In a July 10 photo, dead carp float near the shore of the La Crosse Marsh near Myric Park, Wis. This summer's heat wave is taking its toll on fish in the Upper Midwest, where high water temperatures and low oxygen levels have combined to kill thousands of fish in Minnesota, the Dakotas and Wisconsin. (AP Photo/LaCrosse Tribune, Erik Daily)
Thousands of fish are dying in the Midwest (click title to entry - thank you) as the hot, dry summer dries up rivers and causes water temperatures to climb in some spots to nearly 100 degrees.
About 40,000 shovelnose sturgeon were killed in Iowa last week as water temperatures reached 97 degrees. Nebraska fishery officials said they've seen thousands of dead sturgeon, catfish, carp, and other species in the Lower Platte River, including the endangered pallid sturgeon. And biologists in Illinois said the hot weather has killed tens of thousands of large- and smallmouth bass and channel catfish and is threatening the population of the greater redhorse fish, a state-endangered species....
This is not about Muslims. It is about human beings exposed to the FACT there are too many guns in the USA. It just happens 'this time' it was a Mosque where people died. It was his focus of choice. 9mm pistols come in all sorts of confection. This is a 9mm 'designed' for concealed carry. According to its description it is also for those 'covert' missions, too. Whom in the USA citizenry is on a covert mission? The gun SALES persons cater to fantasy as well. Does the USA need weapons sold specifically designed for covert missions? I guess the gun makes the man. This is out of control. In case that covert gunman/woman is interested there is a variety of bullets available, including hollow tip. And best of all there are 'sights' which can be added to the gun so it is simple to hit the target exactly where intended. The Caracal F pistol offers the shooter the choice of a standard 3-dot or more interesting 2-dot combat sighting system. On a two-dot combat sight, the shooter places the front sight dot directly over the rear site. Simple. Simple. Wow. Simple. Okay, then.

...These things came together to creating a perfect storm that meant a huge loss. Now the question then is what did the president do to restoke the economy? And he passed an across the board tax cut that affected families that had children, that affected working families, it affected people across our economy with the idea that this tax cut and his economic policy would rebuild our economy...
This was April of 2004 and while Romney concedes 'historical events' effects the USA economy, he also states something far more profound.
...The United States has come back and is regrowing and we're creating jobs. The last half of the last year was a very strong period of economic growth particularly the last quarter. And the first quarter looks like another strong period. Records housing starts, record home ownership, job creation the last month over 300,00 thousand people every indication is that the economic policies adopted and pursued by this president are creating jobs at a very high pace...
The Republicans have no POLICY for a sustainable USA economy. They USE Bubble and Burst to placate the electorate. That is their policy. They played with the American Dream. They ultimately crashed the USA economy when bank CEOs were unable to find their own way out of their willingness to exploit the real estate bubble through private EQUITY sources.
The banks tried every aspect of private equity including other governments and other major corporations and billionaires. They could not find the money they needed to stop their implosion. That entire dynamic was compliments of the Republican economic strategy of Bubble and Bust.
The tax cuts Romney refers to in this You Tube report are the infamous Bush Tax Cuts.
The strategy is obvious, remove tax burden from the MIDDLE CLASS while providing the wealthy with everything they can dream of to facilitate an economy.
IT DIDN'T WORK. The Bush Tax Cuts caused the Housing Bubble by providing a faux understanding of homeownership while increasing the National Debt.
The Bush Tax Cuts destroyed the American Dream, USA economy and has sent the global economy into huge turmoil.
We, as a nation, cannot afford ethically, morally or financially to play the political game known to us as Right Wing Politics. The economic collapse was no surprise to an award winning economist. This was 2005. By 2006 there were major real estate holders seeking to move their inventory. In 2006, when movement started in the real estate inventories the then Secretary of the Treasury, John W. Snow was pressured to leave office. In response to the impending disaster, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, Henry Paulson was tapped to fill that void. Paulson spent most of his time in China. I have no doubt he expected the Chinese to bailout the impending bubble collapse, but, it didn't work and at the last minute he was infusing private banks with national monies in September of 2008.

...So the news that the U.S. housing bubble is over won't come in the form of plunging prices; it will come in the form of falling sales and rising inventory, as sellers try to get prices that buyers are no longer willing to pay. And the process may already have started.
Of course, some people still deny that there's a housing bubble. Let me explain how we know that they're wrong....
Murdoch's news media executives are charged with "Conspiracy to pervert the course of justice" as well as "Phone Hacking."
This is the Right Wing media in the USA.
...Brooks, 44, (click title to entry - thank you) answered bail at Lewisham police station on Thursday night and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 3.
Six others journalists from the News of the World, including British Prime Minister David Cameron's former spin doctor Andy Coulson, have been officially charged and will appear at the same court on August 16....
Ruthless, tabloid journalism which is the venue of the Right Wing media causes 'behaviors.' It causes political figures to 'posture' to prevent attacks and to elicit support. In this case, David Cameron attempted to solicit Rebecca Brooks as if in a love affair to play her into his court.
We have all witnessed the outrageous behaviors by the Political Right Wing. It is threatening our democracy and has shut down the legislative process in the USA. The obstruction of the Senate Republicans and the divided Republican House is completely dysfunctional for our democracy and has caused economic hardship of the citizen.
This type of 'interaction' between the Right Wing media and the RNC is legendary in the USA. It is known to influence elections and I always thought that was influence peddling.
The USA needs to reform its election laws including funding, voter empowerment and truth based legislation rather than pandering political directives such as "Terry's Law." There are reasons for legislation and it should never be based in falsehoods created for political pandering. We can thank Murdoch for the moronic basis of our elections in the USA. There is no dignity in it and there is certainly no truth.
Romney can try to avoid the truth while counting the days to the election, but, using media pandering won't help him.
They can't help it. They have no real position. They run emotional campaigns and this is more proof.
Fear, hate, anger. That is the ideological political strategy of the RNC and the Romney Campaign.
Romney is stating the US military is endangered of losing its capacity to vote? Really? Give me a break. Talk about fabricated. The military tilt is trying to legitimize the position of legislation against voter fraud. That is all it is and we all know it.
The officers put their lives on the line. They kept firing until the gunman was disabled. Even though shot himself, the officer didn't flinch from his priority to stop the attack on innocent people. He knew. He knew if it weren't him to stop the killing then whom would it be the next police officer and what if he succumbed to gun fire?
I suppose this one is just another crazy, right? Just something everyone has to live with, yes?
...It was also not clear whether more than one shooter was involved. Bradley Wentlandt, the chief of police in nearby Greenfield, told journalists on the scene that a police officer had exchanged fire with a shooter. “That officer was shot multiple times,” Wentlandt was quoted as saying by the Times. “The shooter was put down.” He said the injured officer was taken to the hospital and expected to survive. He did not disclose the condition of the shooter. “We don’t know if there are additional shooters inside the temple,” he said. “The situation is very fluid. Tactical operations are ongoing.” At least three men - all with gunshot wounds - have been admitted to Froedert Hospital, said Nalissa Wienke, a spokeswoman for the hospital. One victim had been shot in the head and extremities and another in the abdomen. The third was undergoing evaluation. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal reported that victims were being removed from the temple’s prayer room and that SWAT team members were sweeping the building. The newspaper reported that the temple’s president, Satwant Kaleka, was among those shot. There were conflicting reports about whether another gunman had taken hostages inside the temple....
Swat teams are becoming routine calls now. What is the crazy's problem this time? No job? No job security? Skinhead? Hates Israel? Hates Palestine? Hates the world? Argument with his wife? Kids? Had a hang nail?
What the hell was the EXCUSE this time for some wacko to carrying huge amounts of munitions into a Temple to kill innocent people.
Montana Supreme Court rules against medical marijuana transactions against providers (click title to entry - thank you)
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
July 13, 2012 - 9:08 am EDT
HELENA, Mont. — TheMontanaSupreme Court has upheld a lower court's decision that saysmedical marijuanaproviders can't exchange delivery or cultivation services with each other or with contractors.
Lee Newspapers of Montana reports that the justices upheld Kalispell District Judge Stewart Stadler's decision in a 5-0 ruling last week...
The Montana Medical Marijuana Law is very successful. The opponents to the law want to stop that success because they don't have control of the wealth involved. They are afraid of the money this new industry is enjoying as it could be a game changer in Montana politics and ultimately national politics.
The teen use of marijuana rate has not changed in decades in Montana. The laws upholding criminal intent and/or activity still apply. It is a matter of enforcing the law not inhumane treatment of people in need of pain relief.
The one complaint made regarding the escalating availability of medical marijuana is obvious. The industry was under the radar until 2008 when the frequency of new vendors started to increase. They increased again in 2009 and escalated significantly in 2010. THE ECONOMY STUPID. As people became under or unemployed there was the opportunity to embark on growing medical marijuana as a potential income.
Here again the chances for enforcement of laws regarding wayward growers should be followed. There will be survivors of this new economic dynamic and there will be failures.
There were complaints about people without medical conditions having medical marijuana cards issued by opportunistic physicians. Enforcement of laws regarding white collar crime and fraud need to be implemented.
The opposition to medical marijuana is dangerous. There probably are not studies yet, but, it is my estimation that medical marijuana users are doing better medically then their peers using more conventional medicines. I believe they are going better overall. Studies need to be conducted.
When a patient has effective pain relief the immune system works better. We know pain and stress repress the human immune system. When fighting cancer the immune system is important, even when chemo suppresses it.
If pain reduction is successful with medical marijuana as patients report (which is the only sincere measure of success) their immune systems have to be doing better. That is measured easily along with a simple blood test called CBCD (complete blood count differentiated).
There can also be slide made to examine the quality of the immune cells to realize how many are normal.
The opposition to medical marijuana is due to politics, not FACTS.
I have been at the Traverse City Film Festival this week. I will be putting together a collection of opinions regarding the films on Monday evening.
For those interested, my friend with the heart condition is doing fine. Not great, but, better. Her medication was changed and hopefully that will maintain her stability. It seems fairly obvious to me why Governor Synder wants emergency managers across the state. It is about real estate. If one examines the focus of the emergency managers it is about bringing in private ownership of land. Additionally, Snyder recently passed a bill allowing the misuse of wetlands along the lakes of the state. A property owner can now mow the wetlands to create a manicured appearance. Doesn't matter if the wetlands are used by wildlife or in a Fly Way.
Additionally, Synder is instituting requirements for a management plan of all Michigan state lands, INCLUDING, lake bottom lands. One might note the bottom lands of the Great Lakes are exposed at the periphery/lakeshore due to drought and lowering of the lakes for the purpose of the St. Lawrence Seaway. We already know if there is development of land at the shoreline of lakes, it causes higher drought rates.
Snyder is looking for land development everywhere and he doesn't care how he gets it. The emergency manager for Detroit no doubt would like to see entire sections of the city burned to allow redevelopment. But, where are all the federal grants to protect the firefighter jobs? When buildings burn, it doesn't matter if they are abandoned. They still pose a problem to surrounding neighborhoods, cities and counties if the fire gets out of control.
Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grants (click title to entry - thank you)
Detroit firefighter Bruce McMurtry, with Engine 56 at Seven Mile and Ryan, said leaders in both cities don't seem to realize the implications of such an agreement.
"I don't think city managers understand what that would entail," McMurtry said. "That 3-square-mile area they are looking at is a very busy area for service."
The proposed area of coverage would roughly be bordered by Interstate 75, McNichols, Mound Road and just north of Carpenter.
McNamara called the timing of the proposal an example of political games. Hamtramck Councilwoman Cathie Gordon, who is running for Wayne County Commissioner, made an initial pitch to Detroit Council President Charles Pugh earlier this summer.
"It must be election time, but it's not fair for the people we protect and serve or to the protectors," McNamara said.

(Reuters) - Detroit Mayor Dave Bing (click here) said on Wednesday he has imposed 10 percent pay cuts and other contract adjustments to the city workers in an bid to save the cash-strapped city $102 million a year.
The Detroit City Council on Tuesday had rejected by a 5-4 vote Bing's plan for the cuts. But as part of an April consent deal that gave the state of Michigan more control of the city's finances, the city's duty to bargain with union is suspended and the mayor can impose the new contracts without city council approval....
Judge Prentis Edwards ruled that Mayor Jeffrey Lamarand has to follow the Taylor City Council’s resolution to accept the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant.
Edwards said the council acted within its power in directing the mayor to accept thegrant, which would bring back 32 laid-off firefighters. The grant is issued through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The council’s resolution was vetoed by Lamarand, andthe council then overrode that veto in a special meeting June 26....
The elected authorities in the House and Senate are allowed classified information. I believe Harry Reid. He does have a credible source, the returns themselves!
Reid can't release them, but, he can frame his understanding any way he wants to. The Senate Majority Leader is entitled to understand what is going on with the USA. If Harry Reid believes the people of this nation are entitled to understand the deceptive practices of a Presidential nominee, it is his freedom of speech right.

...Romney said it is time Reid does so, while flatly denying the charge.
"Harry's going to have to describe who it is that he spoke with, because of course that’s totally and completely wrong. It’s untrue, dishonest and inaccurate. It’s wrong. So I’m looking forward to having Harry reveal his sources, and we’ll probably find out it’s the White House," Romney said in an afternoon interview with conservative radio host Sean Hannity.
Arguing that Reid should "put up or shut up" quickly invited a response from Democrats, who have long been clamoring for Romney to release additional years of his tax records....
Romney's very favorite strategy against 'The Truth' is to deny any statements that does not uphold his image to the public. If Romney is denying accusations without backing them up, then he is lying. If he has proof the accusations are lies, then it would benefit his image to reveal the truth.
Romney is lying. There are years he did not pay taxes. Absolutely.
Romney's agenda for the USA is unknown. He always wants to concentrate on jobs, but, he has a poor track record in that area and believes President Obama is vulnerable because of that. The Republicans in the House and Senate are responsible for poor job growth, not the President. There has been no viable legislation passed to improve the circumstances of the nation because of the chronically political Republicans and their strategies to do harm to the country while satisfying their cronies.
The American Electorate does not know what Romney will do once in office. He is a wealth oriented candidate and the nation will be harmed with his skills being put to use in the White House to destroy the Middle Class and put wealth in the hands of those too scared to invest in growth in the USA. Romeny is Wall Street. There isn't anything else to understand. He is not a wizard. There is no magic. We already know what his skill set is and we don't need it. He will cause harm to the country and allies.

The dynamics of Syria are disturbing. The people are dedicated to their democracy. Some of the cities/neighborhoods have already formed their own democracies. They are not going to give it up. They don't care the cost.
The Russians wanted the rebels to come to the table to achieve a bilateral solution. That isn't going to happen. They have been too oppressed for too long to provide a reasonable venue for negotiations.
The rebels/citizens/terrorists (depending if one is viewed by Assad or not) Syrians are not going to stop their fighting. They love life, but, they are refusing to allow any Western force to be involved. The Syrians do not want to be occupied while they set up a new paradigm. The citizen militia is receiving recognition within their own communities. The dead are buried with conviction and honor, including children.
The UN needs to continue to seek humanitarian support and refugee camps. The Assad regime is committing genocide in slow motion, especially considering his minority ethnic status as a leader. He needs to stop, but, won't. He is no longer admired by the Syrian people, but, will do nothing to remove himself from his thrown.
Thank you, Mr. Annan. Your sincere attempts are noted. We need to support the Syrian people enough for their survival. I believe they need a model similar to Libya, but, they are not on the Mediterranean Sea with a large desert as a neighbor.
BEIRUT/ALEPPO: Former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan (click title to entry - thank you) has quit his post as international peace envoy to Syria, shooting down hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the increasingly bloody conflict. Annan denied this resignation meant the Syrian people would be left to fend for themselves as battles raged in Aleppo, killing at least 60 people. Annan, who’s mission, centered on an April cease-fire that never took hold, blamed “finger-pointing and name-calling” at the U.N. Security Council for his decision to quit, but suggested his successor may have better luck. “I did not receive all the support that the cause deserved,” Annan told a hastily scheduled news conference in Geneva. He said “continuous finger-pointing and name-calling” in the Security Council had hindered his attempts to implement the so-called six-point peace plan....
If legislators want the confidence of the electorate, the nation's problems need to be solved BEFORE the November elections. Seriously. Do elected federal representatives actually think the electorate should 'get on board' so this can all happen after the elections are over.
I don't think so. The legislation should be a show of, not just good faith, but, a show of the best faith the country can place in their elected representatives.
I really wish those elected would stop insulting the intelligence of the entire nation.
...In announcing his retirement, LaTourette said (click title to entry - thank you) he was fed up with the increasingly uncompromising environment on Capitol Hill. In his remarks today, he alluded to the fact that such failure to compromise has created a massive deficit that lawmakers can’t seem to figure out.
LaTourette shared a story about an old collie of his that continually ran into a door in an attempt to go outside, and after many repeated gaffes, finally learned to get the door open before attempting to go through it. Similarly Congress, according to LaTourette, would have to hit a wall many times before learning they need to compromise to get anywhere.
“Congress is like an alcoholic, said the long-time Ohio Republican. “Before anything is going to get done, they have to hit rock bottom.”
The idea of the original Bowles-Simpson Plan was to reduce the debt by $4 trillion over ten years through an uneven combination of spending cuts and tax increases.
According to LaTourette, his group’s plan would aim to simplify the nation’s tax system, and would place more focus on reforming Medicare. A to-be-determined combination of individual and cooperate taxes would add up to a specific tax rate that could be as high as 29%....
The Republicans actually expect Americans to be this stupid. Their latest ploy to prevent military cuts is the 'idea' the National Debt would reach 100% of GDP ONLY to be avoided by two years with the scheduled cuts.
So, in other words, all the cuts that is now LAW, scheduled for New Years Eve when the coach turns to a pumpkin, is supposed to be nullified because the cuts would slow down the increase in National Debt.
Huh? Where does that make sense? Where is that moral? And why are Republicans so willing to be Flip-Floppers? Following their leadership?

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) appeared on Fox News Radio this afternoon, and apparently had a little trouble keeping his composure.
The Republican leader was asked about President Obama's recent comments that he believes in an economy the works "from the middle class out," not "from the top down." This apparently sent Boehner over the edge.
"Sometimes I have to catch my breath and slow down because the rhetoric in this campaign is just so over the top. And that's because the president's policies have failed. Listen -- 93% of Americans believe they're a part of the middle class. That's why you hear the president talk about the middle class every day, because he's talking to 93% of the American people. But the president has never created a job. He's never even had a real job for Christ's sake."
I can't help but love the contrast between the first sentence in that paragraph and the last....
WASHINGTON - With the government heading toward a year-end "fiscal cliff," House Republicans approved a full plate of Bush-era tax cuts Wednesday that they said could help shore up a still-frail national economy. At the same time, the Obama administration warned that threatened budget cuts could send some of America's troops into battle with less training....
So let me get this right. Completely right.
There is a National Debt the Republicans state has to be solved by cutting domestic budgets to the bone and beyond.
Or, dismantle Medicare. Maybe both!
According to the Republicans other than Senator Coburn, believe the military spending has to increase.
Yet, it is necessary to maintain all Bush Tax Cuts that will continue to increase the National Debt.
You know, Boner, I really believe you are Anti-American.
Senator Coburn states he knows of $1 trillion US that can be made to the military budget today. I believe that is his contribution. I would like to see specifics from him.
Unnecessary war has increased the national debt from 2002 to 2011. It is time the military rein in their spending and I suggest Senator Coburn make that $1 trillion US his mission.

Let's call every problem in the world a cultural issue, deal trillions in aid to every country with a culture problem and fix it!
It would solve everything. We could "Do an Iraq" everywhere. It would keep our military spending increasing. It would employ the American unemployed and it would spread the American democracy everywhere.
"Been there, done that!"
The American people decided they needed to rebuild their own infrastructure FIRST!
Now, the country of India has a billion people to worry about. They have imported the USA CULTURE, all one has to do is look to "Bollywood." Do they have a culture issue? No. The sacred cows can roam the streets forever while the country grows up around them. They have sincere problems in moving into a modern day society. It is like saying Iceland failed hugely because of their culture. THEIR CULTURE is European. You don't get closer to the American Culture than Iceland.

Bail Out the US Post Office after legislating their bankruptcy, BIG PROBLEM!
The US Post Office needs a cash injection. Nationalize the US Post Office to benefit the smooth running of the country and then act for paybacks with current interest rates as dictated by the Federal Reserve.
Or perhaps do a Lehman Brothers bankruptcy and let them reorganize their debt under Chapter 11.
Better yet, allow them to have a supervised reorganization like the car companies. Sounds like a plan.

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Postal Service is bracing (click title to entry - thank you) for a first-ever default on billions in payments due to the Treasury, adding to widening uncertainty about the mail agency's solvency as first-class letters plummet and Congress deadlocks on ways to stem the red ink.
