Republicans thought they owned corporate businesses. I would seem as though that is a well rehearsed myth.

Maybe, just maybe, the CEOs are blue-blooded American patriots and love the US Constitution. It is the only one of it's kind, which provides specific benefits to private industry. When a private company presents a hazard to citizens in the way of Environmental Justice, the government needs to exert governance. But, for the most part, corporations like being based in the USA.

I think this is a real opportunity for both Corporate America and the people of this great country. They might be coming together rather than taking up opposite corners.

More than 100 corporate executives and leaders (click here) gathered on a Zoom call Saturday to discuss ways to combat controversial voting bills being considered in states across the country that would restrict voting access, per the Washington Post.

Why it matters: American corporations flexed their advocacy muscles earlier this month when more than 100 companies signaled their opposition to Georgia's new voting law, inciting the wrath of GOP leaders, including former President Donald Trump and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell....

There has been a little bit of an uptick recently about geoengineering. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

Every time this topic comes up all one has to say is, "Unintended Consequences." Earth is still being studied. There are no guarantees, especially, now that there are warming effects that completely change Earth's physics.

Geoengineering ideas — tinkering with the climate (click here) to delay or halt the worst effects of global warming — have been around for decades. Few such ideas have progressed past the thought experiment stage, due in part to concerns that the cure could be worse than the disease. But as dire warnings about climate change’s impacts increasingly dominate the news, geoengineering may once again be getting a closer look.

“We should investigate geoengineering in case we can’t change our behaviors fast enough to ward off the worst of climate change,” Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang notes on his campaign website. Yang’s campaign, alone among the candidates, proposes funding large-scale government research into massive climate intervention projects such as giant solar radiation-reflecting space mirrors or seeding the ocean with iron to promote blooms of carbon-sequestering algae.

Not everyone is sure this is a good idea. When it comes to ocean seeding, for example, “there is considerable uncertainty and disagreement … whether this would do more harm than good,” says David Karl, an oceanographer at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Vast algal blooms could alter the geochemistry of the deep ocean, he adds. “It is with great caution that anyone should be deliberating altering the nutrient balance of the sea for any reason.” Similarly, proposals to tinker with incoming solar radiation to cool the planet might significantly shift weather patterns and negatively affect crops....

This article in "Wired" last year is simply over the top irresponsible. If "Wired" wants to be a leader on climate, then preserve habitat. The only time this should be tried is when the last Earthling is leaving for "Earth II" in a different solar system.

Altering Earth’s geophysical environment is a moon shot (click here)—and it will be the only way to reverse the damage done. It’s time to take it more seriously.

Will the real Bill and Melinda Gates please stand up. Oh, they are standing up.

They weren't happy with the lack of leadership by the USA in the global pandemic. Bill Gates and his lovely wife Melinda, a leader in her own right, may very well be inspiring greater responsibility in corporate leadership.

Speaking at the Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy, (click here) the couple discussed plans to make sure that Covid-19 treatments and vaccines don’t just go to the highest-bidding nations but are distributed equitably.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage the globe, Bill and Melinda Gates have been on the forefront of coordinating the search for effective prevention and treatment of the disease. The couple, who has spent years fighting against infectious diseases like polio, is critical of the U.S. response to Covid-19–its testing and contact-tracing efforts lag behind countries like Germany. “Usually the United States plays a role in global problem-solving, so rather than withdrawing from WHO, they’d be involved, collaborating with other countries, not just trying to cast blame. It’s a tricky situation, where the U.S. sort of turned inward on this one,” Bill Gates said at the ninth annual and first virtual Forbes 400 Summit on Philanthropy last Thursday....

This is not unusal within the practice by scientists.

I am a biologist among other credentials, past and present, but, I have been sitting at computers day after day and week after week to bring home the urgency of the climate crisis since 2004. I was an activist longer than that. But, my efforts are volunteer because no one could afford to pay me for what I do.

This climate crisis is real. Stop listening to right wing media that pollutes the airwaves with lies, half-truths, and propaganda. These people are heroes. They are putting their lives on the line to end the climate crisis. Where is everyone else?

A darling crop of wealthy activists are pouring their own money and energy into saving our endangered seas.

Like a real-world version (click here) of The Avengers or Justice League, an international group of unlikely activists, some of them billionaires, have banded together to save our imperiled seas, which, by all accounts, are deteriorating at an increasingly alarming pace. Calling themselves the Philanthropic Ocean Research Vessel Operators—at least until they come up with a catchier name—they’re not waiting for governments to take action. Instead, they have applied their business know-how to studying the seas and devising conservation projects to combat the ravages of climate change, over-fishing and the wholesale dumping of plastic....

Bill Gates, in the year 2021, is turning out to be a very interesting conservationist.

In good humor, I think Bill and Malinda Gates would love that depiction of them. As far as the land purchase in Washington State, Microsoft has three corporate locations in Washington. That company has a office or corporate interest building in nearly the entire country (click here).

I have been following his reports in the media these last few months. He is practically declaring himself the voice of reason on climate. These purchases of farm land are less surprising the more I realize he is on a glide path for leadership in Corporate America to end GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions.

Not to leave out Amazon. Jeff Bezos is making a concerted effort to bring the carbon footprint of his operations to zero. (I know there is a dispute with the unionization of Amazon. That doesn't mean the company is not making major strides elsewhere.).

Late last year, Eric O’Keefe was researching a mysterious recent purchase (click here) of 14,500 acres of prime Washington state farmland. His magazine, The Land Report, tracks major land transactions and produces an annual list of the 100 biggest US landowners.

Sales of more than a thousand acres are “blue-moon events,” O’Keefe noted, so this one stood out. And Eastern Washington has some of the richest, most expensive farmland in the country. But the purchaser of record was a small, obscure company in Louisiana.

“That immediately set off alarm bells,” O’Keefe says.

He assigned his research team to dig a little deeper. Soon they came back with the answer: The Louisiana company was acting on behalf of Cascade Investment LLC, the secretive investment firm that manages most of the huge fortune belonging to Bill Gates....

Alexei Navalny, the president of free Russia, is in a medical unit in Russia for lung disease.

April 6, 2021

Jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny (click here) has said he has a persistent cough and temperature, and that there have been cases of tuberculosis in his prison.

Meanwhile, the pro-Kremlin newspaper Izvestia said Navalny, 44, had been transferred to a medical unit with symptoms of a respiratory illness.

Navalny is being held at a penal colony to serve a sentence for embezzlement.

Several people were held outside the jail during a protest against his treatment. He is on hunger strike.

A group of his supporters known as the Alliance of Doctors had gathered at the entrance....

His personnel physicians have been arrested for no reason at all. The prison where Alexei Navalny was kept has a problem with tuberculosis. That may be what he has. That is barbaric treatment of prisoners. The USA is turned upside down with COVID-19 in their prisons and Russian prisons are still having a problem with TB.

There is a tuberculin vaccine that also reduces the risk of COVID-19.

The WHO and the United Nations Agreement on International Vaccine Insititute (click here) should be demanding every Russian prisoner to be vaccinated even though Russia is not a signatory. It is wrong for Russia to ignore this international program.

On one hand Russia wants to sell it's vaccine for profit and on the other hand, it deprives it's own people of the benefit.

November 20, 2020

A widely used tuberculosis vaccine (click here) is associated with reduced likelihood of contracting COVID-19 (coronavirus), according to a new study by Cedars-Sinai. The findings raise the possibility that a vaccine already approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration may help prevent coronavirus infections or reduce severity of the disease.

The vaccine, known as Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), was developed between1908 and 1921 and is administered to more than 100 million children around the world every year. In the U.S., it is FDA-approved as a drug to treat bladder cancer and as a vaccine for people at high risk of contracting TB. The BCG vaccine is currently being tested in multiple clinical trials worldwide for effectiveness against COVID-19.

In the new study, published online Nov. 19 in The Journal of Clinical Investigation, investigators tested the blood of more than 6,000 healthcare workers in the Cedars-Sinai Health System for evidence of antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, and also asked them about their medical and vaccination histories.

They found that workers who had received BCG vaccinations in the past—nearly 30% of those studied—were significantly less likely to test positive for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in their blood or to report having had infections with coronavirus or coronavirus-associated symptoms over the prior six months than those who had not received BCG. These effects were not related to whether workers had received meningococcal, pneumococcal or influenza vaccinations....

Alexei Navalny's hospitalization is curious. Normally, TB can be treated with pills taken by mouth. I am curious about the precautions. Perhaps Putin is worried about his former political opponent.

Do we have to have 737s? Boeing is a USA jet manufacturer. We need to look at this and be sure people are safe.

April 9, 2021
By Chris Isidore, Gregory Wallace and Pete Muntean,

Boeing announced a new problem (click here) with the troubled 737 Max -- this time, the issue is with its electrical system.

"Boeing has recommended to 16 customers that they address a potential electrical issue in a specific group of 737 Max airplanes prior to further operations," the company said.

Airlines need to verify that one of the components of the plane's electrical system is sufficiently grounded, Boeing stated. The company said it is working with the US Federal Aviation Administration to address the problem.

All of the planes were grounded for 20 months worldwide from March 2019 through November of 2020 following two fatal crashes that killed 346 people. Although the FAA has approved the fixes that Boeing made to the malfunctioning safety system blamed for the crashes, several other countries, including China, have yet to clear the plane to fly again. The grounding cost Boeing more than $20 billion....

Perhaps a discount program can be set up with Boeing whereby the old 737s are returned for scrap metal and discounted 787s are provided to replace them. The stock prices are doing okay. On one hand, I thought to nationalize the company to resolve this issue, but, people have enough confidence in Boeing as a company to maintain good stock prices. I think the American government needs to help Boeing end this nightmare.

Packages containing 73 pounds of methamphetamine
seized by CBP officers at Eagle Pass Port of Entry.

Eagle Pass, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), (click here) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry seized narcotics worth over $1.8 million in two separate unrelated enforcement actions.

“In an effort to secure our nation’s borders, as these narcotics seizures clearly illustrate, CBP has implemented enforcement strategies that have furthered the disruption of dangerous drugs from entering the country,” said Port Director Paul Del Rincon, Eagle Pass Port of Entry.

The first enforcement action occurred on Monday, April 5, at the Eagle Pass International Bridge after a CBP officer referred a 2005 Ford Ranger for a secondary inspection. The vehicle was driven by a 21-year-old male United States citizen who applied for entry into the United States from Mexico. Following a non-intrusive imaging system inspection, CBP officers discovered a total of 24 packages containing 73.7 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the tires of the vehicle.

The second seizure occurred on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Camino Real International Bridge II after a CBP officer referred a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado for a secondary inspection. The vehicle was driven by a 60-year-old male Mexican citizen who applied for entry into the United States from Mexico. Following a canine and non-intrusive imaging system inspection, CBP officers discovered a total of 17 packages containing 17.9 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within two ice chests inside the vehicle.

Both seizures have a combined estimated street value of $1,832,463....

Brownsville, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers (click here) at the Brownsville Port of Entry intercepted narcotics in two separate enforcement actions that have a combined estimated street value of $132,252.

“Our officers remain vigilant to make every inspection count which led to these seizures and kept these drugs from reaching our streets,” said Acting Port Director Bob Parker, Brownsville Port of Entry.

The first seizure took place on Wednesday, Mar. 31, at the Veterans International Bridge when a 19-year-old male United States citizen from Brownsville, Texas, applied for entry into the United States driving a 1998 Jeep.  The vehicle was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection.  In secondary, CBP officers discovered five packages hidden within the 1998 Jeep.  CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 11.37 pounds of alleged cocaine.

The second seizure took place on Friday, Apr. 2, at the Gateway International Bridge when an 18-year-old female United States citizen from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, applied for entry into the United States as a pedestrian.  The traveler was referred to CBP secondary for further examination after a primary inspection.  While in the secondary inspection area, CBP officers discovered three packages hidden under the woman’s clothing.  CBP officers removed the packages, which contained a total of 2.22 pounds of alleged methamphetamine.

The estimated street value of the narcotics from the seizures is approximately $87,720 and $44,532 respectively....

The problem, Attorney General Nessel, is that the man most responsible gets the least of the charges.

Our justice system needs to change to realize the most responsible at the top of the crime are supposed to be receiving the longest sentence and the highest fines. That isn't happening here. That is simply wrong. Snyder needs to be held to the highest possible crime. There are people dead. There are children damaged and he is getting away with it. That is not okay.

Flint - The Flint water case (click here) is moving forward even as former Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder and his team continue to insist the case should be dropped.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel hasn’t said much about the case, the investigation, or Snyder himself -- but in a new interview, she is shedding light on those topics.

She spoke with Local 4′s consumer investigator Hank Winchester. She was very cautious about talking about the criminal case.

Nessel said she’s focused on Flint and getting the settlement money to those who need it most. More than $600 million will go directly to those impacted by the water crisis, especially the children.

My sincerest sympathies to the British Royal Family.

Especially, Queen Elizabeth II. I am quite certain he was special to the people of Great Britain.

The USA does not need sexually abusive men that also practice pedophilia in office.

Every woman in the country should be angry and demanding Matt Gaetz resignation from office. This is not a partisan issue. Powerful men are used to getting their way and demanding the public in general to look the other way.

Gaetz is stating he is a victim of extortion. Really? He was human trafficking a 17 year old female and he was extorted. Right. Why didn't he go to the FBI? If he is a target of political rhetoric why isn't he fighting back in court? Nothing Gaetz has any validity in the truth. He is trying to use public and political opinion to get away with crime. This has to stop and stop now.

I don't want to see a war among Democrats, the country needs them. But, this is ridiculous.

West Virginia is the state of Robert C. Byrd, the USA Senator that voted against the Iraq War. I don't understand Mansion at all. What kind of kickbacks is he getting from his cronies?

I believe his seat is up in 2022. Who do the Democrats have to run against him in the primary? The people of West Virginia, no different than Kentucky, are lied to on a continuous basis about the coal industry. It is time an honest candidate for US Senate in West Virginia picks up the Byrd mantle and tells the people of West Virginia the truth.

To oppose the broad changes this country needs after an insurrection is Un-American. Just that simple. I don't know what Manchin's gig is, but, it isn't the protection of our democracy if he is handing power to Mitch McConnell. He needs to get his priorities straight or GET OUT!

Joe Manchin (click here) thinks President Donald Trump abused his power and voted to remove him from office. But he also thinks Trump can still be a “tremendous president” and is eager to reconcile.

Senate Democrats need all 50 members of their caucus (click here) to band together to pass bills that don’t have any GOP support. So, in theory at least, any senator could constantly force the party to bend to their will.

In reality, though, only Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia is using that power. He’s already blocked President Biden’s nominee to run the White House Office of Management and Budget, and he forced congressional Democrats to make changes to the economic stimulus bill before he would provide his needed “yea” vote. Manchin is also opposing proposals embraced by the Biden administration and most congressional Democrats to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour and to mandate background checks for nearly all gun sales....

American schools, both private and public, need to test honestly at years end.

April 6, 2021
By Jennifer Chambers

Federal education officials (click here) have denied Michigan's request to cancel state assessments this school year, clearing the way for the year-end tests to begin next week and leaving some districts scrambling to figure out logistics for giving the exams amid COVID-related building closures.

The U.S. Department of Education issued its decision Tuesday, refusing to waive the federal requirement to administer the state summative assessments like the M-STEP....

The US Department of Education, under the Biden presidency, needs to receive HONEST end of year scores. We have to know where we are in order to move forward. This was a national emergency in our schools and the first time the USA public school system was shut down nationwide.

In addition to year of end scores the US Department of Education should demand a reporting of when the school reopened, the number of students and teachers that contracted the virus after reopening and any and all deaths affiliated with the school system, including janitors, that occurred this past year.

All those statistics are important because it will give a picture of what actions mattered and what compromised the safety of our children.

And let's not forget spring break and the mass spreader event that brought disease to communities and universities.

DON'T FUDGE THE NUMBERS.

Detroit — Federal corruption prosecutors (click here) Wednesday charged a former assistant superintendent of West Bloomfield schools with obstructing a grand jury investigation for allegedly lying to investigators and deleting emails.

The case against Deanna Barash, 46, is the latest case filed by public corruption prosecutors against a public school official since 14 school administrators and a contractor were convicted in a $2.7 million bribery and kickback scheme involving Detroit Public Schools several years ago.

A federal court filing provides minimal details of the corruption investigation but accuses the assistant superintendent of obstructing an unspecified investigation from May 2018 through Dec. 9, 2019.

The Detroit News learned the probe involves Barash's prior tenure at Northville Public Schools, where she worked as an assistant superintendent before being hired in West Bloomfield in 2017....

Corruption costs tax payers money, not only in prosecution when the governmetn officals are caught, but, in misdirected monies that belongs to taxpayers. The misdirected monies COST the people the real purpose of the money. They lose their achievements for the budgets they fund. Corruption must be stopped.

Case in point.

President Joe Biden (click here) in an impassioned speech on Wednesday framed infrastructure as a matter of national security, saying that China was outpacing the US as he excoriated Republicans who opposed his $2 trillion plan.

After months of Republicans saying Biden is too soft on Beijing, the president is flipping the script. Biden has effectively accused the GOP of aiding China by pushing against his infrastructure proposal, which Republicans have dismissed as too costly.

"My Republican friends ... many of them say it's too big ... They say, 'Why not just focus on traditional infrastructure?'" Biden said of the GOP response to his plan. "We are America. We don't just fix for today; we build for tomorrow."...

Oops. What was that? "Why not just focus on traditional infrastruture?" Really? That is called obstructionism. Where have we heard it before and for nearly two decades? Why are these bills coming from President Biden and the US House so outragiously high by imagination alone? Because for two decades, the GOP focused on TRADITIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE.

One question. Just one. Will traditional infrastructure end the climate crisis? To me it hasn't at all. Let's get on with the promise of the leadership of President Biden and some of the brave members of the US House and build back better so our children and grandchildren have their lives and hertiage secured.

There is every reason to mistrust the GOP. They earned that mistrust.

Washington - When a Republican lawmaker (click here) approached Representative Veronica Escobar, a Democrat, on the House floor recently with a routine request that she sign on to a resolution he was introducing, she initially refused.

Ms. Escobar personally liked the man, a fellow Texan, and she supported his bill. But she held the Republican, who had voted to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election just hours after rioters stormed the Capitol, partly responsible for the deadly attack and questioned whether she could work with him.

Moments after declining, however, Ms. Escobar had second thoughts.

“Go ahead and count me in,” Ms. Escobar recalled telling the man, whom she declined to identify in an interview. “But I just want you to know that what you all did — I haven’t gotten past it. And it was wrong, and it was terrible. And it’s not something that I think we should gloss over.”...

Start at the leadership and their embrace of extremism. That is simply bad for the country. Since when do we let Republicans get away with backing White Supremacy.

The extremism of the GOP to begin is completely unethical and that is where the GOP began to lose the country. There was a time in the USA when ethics meant something. The GOP DECIDED since ethics is not a legal problem it was unworthy of noticing. Ethics is where neighborhoods around the USA value their quality of life. "Hello, Neighbor," is a greeting not required by law. But, it makes inroads to people that live in each other, share property values, share public schools and work many times at the same place. "Hello, Neighbor," goes a long way and creates the idea of community.

The GOP decided quite some time ago that breaking the ethic rules in society. The idea military style weapons were allowed by the constitution, in general, began to take away the sense of "ethics" in communities. All of a sudden, "A good guy with a gun" was the way to go. To secure communities? No. To sell guns. "A good guy with a gun" is primarily a myth. We have seen good guys with guns stop some bad guys with a gun that went a killing spree, but, for the most part that is a myth and now the country is awash in dangerous weapons.

Look at the other wayward values of the GOP. The latest, "See if the government really cares about you," was the of the Trump White House. The Republican went right along with his idea of dismantlling government and empowering enemies to create a level playing field. Our deepest kept military secrets were an open book under Trump and why? Because he was scared skinny of war. He believed if every major power on the planet had the same information and weapons everything would negate themselves. WRONG!

China and Russia were absolutely gigling over the fact Trump was an idiot about national security as long as you blew sunshine up his butt. And where was the GOP? Were they seeing the infractions in Trump's activity as impeachable. Heck, no. They were out fund raising because the Democrats were playing dirty politics.

Trump was impeached not once, but, twice. TWICE. And where was the GOP, manipulating the public interest so they could keep votes in their column. Remember? The US House under Speaker Pelosi handed down "Article of Impeachment" and rather than grabbing the chance to reverse Trump's hold on any sort of power, and try him to remove him from office; Moscow Mitch withheld the Senate hearing. Why? Why would a US Senate majority leader that just witnessed an  insurrection of the US Capitol throw the impeachment trial to the next group of Senators? Why?

I will tell you why, because, Trump was guilty. Everyone knew it and people died. We witnessed his speeches and if anyone paid attention to Trump's relationship with the right wing vogters it was toxic and inspired violence against government. Moscow Mitch decided if the GOP waited until after Trump was out of office they could honestly say there was no way an ousted president could be impeached. It wasn't reasonable to do so and it was down right Un-American.

THAT IS THE ONLY REASON MOSCOW MITCH decided to postpone the US Senate trial of Trump, because it was AN EXCUSE to vote to leave Trump alone. McConnell did that. The leader of the US Senate majority at the time strategized to relieve Trump of any wrong doing to "save the party."

The GOP is "Party First, Country Second or Third depending what crony money is on the line."

They can't be trusted. The GOP has some of the most toxic members of the entire Congress. They hate. They hate others in Congress and they hate people that believe in justice rather than corruption. There are exceptions, but, they are becoming fewer and fewer.

The American people want their country back and they want the country they believe is the most benevolent and true to it's values of decency and honesty. You know, "Truth, Justice and the American Way." Only the truth can't be grown out of lies, the Justice is for all and the DOJ cannot be corrupt at all and do the president's bidding, especially among political opponents. And the American Way. Yeah. The American Way is about young people slinging guns into school? Children dying in their classrooms? Is the American Way about throwing ridiculous tax cuts at corporations so they can downsize and replace workers with mechanization and technology? Is the American Way incorporating racism as a norm in society?

That is the part that stops most Americans in their path. They remember a good wage. They remember hospitals with charity care without one doubt. They know that cutting edge education is the way of the future so long as it serves a good and moral purpose. The American Way allows different relgions to exist on opposite street corners where communities cross the street to say hello and attend festivals together. The American Way dispels fear and incorporates honesty and compassion. The American Way leaves a legacy of environmental safety, the beauty of nature and plenty of open spaces to the next generation and the generation after that. Nowhere in the American Dream does it say, throw greenhouse gases in the troposphere with abandon because everything scientists say is a lie.

The USA cares for each other and ensures every person has a fair shot and every child is valued. Sure that takes money, but, those values apply to everyone. If being a strong, independent person in this society sees a downfall as with the SARS-CoV-2 virus; that standard of compassion and belonging is vitally important.

Where are the real values in the USA? With the GOP? Or with Democrats that have kept the faith, unheld the USA Constitution and provided strength under a president that wanted to end the democracy and make himself king.

The GOP has earned mistrust and this Democratic Congress, in order to make all the necessary changes for the USA to recapture itself, just might have to go it alone. I have no problem with the Democrats taking a hard look at their peers. There is a lot to see.
