Confirmed cases globally 4,801,202 (click here)

Deaths 318,935

USA Confirmed cases in the USA 1,477,459 (click here)

Deaths 80,271

The USA percentage of global confirmed cases is 30.8 percent.
The USA percentage of confirmed cases in the Americas is 70.2 percent.
The USA percentage of global deaths is 25.2 percent.

The graph below (click here) shows confirmed cases on a timeline. I welcome any interested to examine the animated timeline to understand the rapid growth in the USA, 70 percent of the confirmed cases in the Americas.

The top graph is March 23, 2020, when the first cases were detected in the USA. Immediately, the spread of the virus in the USA surpassed all other countries and continue to this day. The virus is not stopped in the USA, not by a long shot compared to the rest of the world.

Florida population 21,480.000 (21.48 million)

These statistics don't even scratch the surface. (click here) The negatives of those tested are high. Why risk exposing them to the virus? Of those testing, there is seven percent that tests positive. Florida needs to at the very least advise the people to wear masks. They are known to work when most of the people are wearing them.

Who is minding the store? It appears states are on their own.

River gauges May 20, 2020 (click here)

Localized flooding (click here) is expected to continue across portions of northern Michigan. Watch for flooded roadways: turn around don't drown.

There are some major rivers in the areas that are black. But, the high water areas appear to be different from any of the major rivers. It is basically local flooding.

Michigan may want to ask the US Army Corp. to take a look at this mess. The Great Lakes have been extremely high on any one day this year. There are times they are at flood stage with fluctuations of 12 inches a day when large ships are on the lakes. I really think the Governor needs an ally in the US Army Corp. With higher lake levels that raises the water table.

This is what our hospitals are looking like.

In a workshop at St. Anthony Hospital, (click here) maintenance crews spend time each morning making the sanitizing wipes the medical center can no longer afford to buy.

After soaking paper towels in a liquid mixture developed by an infection preventionist, they deliver the 3.5-gallon buckets — bright green drums with “Menards” printed on them — throughout the 151-bed hospital.

The regular vendor stopped supplying the wipes weeks ago when the medical center struggled to pay its bills on time. And a worldwide shortage has made them difficult to find on the open market, where hospitals now try to outbid each other for precious stock.

With a century-old mission to care for people living in Little Village and other nearby neighborhoods, this is the unorthodox approach St. Anthony must take as it battles both insolvency and a deadly virus that has hit the neighborhoods it serves harder than other parts of the city....

Butt, Montana - St. James Healthcare in Butte (click here) will start doing elective surgeries again starting Thursday. It hasn’t done any since late March in order to conserve personal protective equipment and to help reduce the possible spread of the new coronavirus. Their move wasn’t unique -- it followed a recommendation by the Montana Hospital Association.

Everyone who enters the hospital gets their temperature checked and a mask to wear.

“The COVID pandemic has been very challenging for health care workers across the country, across the world,” said Dr. Jennifer Davenport, chief medical officer for St. James Healthcare....

This is an interesting article out of New Zealand. Storage of healthcare supplies has expiration dates. The way this can be overcome is to have the STORED supplies constantly rotated through providing a supply to the health care industry all the time. Is there something wrong in providing masks to hospitals to ensure the national supply is up to date. Better that than being ill-prepared.

Two major health agencies (click here) have written-off 100,000 face masks from Wellington's emergency stocks after they were allowed to fall into disrepair.

Earlier in April Stuff reported 10 per cent of the masks held by the Capital & Coast and Hutt Valley district health boards had degraded in storage after staff at Hutt Hospital reported brittle and crumbling elastic fittings on masks issued to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The health boards had intended to retro-fit the masks - which they said had been purchased a decade ago- with new elastic, however in a statement the health boards' joint director of provider services Joy Farley said this idea had been abandoned.

"[The] DHBs made the decision not to continue with the repair of the masks with deteriorated elastic as testing of these retro-fitted masks showed they were not reliably fit for purpose....

Trump, himself, is tapering with the 2020 elections.

Secretaries of State are responsible for the elections. This is blatant blackmail.

...President Donald Trump (click here) threatened Wednesday to hold up coronavirus relief money for Michigan after he said — erroneously — that the state had sent absentee ballots to millions of voters. It's not clear that he can do so....

Why didn't I guess it was his mental health at issue more than even blackmail?

The symptom of a deeper disorder is called mythomania and pseudologia fantastica. It is chronic. These symptoms ARE a part of a deeper disorder.

...The information stated (click here) in the President’s tweet is not true. Michigan is not sending absentee ballots to 7.7 million people ahead of elections this year....

President Zelensky should ask the FBI to participate as well.

The credibility of these tapes is very low at this point. Guiliani and a Russian operative, Andriy Derkach are involved. The FBI could run forensics on the tapes to determine their credibility. Additionally, the tapes are tapered with as Trump, Jr. got his hands on these tapes and posted one. There is no determining credibility if the Trump campaign has possession of official recordings of the Ukraine government. The FBI needs to take custody of the tapes currently in possession of Trump, Jr. and the Trump campaign. I am more than confident Russia is involved in the same way they were in the hacking of the DNC, DCCC and Clinton campaign.

Guiliani has had these tapes since December? Forget it, the FBI needs to run forensics for tampering by Guiliani and the Trump campaign.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (click here) called on his law enforcement agencies Wednesday to investigate leaked audio of private phone calls several years ago between Vice President Joe Biden and Ukraine’s then-president, Petro Poroshenko, and said that the conversations “might be perceived, qualified as high treason.”

Speaking at a news conference at Kyiv’s Mariinsky Park to mark the first anniversary of his presidency, Zelensky again found himself pulled into U.S. politics just eight months after a phone conversation between him and President Trump became the subject of an impeachment inquiry.

The recordings, which were first played at a news conference Tuesday in Kyiv, shed relatively little new light on Biden’s role in ousting Ukraine’s prosecutor general four years ago. But Zelensky’s comments Wednesday could have been aimed at appeasing Trump, discrediting a rival in Poroshenko and deflecting to investigators all in one swipe....

Russia had been flying astronauts to the space station and this man supervised it.

Yevgeny Mikrin, (click here) the head of Russia's human spaceflight program, has died, the country's space agency Roscosmos confirmed Tuesday (May 5). The statement did not specify a cause of death. Mikrin, who was in his mid-60s, tested positive for the new coronavirus last month.

Before his diagnosis, Mikrin had attended the April 9 launch of a Soyuz spacecraft carrying a NASA astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts to the International Space Station. On April 28, Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Rogozin said on Twitter that the incubation period for any crew exposure to the coronavirus had passed and that the astronauts were feeling fine. Earlier in April, NASA expressed complete confidence in the astronauts' health and the integrity of the crew's prelaunch quarantine....

Annie Glenn has passed.

May 19, 2020
By Bob Jacobs

“We are deeply saddened (click here) by the passing of Annie Glenn. A stalwart member of the space and military communities, her courageous support of her legendary husband John was unmatched.

“She provided an example for other women who followed to face the challenges of being part of our nation’s space program, and the stress of having spouses in combat. She stood steadfastly by her husband as he took to space once again as the oldest person to orbit Earth, even as she continued her own lifelong public service on behalf of children, the elderly, and the disabled.

“The Glenns dedication to each other is well known, and we looked to them as an unmatched example of the strength and compassion that a lifetime of devotion creates. She will be missed.”

May 19, 2020

Annie Glenn, (click here) wife of the late astronaut and U.S. Sen. John Glenn who overcame a childhood stutter to become an advocate for others with speech disorders, died Tuesday of complications from COVID-19. She was 100.

Glenn died at a nursing home near St. Paul, Minnesota, where she’d moved in recent years to be near her daughter, said Hank Wilson, a spokesman for the Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University.

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine also announced Glenn’s death, the latest among centenarians succumbing rapidly to the new coronavirus....

Bridenstein needs to hold a news conference before SpaceX's launch of astronauts.

Trump has been pushing NASA to bypass the moon in it's ambitions to go directly to Mars. I think Trump is bypassing NASA by allowing SpaceX to bring about missions into Mars and Deep Space.

The evidence adds up lately especially with Musk making statements about ordering a large number of engines. He is selling all his worldly possessions because he intends to leave Earth in his lifetime. Recently, Ivanka Trump tweeted Musk on Twitter.

There is something amiss at NASA and the public has a right to know after Douglas Loverro (click here) resigned ahead of the much anticipated SpaceX launch.

...Loverro, who came to NASA in October 2019, would have presided over the Flight Readiness Review — an important safety check scheduled for later this week to get ready for the planned May 27 launch that will send two NASA astronauts on a brief journey to the international space station....

Alternate realities have alternate agendas. This is more than palace intrigue. It could be that Ivanka is seeking voters, too. Trumps do that. They try to bring in voters from every aspect of extreme USA culture. But, either way, there is something not quite right.

July 19, 2019

...Bridenstine, (click here) who was standing to the right of the president in the Oval Office, replied that the Moon is a “proving ground” for going to Mars, allowing NASA to test out technologies needed for keeping people alive for extended periods of time on the Red Planet. “When we go to Mars we’re going to have to be there for a long period of time, so we need to learn how to live and work on another world,” said Bridenstine.

The Trump administration’s stated goal for deep space human exploration is to go to the Moon. The very first space policy directive that Trump signed in December of 2017 was to send people back to the Moon to establish a sustainable presence there. “Beginning with missions beyond low-Earth orbit, the United States will lead the return of humans to the Moon for long-term exploration and utilization, followed by human missions to Mars and other destinations,” the directive states....

I apologize for the behavior of the power drunk president of the USA to anyone and any agency anywhere in the world that has received irrational behavior in whatever form it manifested.

Okay, sooner or later the American people have to understand their president has a mental health problem.

When a person rejects the VA's research as nonsense, that is not a stable person. There is no appreciation for the work and the outcome of that research and simply rejecting it is like laughing at death. There is no reasonable response from the president to anyone.

What do mentally healthy people say when someone sends them a nonsensical letter with all the facts dismissed in place of an alternate reality? It is a mentally disturbed person writing the letter. Because it was the president of the USA writing the letter others have to respond because of the extreme seriousness that surrounds the office, if not the man.

This isn't the first time he has authored an irrational letter.

Anyone can look at the response of Trump to this national health emergency and know he is mentally disturbed. It started with denial and a hope a virus this deadly would simply blend in with the flu virus statistics.

There has been no rational response to this national emergency from the president.

Let me state that again.

There has been no rational response to this national emergency from the president.

The reason he is not understood to be mentally unhealthy is that he is currently holding the presidency of the USA which has the power that has to be answered regardless of the incompetency of the man behind the Resolute Desk. Basically, the answers are to the desk and not the man.

It is what it is. But, Donald John Trump has mental health issues. The Emperor needs new clothes.

An anti-malarial drug (click here) President Trump has aggressively promoted to treat covid-19 had no benefit and was linked to higher rates of death for Veterans Affairs patients hospitalized with the novel coronavirus, according to a study, raising further questions about the safety and efficacy of a treatment that has seen widespread use in the pandemic.

The study by VA and academic researchers analyzed outcomes of 368 male patients nationwide, with 97 receiving hydroxychloroquine, 113 receiving hydroxychloroquine in combination with the antibiotic azithromycin, and 158 not receiving any hydroxychloroquine.

Rates of death in the groups treated with the drugs were worse than those who did not receive the drugs, the study found. Rates of patients on ventilators were roughly equal, with no benefit demonstrated by the drugs....

There would be no reason for the scientists and doctors at the Veterans' Administration to lie. Their research shows there is no measurable effect to hydroxychloroquine in regard to COVID-19. Logic only can follow the idea that the VA, a government agency responsible for veteran soldiers' health in this country would be delighted to share super good information about an effective treatment against a deadly virus. They would be delighted to make the president happy with them. Fortunately, the VA is more interested in facts rather than an alternative reality.

The president of the United States of America has a mental health problem.

Anyone want to talk about the exciting news of gravity waves being sucked into Antarctica?

Seriously.

Now that sounds crazy, doesn't it? Right? I must be crazy. Actually, I was trying to come up with the words to explain this to the readers of this blog, but, struggled in making it simple enough. But, there is such a thing discovered and it is really exciting.

Don't believe me do you?

Sounds crazy, doesn't it?

It is a breakthrough in understanding the "hot spot" in Antarctica.

The Southern Ocean (click here) is famously stormy, home to waves taller than telephone poles. Yet 50 kilometers overhead, the weather is just as tempestuous, if less obviously so. Powerful waves in the air break and crash, dumping energy into the stratosphere and disrupting winds that help control the climate.

For about 2 decades, researchers have known that a region near 60° South, along the Drake Passage between the tip of South America and Antarctica, is the planet’s hot spot for these so-called gravity waves. They have long suspected that the waves (not to be confused with the gravitational waves rippling through space) are launched by the mountains of the southern Andes and the Antarctic Peninsula, which jut thousands of meters into westerly winds. But puzzlingly, the hot spot lies hundreds of kilometers away from the mountains. Now, a high-altitude aircraft has traced newborn gravity waves rising from the mountains and bending, or refracting, toward that hot spot....

Depends what you mean by risky (or financial instrument which is rather broad). (click here)

You have funky things like target redemption notes (TARNs) which I have seen a Singapore bank try and sell retail which appear to pay a decent annual rate and redeem in a couple of years but can effectively turn into a zero coupon perpetual note…. The one they suggested had an inverse rate reference as well just to be even more stupid for your grandma to buy. There is probably a max maturity but still. On that point there are a few things such as dual currency deposits (which are really you selling the bank options) where you sell the bank vol cheaply without knowing it....

The FDA needs a new classification for medications over 50 years old. Drugs like hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) and pemoline (Cylert) have outlived their sincere usefulness and have better options. These drugs can be considered to be rough cut medications and have dangerous side effects that manifest in most if, not all cases.

It isn't to say these medications cannot be prescribed, quite the contrary, there are medications such as digoxin that are invaluable and have few side effects so much as beneficial effects. However, there are many medications in that group that need to be prescribed with caution and should be a second choice if there is another beneficial effect vs. dangerous side effects.

The older drugs need to be reviewed and placed in an assessment that demands caution when prescribing and a review of patient side effects that are life-changing vs. effectiveness. Patients, at times, in a short-sighted view of life, will seek treatment for relief of some symptoms and do not care to understand the long view of side effects. There are times when living and coping with symptoms is a wise decision when it comes to added years of longevity without severe complications.

The American Medical Association would add valuable input to such decisions.

Fever might not be the most common coronavirus symptom

The smell sense of the brain is very near the face and eyes. The article mentioned below doesn't discount fever is a symptom but the one characteristic that sets the SARS-CoV-2 apart from others is it's brain involvement.

After receiving smell information from the nose’s sensory receptors, the olfactory bulb relays the information to a circuit of brain regions for processing.

Now, a study from the Harvard-affiliated Cambridge Health Alliance (click here) that was published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings has examined 1,000 records from outpatients. The researchers were looking for differences between COVID-19 and other diseases that have similar common symptoms. What they found was that shortness of breath for COVID-19 patients gradually becomes worse over a few days, and that fever is not "a reliable indicator" for infection. The study also found that the disease can just start with coughing and no other symptoms at all....

...On top of that research, doctors from Europe examined 1,420 patients from 18 different hospitals, and what they found was that fever was only present in 45% of cases. The most common symptom out of all the patients was headaches at 70.3%, followed closely by a loss of smell at 70.2%....

The Navajo Nation (click here) has surpassed New York and New Jersey for the highest per-capita coronavirus infection rate in the US -- another sign of Covid-19's disproportionate impact on minority communities.

The Navajo Nation, which spans parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah, reported a population of 173,667 on the 2010 census. As a result, with 4,002 cases, the Native American territory has 2,304.41 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people.

By contrast, New York state now has a rate of 1,806 cases per 100,000 and New Jersey is at 1,668 cases per 100,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez told CNN's Sara Sidner of its rate on the "Situation Room" Sunday night....

Israel is linked to a cyberattack on Iranian shipping.

There was an attack against Iranian backed fighters. The attack took place in East Syria. A retiring Israeli general stated Iran is withdrawing from Syria. The seven dead were Iraqi militiamen. It was in the Iraq-Syrian border.

The dead fighters were brought to the border as reinforcements. Iraq needs to protect its borders and it is widely understood that Iraqi militias are vital to such operations by Iraq. There is a human rights group observing the region.

Faced with economic recession and deep strains in the European Union over the coronavirus, German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday agreed to what would amount to collective European debt to help those countries hit hardest by the pandemic.

Ms. Merkel joined with the French president, Emmanuel Macron, to propose a 500 billion euro ($545 billion) recovery fund, financed by the European Union and repaid through the collective Brussels budget, to help European regions and economic sectors battered by the coronavirus.

The proposal must be agreed to by the other 25 member states of the bloc, some of which have also rejected collective indebtedness in the past....

Which ones specifically will be determined later today, Lightfoot said.

Over the past week, Lightfoot had been asking churches to abide by social distancing rules and warning that she would take action against churches that refused.

But on Sunday, hundreds of people defied Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s stay-at-home order to attend church anyway and the mayor’s office warned that violators may be cited after review....
