Tonight, CNN's Anderson Cooper (click here) and Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta host a global town hall on the Omicron coronavirus variant and Dr. Anthony Fauci will answer viewer questions. Watch live at 9 p.m. ET on CNN.

The United States' first confirmed case of the Omicron coronavirus variant has been identified in California.

In a White House news briefing, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said the case was in an individual who traveled from South Africa on November 22 and tested positive for Covid-19 on November 29....

Self quarantine requires about three weeks before the course of the virus is understood. That is the case in the Netherlands and Belgium. It takes time to allow the virus to run its course, so it is better to be cautious. Things are looking good so far with the vaccinated. It probably tempers the effects of the virus.

That is pure speculation and should not enter into any decisions regarding the virus until all the facts are realized.
