How is the climate crisis treating West Virginia?

January 22, 2022
By Jason Samenow

In an elevated valley of northeast West Virginia on Saturday morning, it was colder than just about anywhere in Alaska and among the most frigid locations in the entire United States.

Alaska hasn't seen frigid temperatures in nearly two decades as it once did. The icefields that at one time surrounded Alaska and kept it cold are no longer. They are all receding.

28 December 2021

An unusual winter warm spell in Alaska (click here) has brought daytime temperatures soaring past 15.5C (60F) and torrents of rain at a time of year normally associated with bitter cold and snow.

At the island community of Kodiak, the air temperature at a tidal gauge hit 19.4C (67F) degrees on Sunday, the highest December reading ever recorded in Alaska, said scientist Rick Thoman of the Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy. He called it “absurd.”...

Just 125 miles west of Washington, the temperature at a weather station in Canaan Valley plunged to minus-31 degrees. It is the coldest reading on record in that part of the state.

The weather station is managed by Virginia Tech at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge.

The previous lowest temperature measured in Canaan Valley was minus-27 on Jan. 21, 1985, according to Robert Leffler, a retired National Weather Service climatologist, who reported the news in an email.

Canaan Valley is a popular ski destination and home to two resorts, Canaan Valley Resort and Timberline.

Weather records have been kept in Canaan Valley since 1944, according to Leffler. The Virginia Tech weather station, however, was installed only about three years ago by meteorology instructor David Carroll. It is probable that the temperatures fell even lower there in the past....

Arizon Democrats have a lot of work to do.

Ballotpedia has all these UNKNOWNS about the 2022 elections. Really? (click here) All these dates and rules and regs should be in place by now and if they aren't it is malpractice. The level of malpractice only creates confusion.

US Senator Mark Kelly put his life on the line for this country and it's space ambitions. That deserves loyalty.

...Researchers also studied Scott’s genome (click here) to see if gene expression changed during flight, as it tends to do in stressful situations. A team led by Chris Mason, a geneticist at Weill Cornell Medicine, studied DNA and RNA modifications that would signal epigenetic adaptation. They observed some changes in how genes were expressed, and these variations accelerated in the last six months of the mission. More than six times as many differences in gene expressions cropped up over the latter half compared to the beginning of the flight.

The findings were was somewhat surprising, Mason says, because he’d expected these differences to slow down or stop after an initial period of adaptation to the new environment. The sustained and increasing genetic transformations show that the body continues to change over long periods of time in space.

Andrew Feinberg, a professor and medical researcher at Johns Hopkins University, and his team focused on methyl groups—chemical markers that usually signal changes in gene expression—and found the amount of epigenetic change was similar for the two brothers. Despite some minor differences, Scott’s genome behaved in a way that was “not worrisome,” Feinberg says.

After the mission’s end, 90 percent of the modified gene expressions returned to their pre-flight baseline—a good sign that the body can bounce back after a long mission, Mason says. The other 10 percent, which comprised over 800 genes, including ones related to immune response and DNA repair, were still being expressed differently six months after Scott’s return. “It seems, to some degree, that enough cells in the body have a memory of what happened that there's still some ongoing adaptation and recalibration to being back on Earth,” Mason says....

We have a US Senator with full expectations for space travel. Why let him go?

Britain’s accusation that the Kremlin (click here) is seeking to install a pro-Russian regime in Ukraine is “deeply concerning,” a National Security Council spokesperson said.

“The Ukrainian people have the sovereign right to determine their own future, and we stand with our democratically-elected partners in Ukraine,” the spokesperson, Emily Horne, said in a statement late Saturday.

“This kind of plotting is deeply concerning,” she added.....

NATO may as well begin the build up along the eastern borders of the alliance. It will be necessary. It's administrative offices should prepare the sanctions to be instituted at a moment's notice.

Putin has this "thing" about "Russian people." In his mind they all belong to the motherland. He called up the diaspora about five or ten years ago. It is on this blog. It is his politics. There is no disputing the fact that everything he has decided is the policy of Russia. He is now in the leadership of the communists longer than Lenin. He has decided within the practice of his politics that all Russian people, even those with dual citizenship, belong to Russia, hence, Ukraine.

This happens at a time when Ukraine has diligently cleansed itself of corruption. It is the condition on which Europe and the USA has placed in order to develop trade and continue to move toward a stable democracy with the ability to protect it's sovereignty and ultimately become part of the NATO alliance.

The current president of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy, is held in esteem of the enforcement of anti-corruption and that means Russian influence. The Russians for the most part have been removed from power and young Ukrainian talent has been put in their place with the hopes of the current generations demanding freedom and a sovereign country that reflects tomorrow and the promise within it.

The USA and NATO cannot and should not back away from this aggression by Putin and his wayward politics. He is a danger to the Russian people as even as he called the diaspora home, he and the Duma made them register if they had dual citizenship and then a year later declared a dual citizen must pay a tax to maintain their duality. Needless to say, these people were dependent on Russia for their day to day lives and they more than likely denounced the second country of citizenship as the tax was out of their reach.

In that, understand, it is a form of racism. If Russian is the only real race tolerated within it's sovereign borders, there is every reason to be concerned for anyone that does not meet the description. That would include businessmen from other countries, especially The West. Spies, all those OTHERS are nothing short of spies.

The USA, NATO and the West in general need to be prepared for a full array of nuclear capacity in a first strike opportunity. They need to be prepared for aggression beyond the battlefield. The battlefield of conventional weapons belonging to Ukraine does not have the capacity of Russia and while The West is counting bodies and holding Russia responsible there is the possibility of of First Strikes coming through the air from other countries allied with Putin.

The Russia military recently slaughtered a lesser country into submission. It was all practice for what is to come with Ukraine. There won't be anything nice or CIVILIZED about the Russia advance against Ukraine. There will be brutal force as that brought into Kazakhstan (click here). The Russian military is crude. They are not good soldiers, but, they are killers.

So, with that, I hate every minute that goes by knowing that Putin is not a good and decent man, but, an egotistically driven man scared of his own fate should the majority of Russian people finally put together a democracy.

Just to be clear, the red, white and blue flag of the current Russia is taken from the former empire after the Soviet Union fell.

Keep talking to the "Free Russia" people.

Moscow - Russia’s Foreign Ministry (click here) on Sunday rejected a British claim that Russia was seeking to replace Ukraine’s government with a pro-Moscow administration, and that former Ukrainian lawmaker Yevheniy Murayev was being considered as a potential candidate.

Britain’s Foreign Office on Saturday also named several other Ukrainian politicians it said had links with Russian intelligence services, along with Murayev who is the leader of a small party that has no seats in parliament.

Those politicians include Mykola Azarov, a former prime minister under Viktor Yanukovych, the Ukrainian president ousted in a 2014 uprising, and Yanukovych’s former chief of staff, Andriy Kluyev.

“Some of these have contact with Russian intelligence officers currently involved in the planning for an attack on Ukraine,” the Foreign Office said....

Russia has destroyed it's own economy. (click here) It has been only four short years since it reformed it's pension system and Russia can no longer survive in a failing domestic economy.

Until 2005, the life expectancy of the Russian people was below 70 years of age. That is why their pension system existed for younger people. The Russian Duma literally woke up one morning and decided, "Today is the day the Russian people will no longer receive their pensions." So, when Putin starts crying about living standards of Russians, he needs to look at the cause domestically before demanding relationships with other countries.

Improving Russian citizens’ living standards (click here) is President Vladimir Putin’s biggest concern right now, he told CNBC on Wednesday, offering a rare insight into the preoccupations of one of the world’s most powerful leaders.

“Our main problem, our main issue and goal is to increase the revenues of our citizens,” Putin told CNBC’s Hadley Gamble on Wednesday. His answer came after being asked what his greatest concern was today, be it inflation, stagflation or the gas crisis in Europe or tension in the South China Sea.

“This is our main challenge ... we need to ensure economic growth and to increase its quality. These are our long-term tasks,” he said.

Putin added that the government was “going to improve the social situation to increase the revenues of our citizens and to deal with the second very important task is the demographic situation. And it entails a lot of social issues, healthcare, education, supporting families with children.”...

The longevity chart below is before the global pandemic. (click here) Russia is still far behind it's peers in longevity. The Russian people are absolutely correct in their dismay of their leaders. They don't receive the same hospital care as their leaders. Putin had an exclusive hospital built for Russian leadership (click here). I have absolutely no doubt this elite hospital falls far from Western standards, but, that only validates the fact that Russia is not a First World country.

Russian leadership anywhere in the world is not an improvement.

Stop validating these claims as if they have brevity to the 2020 elections. STOP. Call Trump what he is, a liar capable of vast corruption of the USA.

In response to President Joe Biden’s speech marking the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Donald Trump issued a series of statements containing false and misleading claims about the 2020 presidential election results.

The former president has repeatedly promoted baseless claims about voting in the battleground state of Georgia, and in January 2021 he attempted to persuade election officials there to recalculate the state’s vote in his favor. Now, he claims ballots were sold there for $10.

“Where did all those votes show up from in Georgia, where it was just revealed they sold ballots for $10 a piece,” Trump said in a statement, which was shared to Twitter on Jan. 6 by his spokesperson Liz Harrington in a tweet that accumulated more than 4,000 interactions in a day.

"...we need Putin because of Trump..."

This is the impossible international relationships with allies that the Biden administration needs to scale. This is a German general's take on respect for Putin. Since making this statement he has resigned.

Either the USA is a banana republic or not? If not then stop electing these bozos. If this mess continues, the world is going to want the USA to consider denuclearization to protect the world and USA citizens.

There is a real cost to pay everytime a populous person is elected to a seat of power in the USA. REAL COSTS THAT ARE NOT MEASURABLE BY THE USA DOLLAR.

The GOP is creating an alternate reality. The testing in the city of Washington, DC has been consistent. There is no depravation in the country's capitol.

COVID - 19 surveillance for Washington, DC (click here)
The only metric that does not show up above is the total number of deaths, which is 1,237.

To begin, the people that live and work in the city of Washington, DC should have the right to protect themselves from any mass spreading event, including the activities at the US Capitol.

No member of the GOP has the right to create a mass spreading event as they state they will conduct in the video below. This is grandstanding in order to create their own and alternate reality for political purposes. This is a complaint by the GOP that benefits their politics. They probably didn't like being exposed by the vote regarding elections reform to remove corruption so they have to create their own reality in order to complain about Democrats.

I am an ordinary person, living an ordinary life and I have never had a problem getting tested when I wanted to or receiving a vaccination when they were available. The Republicans are making a mountain out of a mole hill because it suits their politics.

When the Intelligence Committee in the House meets and the GOP shows up without proper clearance, the Capitol Police will have to be standing at the door when they don't meet requirements to enter the room to remove them from the disorder they seek to create. Some of our Congresspersons are older and should not be exposed to this danger. Just that simple. Disregarding THEIR RIGHT to be safe is a huge ethics violation when the final result of exposure could be death.

This is the US House. This is the seat of govenrnment for this country. We elect people to do the work of the federal government and the intelligence committee is a very important function of government to protect and defend the USA Constitution. I expect the people I elected to be exemplary in their demeanor and carry out safety standards necessary to protect the people that serve. Being tested before a committee meeting is good practice.

The GOP in resisting the standards of safety regarding the spreading of COVID-19 and it's variants, further degrades the high standards the country needs to witness to be protected in their own lives. The GOP is a very poor example to their constituents and they need to be removed from their seats of power if they WON'T, not can't, comply with medical standards put forth by Dr. Fauci, the NIH and the CDC. We have these NECESSARY institutions to safeguard the people. This is our government and we expect the members of it to demonstrate the high standards set by the government agencies carrying out good practice.

Greg Abbot is scapegoating illegal aliens for all the violence in Texas. That is not the case. That is hatred of the people most in need.

By Madlin Merkelberg

U.S. Rep. Joaquín Castro (click here) said at a news conference on Monday that most people in Texas are opposed to constructing a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“Our country, since its founding, has become the most prosperous and powerful nation on earth without any wall,” Castro, D-San Antonio, said. “That’s why I believe most of the American people and most people in my home state of Texas disagree with the president building a wall across our border.”

Castro offered this claim about Texans while discussing legislation he sponsored, approved by the House on Tuesday, that would block President Donald Trump’s emergency order aimed at securing funding for his border wall.

It’s no surprise that the Democratic-controlled House opposes Trump’s plan to build a wall, but is Castro right? Do Texans also oppose a wall?

Polls show Texans divided on the wall

Castro spokeswoman Jamie Geller said the congressman’s claim was based on an April 2018 poll published by Quinnipiac University which reported that 53 percent of respondents surveyed opposed construction of a wall, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points....

There is every reason to believe the border between the USA and Texas is once again an election issue. What is overlooked is the opportunistic income derived by the Republican right wing.

...But the nonprofit, (click here) the authorities determined, paid Kolfage an initial salary of $100,000 in February 2019, followed by monthly payments of $20,000. All told, Kolfage received $350,000 in compensation he spent on personal expenses, including boat payments, home renovations and a SUV. The nonprofit also paid for hundreds of thousands of dollars of personal expenses for Bannon, Badolato and Shea. To hide these transfers, the four defendants allegedly funneled money through another nonprofit, a for-profit shell company under Kolfage’s control and accounts controlled by unnamed associates using “fake invoices,” according to the indictment.

The defendants stand accused of lying to obtain money using electronic communications (wire fraud) and the U.S. Postal Service (mail fraud). They also stand accused of money laundering, that is transferring funds to conceal criminal activity. Strauss brought the charges because at least some of the actions occurred in New York....

After these charges were filed, Trump pardoned the fraudsters (click here). The political right wing does not believe in the USA Constitution or justice. They believe in blatant power to get away with the crimes they commit to hoard money, hard earned American money.

Those crossing the US - Mexico border are not bringing guns with them. Quite the contrary, Americans take guns to Mexico for a profit.

...There were 3,683 gun-related deaths in Texas in 2019. (click here)

In 2018, 64% of all Texas suicides were by firearm.

In 2018, nearly 73% of veteran suicides in Texas were by firearm according to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

In 2018, 174 women in Texas were killed by a male intimate partner—59% of those murders were by firearm.

Women in Texas are 24% more likely to be murdered with a gun than women in other states.

In 2019, at least 32 Texan children ages 0-17 died in unintentional shootings.

Gun violence in Texas costs $16.6 billion per year....

Left is the intentional homicide rate (click here) per 100,000 persons. Texas carried 8.8 percent of total intentional homicides in the USA in 2020. These are FBI statistics.

New Jersey has the densest population in the entire country and it is among the lowest intentional homicide statistics with tough gun laws. The gun laws work to protect innocent Americans. New Jersey has big ports, too. It isn't ab out the incidence of violence, it is about THE AVAILABILITY of the OPPORTUNITY for violence.

The issue is not the border wall in the incidence of violent crime, otherwise, why does Louisiana have the highest intentional homicide rate in the USA?

One former Michigan governor (click here) says another former governor should no longer face criminal charges related to the Flint water crisis.

In an opinion piece penned for The Detroit News, John Engler, who served as governor from 1991 until 2002, and former Lt. Gov. Dick Posthumus make the case for dropping two counts of willful neglect of duty against former Gov. Rick Snyder.

The misdemeanor charges against Snyder are pending in Genesee District Court but the case has been slow to develop since the indictments were issued by a one-man grand jury nearly a year ago....

Snyder's defense is based on technicality and not the facts that caused the poisoning and subsequent deaths and maiming of children.

Judge Elizabeth A. Kelly (click here) hears arguments on the proposed amended protective order

Prosecutors in the Flint water investigation (click here) must stop using certain documents seized from state offices until an independent team reviews them for any violation of attorney-client privilege.

Genesee County Judge Elizabeth Kelly on Friday turned down a request to reconsider and change her Nov. 19 order against the attorney general’s office.

The dispute over documents has been a key issue since nine people, including former Gov. Rick Snyder, were charged a year ago with crimes related to lead-tainted water in Flint and Legionnaires’ disease.

State investigators armed with search warrants were accused of sweeping up documents that included confidential communications between lawyers and Snyder administration officials
who were being sued in separate proceedings for alleged acts in Flint....

Tell it like it is TYT.

Here we go. The "Trump Syndrome of Election Fraud." It is a mental health issue to demand that a highly illegal and corrupt method to elections is the correct path. It is nothing, but, (as Mitch McConnell  would say) a power grab.

Antisocial personality disorder, (click here) sometimes called sociopathy, is a mental disorder in which a person consistently shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others. People with antisocial personality disorder tend to antagonize, manipulate or treat others harshly or with callous indifference. They show no guilt or remorse for their behavior....

What is the mentally healthy approach, ie: Hillary Clinton? Many states, but not all, have automatic recounts based in statistical practices that bring brevity to the idea the "system" is wrong. When the statistical proof is not there, no recount should occur.

Sportsmanship (click here) comes in many forms and helps make competitive games fun and enjoyable. Being a good sport fosters good habits and positive life skills both in and out of sports games, and is an important life skill for people of all ages....

All the false claims of election inaccuracy that are not supported by a mathematical reality is minimally an ethics violation if not a criminal element.

The "Rand Paul" Directive is alive and well.

In election recruitment, the Democrats are recruited with works of blazing a path forward for their hopes with a request for donations. However, the Right Wing Media is asking for subscribers based in propaganda. This is the case as recently as today.

This is an ad from "The Epoch Times Truth and Tradition." (click here) I especially love the directive that friends read any article for free. It begs a reader to issue a friend email to receive all the information without the cost of the publication.

But, that said, there are sincerely sane and reasoning people that read this garbage and believe it.

VAERS transparency is vital to effectively finding side effects. It invites exploitation because of it's transparent nature, but, until those reports are verified and/or rejected there is no way of knowing if the reports are falsified.

Imagine if this was all hush, hush, what the right wing media would be saying?

August 25, 2021

Chances are (click here) you may not be not familiar with the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS. Co-managed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, VAERS was established in 1990 to detect possible safety problems with vaccines.

Unfortunately, the anti-vaccine movement has used this once-obscure database to spread misinformation about the COVID-19 vaccine.

VAERS is ripe for exploitation because it relies on unverified self-reports of side effects. Anyone who received a vaccine can submit a report. And because this information is publicly available, misinterpretations of its data has been used to amplify COVID-19 misinformation through dubious social media channels and mass media, including one of the most popular shows on cable news....

VAERS is a source of the political populous culture in the USA.

Oh the Rand Paul Directive? Say stupid and outrageous things to invite at least one additional vote and get paid for it with donations and call it freedom of speech.

Clue: This is not freedom of speech. From an elected official this is CORRUPTION!

Minimally this is an ethics violation and Rand Paul should be suffering the consequences along with his peers.

This is more than interesting and adds a great deal of concern about terrorist networks and their capacity.

In a new intelligence assessment, (click here) the CIA has ruled out that the mysterious symptoms known as Havana Syndrome are the result of a sustained global campaign by a hostile power aimed at hundreds of U.S. diplomats and spies, six people briefed on the matter told NBC News.

In about two dozen cases, the agency cannot rule out foreign involvement, including many of the cases that originated at the U.S. Embassy in Havana beginning in 2016. Another group of cases is considered unresolved. But in hundreds of other cases of possible symptoms, the agency has found plausible alternative explanations, the sources said.

The CIA declined to comment.

This finding reopens the relationship with Cuba. There has to be a solution to the danger no matter where diplomats live, work and meet. Every country in the world, which brings the United Nations into focus, should be interested in this finding and move to find the source of this hostility.

I am concerned there is  greater and greater insult not only to sovereign countries and their ability to carry out diplomatic relations moving toward peace, but, also I am convinced the invasion of fraudulent storylines leading to the taking of money into the population of the USA is organized crime.

I think it would be foolish not to see this as a danger of the two which leads to the funding for terrorists. When I first heard about the epidemic of money gathering in the USA I never labeled it as weak American senior citizens with missing pieces in their love relationship. I saw it as a weakness in our national security. Those monies are going to unknown ventures in the millions of dollars. I am more than convinced this is organized crime. I remind Hezbollah has a foothold in Venezuela.

So, I hope the Biden administration will look at the relationshiop with Cuba once again and the State Department return to dialogues that can lead to more peace with our near shore neighbors.

This finding by the CIA is not a minor issue. This is enormous. Over the decdes since September 11, 2001, the banking industry has diligently carried out tighter and tighter regulations to end the flow of money to terrorists and their networks. They aren't going away. Those terrorists and their networks are mired in religious fervor, so it is only reasonable to expect them to come up with methods of funding. I think the gutting of retirements, savings and loans are a source of terrorist income. I also believe those practicing these dynamics are freelancers, which makes sense for individual violence such as suicide bombers. When the freelancers need advise and/or false checks to pass through electronic means a wider network requires payment for their services.

This finding by the CIA opens up an entirely new front that threatens sovereign powers and their efforts to end terrorist threats and networks. I might add when democratic principles are applied to this dynamic, it is far more safe for any country regardless of governance type to allow demonstrations and protests to mitigate complaints rather than oppress them.

If I could offer advice, I would suggest peace should take a very high priority to eliminate the directives of terrorists and their very invasive ability. The money taking is a lesson in the invasiveness of such dynamics. If an entire section of a society's financial stability can be destroyed, that is a substantial gain for terrorist networks.

What I like about the Biden news conference…

…is that he doesn’t dodge one question. He takes them on with sincerity and is willing to spend time with them. He should not apologize for being honest or thorough. I like it.

Competency. You’ve got to be joking. Maybe asking Dr. Fauci if bleach injection is a good idea would show greater competency to the constituents, huh?

I am getting the feeling being Pro-Middle Class is too far to the left? Really?

No one has asked about the government scientists that had their labs and offices shuttered and the huge uncertainty of the files and records that were destroyed. Why is that not important? Decades of sound work trashed and ended. No one cares that billions of tax dollars spent on research for policy may have been destroyed? So, as long as the space program looks good everything is right with science in the USA, right? Negligent. The press is negligent In exposing the damage done to this country by the previous administration. Why? All this time with a news conference and no one gives a damn about the raids on America’s scientists and their work. Amazing.

The current polling shows a steady trend down of disapproval of President Biden. As he gets out to talk to the people with safety regarding the virus, that disapproval will continue to decline.

San Jose -Nearly 50 San Jose patrol officers have COVID infections, (click here) prompting the police department to ask officers from other divisions to fill in for them, with the police chief warning a department-wide redeployment could follow if the situation doesn’t improve.

Police officers were informed of the fill-in plan late Saturday night by Chief Anthony Mata in an email obtained by this news organization, outlining how patrols will have to be bolstered by voluntary overtime shifts at least through Sunday.

The police department on Tuesday disclosed that 52 officers are currently sidelined by COVID-19, for which omicron has become the dominant variant with three-fold infectiousness compared to previous incarnations, though it has produced less severe illness.

Of those infected officers, 45 are assigned to patrol. That has left the department hustling to meet its minimum patrol staffing level of 525 officers, which already accounts for nearly half of SJPD’s sworn staff....

I ordered my COVID self test online without a glitch.🙂

Washington - The chief executives of major U.S. passenger and cargo carriers (click here) on Monday warned of an impending "catastrophic" aviation crisis in less than 36 hours, when AT&T (T.N) and Verizon (VZ.N) are set to deploy new 5G service.

The airlines warned the new C-Band 5G service set to begin on Wednesday could render a significant number of widebody aircraft unusable, "could potentially strand tens of thousands of Americans overseas" and cause "chaos" for U.S. flights...

As wireless giants (click here) like AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile continue to push forward with rollouts of 5G technology, the U.S. government is making more wireless spectrum available for the effort.

The White House and the Department of Defense said Monday that 100 megahertz of mid-band spectrum will be made auctioned off for commercial 5G deployment. The most active user of mid-band spectrum is the U.S. military, which puts it to work on radar systems, air-traffic technology and other purposes.

The Federal Communications Commission will administer the auction.

A statement from the White House said the move will “improve every industry and the lives of all Americans.” The auction is planned for December 2021, with companies being able to start using the spectrum in 2022....

Will nuclear power ever be the perfect Climate Crisis fuel?

 NO!

One algorithm (click here) that lets a robot manipulate a Rubik's Cube used as much energy as 3 nuclear plants produce in an hour.

Let's get this right. That is steam. Nuclear power plants have no or little greenhouse gas emissions. But, they have a significant heat budget in producing energy.

When nuclear power plants were first developed their "heat transfer" was about keeping the cores cool (click here).

We know nuclear power plants produce a great deal of heat that is expelled into a water pool near the plant. But, they also produce a great deal of heat into the air. These heat transfers have never been measured that I am aware of and they need to be examined for the amount of heat they are producing.

The greenhouse gases are still the primary focus. If we remove those gases from the troposphere and lower the amount of INSULATING layers from Earth, these power plants would be a far less threat to Earth's climate than they are today. Until Earth's troposphere has vastly reduced greenhouse gases in it's content, these plants are adding to the heat budget of Earth, both in the cooling water pools and the steam that is emitted.

So, are nuclear power plants the best alternative to fossil fuel enegy? No. But, they don't produce greenhouse gases and that is everything at this point. Nuclear power plants really do need to be examined to the heat they produce both in the water and the atmosphere. We are measuring Earth's viability of life based on degrees celcius increase. The current standard is to remain below 2 degrees celcius and that is a prudent goal. But, to think because nuclear power doesn't produce greenhouse gases and that should solve all problems is very wrong. Nuclear power plants are a problem on many fronts and HEAT TRANSFER INTO EARTH'S WATERS AND CLIMATE is one of the problems nuclear causes for Earth.

Tonga

The people of Tonga are safe within their homes where no ash exists. It will be a difficult rescue as helicopters will raise too much ash and the people can inhale it. Food drops are necessary as the USA did in Afghanistan in 2001. The ash is also in the water. There may be water pipes the still carry potable water to homes and buildings.

The ocean water surrounding the island need to be tested for Ph levels at the periphery to know the content of the water to send in boats. Slow approach is best to prevent mixing. The ash in time will fall to the bottom of the water column.

There is few good ways to clear the ash. Construction equipment to lift the ash and dump truck to carry it. The first storm that comes with create thick cement like liquid that can be moved with graders. Much will wash into drainage systems that will cause a problem.

There is a lot of it. This is not the first time villages have cleared ash from any habitat areas. My greatest sympathies to Tonga for any losses they have sustained.
