It is long believed that Malaysia has no enemies and is the enemy of no one. The last real conflict was within Malaysia in 1963 when it's first constitution was adopted. The British were deeply involved in that settlement and constitution. The initial constitution was to incorporate several states into one country, consisting of Malaya, North Borneo, Sarawak and Singapore.
Now, if any suspicion as to what cargo might be involved in this flight I would think the first place to look is Singapore. It has money and powerful people. Possibly a shipping manifest of a carrier that frequently brings cargo to the airport.
Indonesia complained about the new country. The strongest opposition came from President Sukarno. The USA would not consider him an ally. (click here)
Could there be flames from 1963 still lingering? Sure. But, there are also terrorist elements believed to be in the region, including the attacks upon Bali.
The strongest opposition to any form of government was the Sarawak United Peoples' Party or SUPP. They still exist today. They are a leading party in the country if I am not mistaken. SUPP is heavily lined with working class Chinese believed at one time to have a communist underground movement. This Malayan political party was very successful in gaining ground in 2008. I think there is a book written about the party and it's members.
I suppose speculation could go in several different directions. It is rather odd to have a jet that size simply disappear. Even the ocean would have given up some evidence of it's crash.
The Chinese turned up some floating debris in the Gulf of Thailand or was it the South China Sea. That was the only find that ever made sense to me. Have the Riau Islands ever been searched?
At the very least this flight is surrounded by a great deal of speculation and I think that is a good thing. But, there needs to be an international assessment of this flight and demands for evidence. This incident should never simply disappear into history. I never thought it was ever an accident.
The French searched nearly two years for it's downed jet and finally found it. The oceans don't bring forth it's mysteries easily. Reflecting on the French jet I thought for sure as time went by something would be known. I am curious about the cargo, but, there are also lawsuits. An international investigation would have to provide confidential handling of such information.
There is unrest in China these days. There should be some conclusion to this to settle any possibility of intent to cause damage to any other country. I would find it shocking to think the Malaysian government were ever involved, but, a pilot? Maybe.
Then there is the issue of the true cargo manifest and the unknown cargo which would be allowed IF the jet had unlisted space within it's cargo hold.
I am pleased Sir Tim Clarke brought this up. He was correct in doing so.
