John McCain is drawing sectarian lines between who is or isn't the most deadly force in Syria. It only goes to prove he knows nothing or less about the people of Syria.
IS/IS/L is Sunni. The Free Syrian Army is Sunni. President Assad is Alawite which is Shi'ite. Hezbollah is operating within Syria and cooperating with Assad and they are Shi'ite. There are other Shi'ite militias in Syria cooperating with Assad.
John McCain is obviously making preference between Sunni and Shi'ite and OBVIOUSLY seeking to confront Iran in regard to any support it provides the Shi'ites to stabilize Syria.
What is John McCain attempting to do annihilate the Shi'ites first which is a preference of Israel or is he willing to allow the civil war in Syria to draw it's own conclusion so the country finally stabilizes?
In my opinion, McCain wants a war with Iran and will seek to draw the USA into it at any cost.
What McCain is proposing is for the USA to rule the conflict currently in the region to an outcome demanded by the USA. That is some of the problems that will occur if the USA lends itself to a protracted war. It is why the region has to decide the path forward and the best practices within the cultural understandings of the people.
The USA does not belong in Iraq and McCain is a prime example why.
The USA never did belong in Iraq.
