to point this out. Come on people it is time to 'come home' already.
Coulter's commentary is simple, stupid and victimizing because it states 'levels of PRECAUTIONS' that have actually WORKED. That's right, the precautions the TSA have been taking all these years are based in their own research and in reaction to actual events. The shoe bomber, the underpants bomber and now the remote ink cartridge bomber.
If average citizens want to complain about inconvenience, invasion of privacy and potential harm from repeated low level radiation exposure, then blame the terrorists, not the TSA or the federal governments of any country, because, they are working as hard as they can to stop this disaster, including the miliaries. The recent interruption of explosive devices in Namibia is an example to the 'radar' airline security systems are becoming tuned. So, knock it off and stop treating every irritation of modern society as if it is appropriate to vicimtize the very people seeking to protect citizens of every nation.
Whenever I have flown, of which the most recent were in July and August of 2010; I arrive at the airport two hours before boarding. It is more than ample time to get through security and find a comfortable seat near my boarding gate while I read or use my computer 'in transit' as I am doing now. I don't travel with children anymore so it might be more tedious to do so. But, at no time would I allow 'requirements of airline security' to enter into the picture as an annoyance. Never. Those folks are sincerely tring to do good work from the leadership to the security officers themselves.
If I were traveling during this holiday season I would be reporting with my children at least three hours before the flight to insure there was plenty of time for 'bathroom breaks' and 'snack time' and simply waiting while collecting thoughts about the destination and what is expected of the children during the flight and upon arrival all the way to the 'awaiting vehicle' to reach the locaiton of the purpose of the flight.
If I were an institution such as Disney World, I would be hypersenstive to the extreme length of time people have traveled to arrive at their destination and seek to 'help' with children by providing people that handle luggage to deliver them to the room without parents being burdened by tired children as well.
Holidays in the USA are suppose to warm and fuzzy experiences at every turn. There is more reason this holiday season to 'extend comfort' in every measure to the traveler and especially where that is met with children. I would expect the highest compliance by travelers to the demands of high tech security in knowing there is 'joy' in that quoitent at the end of the day.
If I were within the infrastructure of any security firm I would be fully staffed with qualitfied people to facilitate the shortest waiting times and the highest degree of comfort.
I understand there are 'inconsistent' applicaitons of security throughout the airports of the USA. My best estimate is there are some airports more susceptible to terrorist activity than others and the application of any security measure is 'fine tuned' by the airport management themselves. So, the inconsistency is more than likely NOT the issue of the TSA so much as the application of those measures by the management at the particular airport. Passengers need to 'tune' their preparedness for travel to that reality.
I have traveled though airports in large cities and small towns. The degree to which they apply their security systems is different, however, I found more 'interaction' through conversation with security personnel at the small airports simply because there are not as many people to screen in any span of time and the officers can derive more information through conversation than through scanners. It isn't as though we are not treated as human beings when the time allows and the 'mechanics' of security can be somewhat reduced.
I believe every TSA agent all along the leadership chain, every pilot and every flight attendant are worth every penny they earn and then some. They are true professionals and I personally thank every one of them. My personal philosophy (attitude) regarding air travel in the year 2010 is one of cooperation and preparedness to provide ID and security by availing my luggage and person to whaever concern arises. Those people are there for ME. They are there to protect me and I have to cooperate 'to assist' their ability to protect me. I have no problem with any request.
It isn't as though I have had a perfect experience every time either. I once made reservations at the last minute and of all things paid cash. I was considered a 'high risk' passenger when I went to pick up my boarding pass. I was asked to step aside and at that point I was exposed to high security intervention. It was all explained to me as to why and how and I was 'fine with it.'
Get over it.
The TSA has to determine the 'danger level' of the radiation used in the scanners and educate the passengers to that reality so they can make 'good choices' about their 'security intervention.' I strongly believe OSHA and POSHA have to have a regular presence to be sure the security personnel are not over exposed to any radiation source. A combined exposure could be occurring in any part of the building and all that has to be realized and secured as well.
I hope all the travelers this season will enjoy their 'venture' from the time they pick up their luggage at home to the time they return 'in one piece.'

......Under fire from airline passengers and members of Congress, the Transportation Security Administration has begun to fire back, defending the use of a new pat-down search technique and full-body scanners that can see through clothing.
On the TSA website and in testimony before Congress, the agency has insisted that the new, more aggressive security measures are safe and will help make air travel safer.
Earlier this month, the TSA instructed airport security officers to use a more aggressive pat-down search technique that allows the officers to probe and feel passengers with their fingers and palms....

I am still waiting for my fellow Americans to start putting themselves first rather than convenience and time schedule.

There was a time when I refused to fly before when I had my two young sons on a flight home and the 747's engines cut out on a short hop in the country before going on to South America. The pilot reversed the engines after we were strapped into our seats with pillows on our laps. The engines vibrated the gigantic plane as they caught enough air to start the turbines spinning again and the plane bellied out of its fall, stabilized and safely landed before it finished its destiny.
After that occurred I took my precious and beautiful sons home with me and never flew again with them with me. I never got into a plane for thirteen years. I imagine with this foolishness going on it will be another thirteen years before I fly again.

Representative Lewis is to receive the Metal of Freedom.
He is a living legend.
The men that line the halls of the Congressional Black Caucus have never had 'normal' lives or legislative experiences.
Their dedication to the cause of Freedom is remarkable. It is why they are dignified beyond their years.
To depart from admiring Rep. Lewis, there was an article in The New York Times earlier this year that outlined the extent the African American Legislators were able to raise money and secure their community's hopes and dreams. (click here)
The African American Community has had simply great leaders. They also were oppressed and were working for a community of people oppressed and impoverished. Even today the African American community in the USA is well below the average 'wealth' of most of their White peers. Even after 2008's global economic collapse.
Why do I point to this? Because men and women with 'character enough' to act in the community's best interest did so at every turn. They moved as one and they supported each other when others chose to destroy them.
I point to this to give HONOR of the pettiness of the charges brought to Representative Charles Rangel. A man Representative Lewis found time and patience to speak on behalf of to the House Ethics Committee.
When it has come to the MINORITY Civil Rights Movement in the USA, EVERYTHING without exception is viewed ON BALANCE. EVERYTHING. The House of Representatives need to realize that reality when they take up the matter in the next session. I hope Representative Lewis intends to speak one more time to set the record straight forever.
I find the actions against Representative Rangel an action against the community. YES. Even today.

I am sorry, but, I do not support the proceedings that were carried out against Representative Rengel. He needs to return to his duties of Chair to House Ways and Means for the remainder of this session.
The complaint was full of revenge and not VALID concern for the basis of corruption. There was no corruption found and the proceedings were a witch hunt at very best.
I thought Representative Lewis was more than eloquent when he spoke of his friend of fifty years and that matters. When a peer can come forward and speak well of Rep. Rengel after all the charges were finalized, he was doing so at his own peril and willingly came forward to do so. That is admirable and stands for a great deal of compassion for the work and the work load of an eighty year old legislator that saw his fair share of hardship within Black America.
The poor reporting of taxes began when he was 63 years old. Yet, today the Ethics Committee demanded his years of loyal and dedicated service meant nothing. NOTHING. If that is the case then the CHARGES originating seventeen years ago mean nothing as well.
The proceedings from the start of the allogations to the completion today have been nothing more than an outrage and should have never occurred. Dear God, seventeen years ago? That isn't even within the statutes of limitations of most criminal charges don't go back that far. You would think the man committed murder.
Representativer Rengal needs to back to work in dignity for the rest of his years.

The beauty of the American Economy is The Middle Class.
If the top two percent of the nation was the only survivor to the American economy rather than a pyramid, the economy would be a pillar. The Middle Class would be virtually non-existant as the competition for labor would create dirt cheap income similar to the Louisiana ? Independent Contractors ? to BP.
What is occurring at GM is a re-invigoration of the work force. By calling back laid off workers the unemployment rolls are being reduced and a real income with benefits of all kinds is being returned to the work force.
What does that mean on a broader scope since this is only 600 workers?
It means those workers are no longer 'subsisting,' but, will be out purchasing higher end gifts for the holidays and CREATING jobs when demand for services and products are increases. It is a small amount with 600 workers returning, but, the PROPORTION of burden on the USA government in its deficit spending is also relieved.
There are a lot of perks for each worker that is re-engaging the economy. This SMALL increment grows exponentially.
The tax breaks afforded GM to establish its presence in that city will be returned to the city in taxes from other venues.
It is all good and it should continue in every sector of the economy.
There might be a real 'heart beat' at GM again.
But.
It is also accompanied by hiring.

As expected, the Detroit carmaker this morning said it will invest $190 million in the Lansing Grand River plant and create about 600 jobs as it gears up to make a new small car likely to be called the Cadillac ATS.
The move capped a months-long effort that included the city of Lansing granting GM $9.8 million in tax breaks.
Under a national agreement with the United Auto Workers union, GM must first offer jobs to laid-off workers in the surrounding area, but there will likely be new hires, said Mike Green, president of UAW Local 652, which represents hourly workers at the Lansing Grand River factory.
GM did not release a timeline for hiring or production, so the number of new hires has not been determined....

A suspected bomb was discovered in a suitcase checked on a German-bound plane in Namibia, Germany's Federal Crime Office said on Thursday.
10:19AM GMT 18 Nov 2010Namibian police intercepted a suspicious object with a detonator and a running clock in the luggage on an Air Berlin plane from Windhoek to Munich.
Authorities in Namibia were investigating whether the device found during the loading of the Airbus jet on Wednesday could have exploded.
"A subsequent X-ray (of the luggage) revealed batteries that were attached with wires to a detonator and a ticking clock," the German authorities said in a statement....

Republicans had indicated that they sought to take action against NPR after it dismissed Williams for making controversial remarks about Muslims....
This is such a joke. In order to receive FEDERAL FUNDING the public stations, which relies on these funds, have to uphold the values of NON-DISCRIMINATION. Juan Willians is completely guilty of religious-bigotry. So, the CHOICE by the GOP regarding the WEEKLY WINNER isn't even possible to enforce or defund without breaking the laws of the USA requirements for the funding.
I believe the "Frum Forum" is David Frum the former Presidential Speech Writer that was attacked by the 'Old Men' of the GOP.
