I was just reading a UK review of ACTT-1 trial of remdesivir.

It is having its greatest impact on lesser sick patients. Patients that are ill and on supplemental oxygen find the best result.

Okay. So, the patients that are very sick and on ventilators are still receiving dexamethasone as their best friend in this pandemic. The remdesivir is still being administered to these patients.

Dexamethosone is proven to be a huge benefit to all patients.

These are my initial thoughts about this review I read in the dialogue called "The CONVERSATION."

I think patients have to be treated very early in the disease process. The earlier the infection and showing symptoms is the time to begin both these medications. Now, there is no discussion of the Regeneron REGN-Cov2 Antibody Cocktail (click here). That can be emergently approved by the FDA and perhaps it should. But, this article discusses a UK finding about remdesivir. I think it's greatest message is to administer remdesivir as early as possible for people that test positive and are having symptoms.

The problem with that proposal is the expense and availability of remdesivir. If the financial markets want consistent and plenty of profit, they need to invest in GILEAD and in particular their product VEKLURY (the registered trademark) redesivir. PLEASE invest in the production of this medication. It is helpful in fighting this virus and no one disagrees with that fact.

The results of the ACTT-1 trial, (click here) which looked at the effectiveness of remdesivir as a treatment for COVID-19, have finally been published. So far the only drug that has been shown to reduce deaths from the disease has been dexamethasone, a steroid that suppresses the immune system through its anti-inflammatory effects. Steroids have a secondary effect on the disease – they don’t target the virus itself. Remdesivir, on the other hand, goes straight to the cause of the disease by inhibiting the virus....

...They found that patients receiving the drug improved and recovered more quickly, were less likely to progress to severe disease, were discharged from hospital sooner, and had a lower death rate of 11.4% compared with 15.2% in patients receiving “usual” treatment....

Why do I believe early administration to a person with a positive SARS-CoV-2 and showing symptoms is when this medication needs to start? It is a viral load. I haven't seen the study directly, but, I am confident there are blood tests in that trial and there are viral load recorded. THERE IS AN OPTIMAL VIRAL LOAD that remdesivir can vanquish with the body's help and dexamethasone as a companion treatment.

It only makes sense. Remdesivir attacks the virus. There is a maximum does that the human body can tolerate. So, the higher the viral load will demand MORE DAYS to be effective opposed to a lower viral load and the dosage tolerable will have a greater impact.

Remdesivir works against this virus. It is vital to determine it's most effective dosage and it's optimal time in the infection to begin and sustain administration to remove this virus from a person's body. There has to be an independent decision about children, but, it is vital it is determined.

Children need their own testing tool because at this point the adult testing places them into treatment at the point where they have a heavy viral load in a small person. Children must be tested at a point where the virus is at an early point in it's invasion of the child's body. The adult tests are ineffective and only identity a viral load too late in children.

If remdesivir is to help children maximally, early detection is vital and early administration begun early in their infection to avoid the inflammatory disease. That inflammatory disease in children causes tissue damage they will have for the rest of their lives. We need to concentrate on a vital child test that works for all ages even infancy to find when they are infected and begin treatment in measured amounts of medication to end the virus attack on them.

Observations I have made about families with young children is that the adults are oblivious to the danger their infants can face. The parents are walking with strollers. The adults and older children are wearing masks, but, the infant in the stroller is completely exposed. The family focus must be a great concern and more education carried out to end the neglect of the babies and toddlers to their danger from this virus.

I congratulate all those so very diligent in finding treatments and vaccines. They are unsung heroes alongside of the front line workers. They are also the best friends to the front line workers to end the virus as soon as possible, optomize the patients ability to fight back and provide faster recovery to a negative testing status after treatment.

Best to all and thank you so very, very much for keeping both oars in the water.

She was in tuned to the country and ready to act on the first day. She should have been president.

Implicit Bias was a concern of Hillary Clinton. Now, look at what we have, White Supremacist/Nationalists standing down and standing by. We would not have minority deaths or protests in our streets.

The American people need to identify expertise rather than popularity.

New Zealand has 22 deaths. Just 22. They had one set back and is considered recovered from it.

The first time New Zealand (click here) thought it had eliminated the coronavirus from its isolated shores, a mysterious outbreak in its largest city shattered any sense of victory over a tenacious foe.

Now, after a second round of strict lockdown, the country believes — if a bit more tentatively this time — that it has effectively stamped out the virus once again.

On Wednesday, New Zealand moved to lift the last of its restrictions in Auckland after 10 days with no new cases linked to a cluster that first surfaced in August. The government will now allow unrestricted gatherings, and trips on public transit without social distancing or masks, in the city of 1.6 million people.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who is facing re-election next week, called the reopening a validation of the country’s “go hard, go early” response. The strategy is aimed at eradicating the virus with a swift science-based policy, one that trades weeks of lockdown and sacrifice for an emergence to full economic activity....

They call it "Go hard and go early." It is the only reasonable response to SARS-CoV-2. By lenient policy of the Trump White House, it is dooming the USA to chronic illness and premature death, poor economics due to chronic illness and losses in qualified workers, and isolation in a world interested in eliminating the virus.

New Zealand closes it's borders and shut down its interior. As the outbreaks are contained within a short period of time by days or the longest, weeks, the country reopens.

It isn't a great global environment for the financial markets. The Federal Reserve has the greatest input with the markets. There was never a guarantee to any private endeavor that elation at profits will be showered over them forever. The fact the USA has been grossly mismanaged by Trump and the Republican Governors there is absolutely no clear vision for the future, EXCEPT, there is a need to end the virus permanently.

...“Go hard and go early” (click here) was New Zealand’s motto, and combined with strict border controls and high compliance with lockdown measures from “the team of 5 million” it seemed to have worked. Until now.

“I was gutted obviously. We had reached 100 days so it does feel like a kick in the teeth,” said Dr Siousxie Wiles, a British microbiologist and science communicator who lives in Auckland, a city of 1.5 million.

“But we know that with people coming in there is the chance this would happen.”

Wiles praised the government’s resurgence strategy as “absolutely spot-on” and said it had shown an impressive ability to adapt and move swiftly through alert levels.

“They have been very fast and very transparent. The speed which they moved people up the alert levels really frightened people, but this is the way to do it. What we will see now is: how quickly can you stamp out an outbreak?”...

The IMF is assessing the response by each country and offering its assessment about the coming year. The views of the future definitely rely on the effectiveness of "COVID-19 strategies." Weeks of closure is a blip, not a terminal response to any economy.

...The IMF (click here) estimated Tuesday that the global economy will shrink 4.4% for 2020. That would be the worst annual plunge since the Great Depression of the 1930s. By comparison, the international economy contracted by a far smaller 0.1% after the devastating 2008 financial crisis....

Detroit - The suspects accused of plotting (click here) to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer also talked about "taking" Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam out of anger about the leader's lockdown order during the COVID-19 pandemic, an FBI agent testified Tuesday.

Special FBI agent Richard Trask disclosed this detail during a preliminary examination in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where five suspects have bond hearings scheduled for Tuesday to determine if they should be released or remain jailed pending the outcomes of their cases.

Prior to the bond hearings, Trask outlined the FBI's case against the men, alleging they are part of a larger group of self-titled militia members from multiple states who met online earlier this year and discussed attacking government officials....

Ted Cruz is making empty arguments.

The practice of medicine has become sophisticated to either induce or perform a caesarian section on a viable fetus. Viable fetuses have been whisked to the Neonatal Intensive Care Units out of abortion clinics already.

Democrats are on record as being opposed to Dark Money.

Joe Biden is receiving donations from normally Republican donors is because the Republican Party has been completely irresponsible to our democracy and left Trump in office in the face of danger to the country.

The Second Amendment would need an amendment process whereby two-thirds of the Senate and US House and the people in order to remove the Second Amendment. The same thing is true about selling the US Post Office to a private company. Trump is not allowed to sell the USPS as Snyder did with assets of Michigan cities. It isn't easy to undo the amendments so all the drama is unnecessary.

Not one question to the judge yet. He is making a stump speech to keep Texas from turning Blue.

The Brennan Center can explain "Citizens United" better than Ted Cruz.

January 21, 2020 (click here) will mark a decade since the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, a controversial decision that reversed century-old campaign finance restrictions and enabled corporations and other outside groups to spend unlimited funds on elections.

While wealthy donors, corporations, and special interest groups have long had an outsized influence in elections, that sway has dramatically expanded since the Citizens United decision, with negative repercussions for American democracy and the fight against political corruption....

Disclosures

Coney-Barrett only yesterday disclosed her relationships with activists and their organizations who oppose abortion. That has to effect her standing as a current judge in the seventh appellant court. She never completely disclosed. She lied under oath.

She obviously has a hidden agenda. She never stopped affiliating with those groups even after she took a place on the 7th Appellant Court. She intends to deceive about her positions to conceal any objectionable idea.

She took the chance of disclosing this time because it is the end of the road for her. The Supreme Court is her goal to spread her particular politics no different than Thomas or Alito.

She also see herself being confirmed by a corrupt Republican Senate. She has no fear. Being covert is no longer a "safe" strategy. Being covert would be a danger to her position in the Supreme Court. It would be such a shame to have come all this way and not achieve her tightly held and silent goals.

Her covert status in her plans has nothing to do with religion. She lied to protect her plans for whatever reason she has been covert. Making plans to undermine stare decisis and due process is no small plan.

Due Process is what sets the USA apart as a government that enforces fairness and balance to it's Rule of Law.

I might add, the extremist right plans to execute women that have abortions. What a hideous reality and completely in opposition to each other morally. Prolife’s anti-abortion stand is in complete moral opposition to the death sentence.

Did it hurt, Dr. Fauci?

I was hurt to hear that you were disappointed by the use of your name and reputation in an ad by the Trump campaign and it was manipulated when taken out of context.

If Dr. Fauci was emotionally hurt by this he should say so. Being disappointed is something most Americans try to get over. Being hurt is more permanent and long lasting. Americans understand being hurt and that is not allowed.

I sincerely apologize for the reckless use of Dr. Fauci’s name without permission. He is loved by this country. The country trusts him. That will never change. I am sorry this happened to him.

Reinfection with a mutated strain.

This virus MUST be eliminated from the face of Earth. The more SARS-CoV-2 is exposed to human beings it mutates into a stronger strain with exposure over and over to it's hosts, human beings. IT IS RNA and replicates with human DNA. Understand?

- 9 and 26 May - He tests negative for the virus on two occasions

- 28 May - He develops symptoms again, this time including fever, headache, dizziness, cough, nausea and diarrhoea

5 June - He tests positive for the second time, and is hypoxic (low blood oxygen) with shortness of breath

Scientists say the patient caught coronavirus twice, rather than the original infection becoming dormant and then bouncing back. A comparison of the genetic codes of the virus taken during each bout of symptoms showed they were too distinct to be caused by the same infection.

"Our findings signal that a previous infection may not necessarily protect against future infection," said Dr Mark Pandori, from the University of Nevada.

"The possibility of reinfections could have significant implications for our understanding of Covid-19 immunity."

He said even people who have recovered should continue to follow guidelines around social distancing, face masks and hand washing....

An otherwise healthy 25-year-old Nevada man (click here) is the first American confirmed to have caught COVID-19 twice, with the second infection worse than the first.

He has recovered, but his case raises questions about how long people are protected after being infected with the coronavirus that causes the disease, and potentially how protective a vaccine might be.

"It's a yellow caution light," said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease expert at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, who was not involved in the research.

Respiratory infections like COVID-19 don't provide lifelong immunity like a measles infection. So, Dr. Paul Offit, an infectious disease expert at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, said he's not at all surprised people could get infected twice with the coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.

Detroit - ...Domestic violent extremists (click here) pose a steady and evolving threat of violence and economic harm to the United States and, while trends may shift, the underlying drivers for domestic violent extremism — such as perceptions of government or law enforcement overreach, sociopolitical conditions, racism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, misogyny, and reactions to legislative actions— remain constant, he said.

Lone wolves have been a problem for some time in the USA, but, with the arrests of 13 violent domestic terrorists, those seeking to succeed in the shadows may be lone wolves.

"See something, say something."

The FBI is most concerned about lone offender attacks, primarily shootings, as they have served as the dominant lethal mode for domestic violent extremist attacks, according to Wray. More deaths were caused by domestic violent extremists than international terrorists in recent years. He said 2019 was the deadliest year for domestic extremist violence since the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.

"The greatest threat we face in the homeland is that posed by lone actors radicalized online who look to attack soft targets with easily accessible weapons. We see this lone-actor threat manifested both within domestic violent extremists and homegrown violent extremists, two distinct sets of individuals that generally self-radicalized and mobilize to violence on their own," Wray said. "Domestic violent extremists are individuals who commit violent criminal acts in furtherance of ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as racial bias and anti-government sentiment. Homegrown violent extremists are individuals who have been radicalized primarily in the United States, and who are inspired by, but not receiving individualized direction from, foreign terrorist organizations."

Life saving use of technology. This is a great story out of Australia.

Interesting, the shark nudged his prey. The shark was unsure of his own safety and had to establish whether he would be successful in an attack or would he be the victim and lose his battle. It wasn't a White used to being the dominant predator. Great story.

All is well that ends well.

There can be side effects to COVID-19 beyond the initial infection. Former Governor Christie might want to keep his doctors close for awhile. Many Americans recovering from the virus do find they need recovery time after battling for their wellness. I wish him well.

Thanks to my family & friends for their prayers. I will have more to say about all of this next week.”

Christie announced Oct. 3 that he had tested positive and said hours later that he had checked himself into the hospital after deciding with his doctors that doing so would be “an important precautionary measure,” given his history of asthma....

Crackpots.

There are seriously disturbed people in the USA that exercise false authority because they preach about God and not science. Anyone preaching about God is automatically provided with authority.

Most major religions require some degree of education that provides for a "real life" interpretation of their doctrines and texts. That is not a priority of peripheral belief systems seeking to exist under one person's authority, ie: L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology. It grew out of a belief that people subscribed to rather than existing from texts of the ages. In the USA everything is possible and rightfully so, but, when odd belief systems find their way into a sincere authority in the USA then society suffers and flounders.

These folks exist in extremist belief systems and they should not exist in the Supreme Court of the USA stating precedent and stare decisis is irrelevant to the future.

"Oh, she is not that much of a crackpot." The authority Coney-Barrett will find at the Supreme Court has a life long timeline and plenty of time to plan the outcomes of this country.

Every so often (click here) you come across a piece of writing so extraordinary that you cannot help but share it. One such piece is a sermon on global warming by American pastor John MacArthur. Full of beautifully constructed rhetorical flourishes, it is forcefully delivered by an experienced and impassioned preacher to a large and appreciative audience.

For me, as a man of science, it is the most complete compilation of unsound arguments, factual errors and misleading analogies as I have seen in discussions of this subject. But it’s important because climate change is a big election issue this November in the US, where there is a growing movement of evangelical Christians who deny its existence, while Joe Biden promises a “clean air revolution”.

The minister of the COVID-denying, law-defying Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California – which has encouraged worshippers to congregate as normal despite state COVID-19 restrictions – MacArthur is an impressive figure whose Study Bible has sold almost 2 million copies....

...The reverend has the most serious reasons possible for rejecting the scientific consensus concerning the age of the Earth, the origins of humankind, the history and prehistory of the ancient near East and the peopling of continents: it is totally incompatible with the Genesis account of creation, Adam and Eve, the flood and the dispersion of peoples from the Tower of Babel....

Graham is Trump's puppet.

I could not believe Graham made his opening remarks as a dance on the Late Justice Ginsburg grave. They aren't men, they are oppressors to their carved out power. They trample the great achievements of women when they denigrate the historic life of Ruth Badar Ginsburg. She was the liberator of oppression of women. Graham rather women wearing aprons at home only to take them off for the bedroom.

The Affordable Care Act otherwise known as Obamacare stands because it is a tax. It is a tax on each American within a majority age.

It also places a tax on the health insurance companies that inhibit their profit to 15% by limiting their cost to their insured members. It would have been better to institute a tax of all health care insurance providers of 100% over profits greater than 15%.  The tax can then be distributed to those insured by that insurance provider. The more efficient way to achieve that goal is already written into the law and the savings are immediately passed onto the consumers of that insurance.

The health care insurance companies are also taxed by demanding all Americans regardless of pre-existing conditions be insured. Oddly, men's erectile dysfunction is not listed as a pre-existing condition and is covered by Medicare.

So, Coney-Barrett is now the lynchpin for Wall Street. We'll see.

"Good Night, Moon"

May the tides the moon creates keep the whales safe.

October 8, 2020
By Scott Roberts

Savannah - This Thursday (click here) is day 4 of World Space Week. Today, we are going to talk about something that is directly affected by space. Ocean tides happen every day all across the world and have a huge effect on navigation and the natural environment.

Tides are the regular rise and fall of water levels along the coast and are essentially very long-period waves that move though the ocean due to the gravitational pull of the moon and sun. This wave originates in the ocean and then move toward the shoreline and makes the level to go up and then go down.

Gravity is one of the major forces that work to create tides. The moon and the sun’s mass work to pull the surface of the ocean water. Since the moon is much closer to the earth than the sun, the gravitational force of it is much greater than the sun. The sun’s effects on generating tides is half of what the moon generates.

The pull of the moon and sun cause the high and low tide though the creation of a bulge of water toward the moon.  The rotation of the earth creates another bulge of water away from the moon. The bulge if water is the high tide. In between is where you have the low tide....

The exception of the Majority Rule.

There is a book out that claims the Burger Court was a conservative court and lead the way to the current conservative judges. Wrong. Some of their decisions could have been conservative, however, most of their social decisions were more reformist than not.

If the Burger court lead to the conservative court of today, it was because for 18 years Warren Burger scared the living guts out of the right-wing. It was definitely a reformist court whereby CIVIL RIGHTS MATTERED.

Earl Warren’s successor, (click here) Warren Burger, a native of Minnesota, had been a judge of the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit for more than a decade. He became Chief Justice in 1969.

One of the most famous of the Court’s rulings involving the conflict between religious freedom and state public schools came under Chief Justice Burger in 1972. It resulted in a victory for three Amish families in rural Wisconsin who were testing the guarantee of religious freedom. They had refused to send their children to public school beyond the eighth grade, asserting that modern secondary education was contrary to the Amish religion and a threat to their children’s salvation. "The Amish . . . have convincingly demonstrated the sincerity of their religious beliefs," said the Court, and the children were free, after completing elementary school, to follow the centuries-old tradition of learning at home.

When the Internal Revenue Service declared in 1970 that private schools discriminating against blacks could no longer claim tax-exempt status, the action went largely unnoticed by the public. In 1983, it became prime-time news when two religious schools having admission policies based on race sought to regain tax-favored status and the case reached the Supreme Court.

Counsel for Bob Jones University and Goldsboro Christian School argued that their policies were based on sincerely held religious beliefs. But the Court ruled that the First Amendment did not prevent denial of tax-favored status. Eliminating racial discrimination in education substantially outweighed any burden placed on the free exercise of religion, according to the eight-to-one majority....

A pregnancy is a pregnancy is a pregnancy and sometimes they are unwanted. A fetus cannot sustain it's self outside the uterus and the uterus belongs to a woman. A woman is impacted by socio-economic dynamics that demand her to make decisions about her future and whether or not she is ready to be a mother and support herself and a child.

It is time to end the hubris Federalist Society judges bring to their practice and end the victims always living in anxiety because of their gender and pregnancy and/or their gender and who they love.

Enough of this already, it is time for the Federalist Society to grow up.

Coney-Barrett's approach to the USA Constitution is completely wrong and out in left field somewhere. Or is it right field? Whatever field she is in she is welcome to stay in it, but, just leave the people of the USA alone. She is not Supreme Court material, because of her prejudice which is considerable. I don't know of any judge in history that actively and openly sought to end the USA Constitution as we know it.

Baleen whales exist by consuming large amounts of algae and krill and plankton.

This is the statue of a Blue Whale in the New York Museum of Natural History. It is suspended from the ceiling. If the oceans continue to deteriorate as I believe they are currently, this is the only Blue Whale our children and grandchildren will understand it's existence.

You see, they aren't whaled anymore. At least they aren't supposed to be. If the Baleen Whales, the Blues, the Fins, the Seis, the Humpbacks and the Minke whales go extinct we may not be around to see it because they will have died from the lack of food in the oceans. If their form of food disappears there won't be enough oxygen to sustain human life.

It’s another dire warning (click here) on the coming extinction of whales, dolphins and porpoises — this one from hundreds of scientists calling for global action to protect the marine mammals.

In a letter, nearly 350 experts describe two species as on the “knife-edge” of extinction — the North Atlantic right whale and the vaquita, a porpoise in the Gulf of California — and express concern for more than half of the 90 living species.

Only a few hundred North Atlantic right whales remain and the number of vaquitas is down to 10, BBC News reported, citing the letter.

The scientists, who hail from 40 countries, blame the sorry state of the aquatic animals on a lack of political will — and call on countries to do more to stop pollution and overfishing. Boat equipment and nets kill 300,000 whales, dolphins and porpoises every year, the BBC reported.

Orthodox? Pope Francis doesn't discern the difference between an orthodox and a regular Catholic. There are just Catholics.

There are Greek Orthodox Catholics, but, all that is about whether or not they are under the structure of the Vatican. At one time there were schisms of Catholics that didn't abide under the authority of the Pope. I think most of that has resolved to the allegiance to the Pope. But, that is another topic.

A justice's religion should never enter the picture in how they practice on the bench. Her faith doesn't bother me so much as her allegiance to the Federalist Society and their desire to see the USA as a flagship for Evangelicals. That is just wrong and victimizes a lot of Americans, including 51 percent of the population in the USA, women. That is a lot of victimization by a justice to the Supreme Court.

I find Coney-Barrett embarrassing. I have never read such hogwash by an academic that deliberately assaults the USA Constitution in order to get a permanent seat on the Supreme Court. She should not have demanded her memberships to an extremist club where they speak in tongues be removed. They will only go back up if she is confirmed. Why take them down? WHAT IS SHE HIDING?

She has previously been criticized by some (click here) on the left for her religious views, with some liberal critics fearing that her beliefs would override her judicial impartiality.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., a fellow Catholic, pressed Barrett on her use of the term "orthodox Catholic" in an article she co-wrote as a law student.

“I’m a product of 19 years of Catholic education. And every once in a while, Holy Mother the Church has not agreed with a vote of mine. And (she) has let me know,” Durbin told Barrett. “You use a term in that article — or you both use a term in that article — I’d never seen before. You refer to 'orthodox Catholics.' What’s an orthodox Catholic?" Durbin asked.

Barrett acknowledged it was "an imperfect term" after which Durbin asked Barrett if she considered herself an orthodox Catholic.

"If you're asking whether I take my faith seriously and I'm a faithful Catholic, I am," Barrett responded. "Although I would stress that my personal church affiliation or my religious belief would not bear in the discharge of my duties as a judge."

There are commercials that come up during the playing of this film. Just skip them as they arise.

You'll have to forgive me, but, I just can't let this go by. There may be a commercial that comes up that is Tom Tillis making the argument that marriage fidelity is the reason he should be re-elected. It doesn't come more corrupt than Tillis, but, alas a man dressed in clothing from the 1950s walking hand in hand with his wife is supposed to erase all his sins including his votes ending the ACA and his anticipated vote for Comey-Barrett corrupting the Supreme Court vote to destroy the ACA/Obamacare. Really? It is a good laugh if it comes up with this video.

The film speaks to the distress being found in Earth's oceans. In my opinion, the oceans are losing their fisheries. I think the fisheries are failing and causing widespread famine within the biological balance of the oceans. Orcas see fishing vessels as a competitor of their food source. Yes, they are that smart.
