Ever since President Donald Trump’s victory in November, (click here) election officials at every level and voting rights advocates have worried that he would gut the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) — the little-known federal agency responsible for the nation’s cybersecurity and protecting critical infrastructure from digital threats. And now that those cuts have come to fruition, election officials are already experiencing the loss of crucial CISA resources they said are integral to voting security.
In the seven years since CISA’s creation, it’s become a crucial agency to help secure elections from foreign and domestic cybersecurity threats. Among the agency’s routine functions are sending cybersecurity experts to local election offices to recommend upgrades and best practices, training election officials to spot foreign interference and connecting offices with law enforcement agencies — a crucial practice as violence and threats to election officials significantly grew in the past decade.
But ever since CISA put its election staff on administrative leave, all of those functions have ceased....

As President Trump's once-postponed 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico (click here) are poised to transition from a threat to a reality, the auto industry is preparing for higher costs and an extraordinary disruption to their North American supply chains.
"The tariffs are all set," Trump told reporters on Monday afternoon, saying that there was no room for Canada or Mexico to negotiate another reprieve. "They go into effect tomorrow."
Trump also says he will double the tariffs he imposed on China last month, from 10% to 20%.
Speaking on Monday, Trump called his announcement "very exciting" for the auto industry and said it would benefit from his tariff plan. "So what they have to do is build their car plants, frankly, and other things in the United States, in which case they have no tariffs," Trump said....

Ukrainian authorities reported a major Russian missile and drone strike (click here) on targets across the country on Tuesday night, with a top aide to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy demanding an immediate end to Moscow's barrages as a condition for any peace deal to end Russia's three-year-old invasion.
Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 181 strike drones and three missiles into the country in the latest attack. The air force said 115 drones were shot down and 55 lost in location without causing damage.
The barrage coincided with President Donald Trump's address to a joint session of Congress, in which he said a potential peace between the two nations would be "beautiful." The strikes began before Trump entered Congress and continued into the morning, indicated by Ukrainian air force alerts....

President Trump (click here) said on Wednesday that he would pause tariffs on cars coming into the United States from Canada and Mexico for one month, after a 25 percent tariff that he placed on America’s closest trading partners a day earlier roiled stock markets and prompted stiff resistance from industry.
Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, read a statement from Mr. Trump on Wednesday saying that White House had spoken with the three largest auto makers, and that a one-month exemption would be given to cars coming in through United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
“At the request of the companies associated with U.S.M.C.A., the president is giving them an exemption for one month so they are not at an economic disadvantage,” the statement said. The three automakers that Mr. Trump spoke with were General Motors, Ford Motor and Stellantis....
