Two advice-filled notes (click here) Albert Einstein wrote to a bellboy in Japan 95 years ago, including one that advocated for "a calm and modest life," fetched more than $1.5 million at an auction on Tuesday (Oct. 24).  

In October 1922, Einstein was traveling to Japan to deliver a series of lectures when he received a telegraph announcing that he had won the 1921 Nobel Prize in physics. The physicist was hardly ever short on groundbreaking theories, but found himself short on cash when he wanted to tip a bellboy who had delivered an item to his room at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.

In lieu of a monetary tip, Einstein gave the bellboy two thoughtful notes he had just written on hotel stationary. Einstein told the bellboy to keep the letters, "as their future value may be much higher than a standard tip," according to Winner's Auctions and Exhibitions, in Jerusalem, which auctioned the letters....

For 10 years, Nasa has been flying over the ice caps to chart their retreat. This data is an invaluable record of climate change. But does anyone care? 

...Imagine (click here) a thousand centuries of heavy snowfall, piled up and compacted into stone-like ice atop the bedrock of Greenland, an Arctic island almost a quarter the size of the US. Imagine all of modern human history, from the Neolithic revolution 12,000 years ago – when humans moved from hunting and gathering to agriculture, and from there, eventually, to urban societies – until today. All of the snow that fell on the Arctic during that entire history is gathered up in just the top layers of the ice sheet.

Imagine the dimensions of that ice: 1.71m sq km (656,000 sq miles), three times the size of Texas. At its belly – from the top layer, yesterday’s snowfall, to the bottom layer, which is made of snow that fell out of the sky 115,000-130,000 years ago – it reaches 3,200 metres (10,500ft) thick, nearly four times taller than the world’s highest skyscraper....

...When you fly over entire mountain ranges whose tips barely peek out from under the ice – and these are just the visible ones – it’s possible to imagine what would happen if even a fraction of this quantity of pent-up freshwater were unleashed. You can plainly see how this thing would flood the coasts of the world, from Brooklyn to Bangladesh.

The crew of Nasa’s Operation IceBridge have seen this ice from every imaginable angle. IceBridge is an aerial survey of the polar regions that has been underway for nearly a decade – the most ambitious of its kind to date. It has yielded a growing dataset that helps researchers document, among other things, how much, and at what rate, ice is disappearing from the poles, contributing to global sea-level rises, and to a variety of other phenomena related to climate change....

...In April, I travelled to Kangerlussuaq, in south-west Greenland, and joined the IceBridge field crew – a group of about 30 laser, radar, digital mapping, IT and GPS engineers, glaciologists, pilots and mechanics. What I saw there were specialists who have, over the course of almost 10 years on this mission, mastered the art and science of polar data hunting while, at the same time, watching as the very concept of data, of fact-based discourse, has crumbled in their culture at home.

On each flight, I witnessed a remarkable tableau. Even as Arctic glaciers were losing mass right below the speeding plane, and even as raw data gleaned directly from those glaciers was pouring in on their monitors, the Nasa engineers sat next to their fact-recording instruments, sighing and wondering aloud if Americans had lost the eyes to see what they were seeing, to see the facts....

...But at pre-flight weather meetings, polar ice is mostly of concern to him for the quirky way it might affect that day’s weather.....

...What’s needed is the ability to grasp constant dynamic change....

The caliper of intelligence and experience for this level of science cannot be understated. John Sonntag is at least as valuable as all his instrumentation.

Scientists like Sonntag make the leap from machine data to human understanding in the depth of the meaning of climate and weather to the human experience. Sorry, but, no instrumentation will provide that insight.

Who would want to take the chance of a machine misinterpreting what data means to the human experience?

...Each of the 63 flight plans for this season in the Arctic was the result of months of meticulous planning. A team of polar scientists from across the US sets the research priorities, in collaboration with flight crews, who make sure the routes are feasible; the mission is managed from Nasa’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland.

Sonntag is there at every phase, including at the construction and installation of the scientific instruments, and he is the person in the field responsible for executing the mission....

...Sea levels, which were more or less constant for the past 2,000 years, have climbed at a rate of roughly 1.7mm a year in the past century; in the past 25 years, that rate has doubled to 3.4mm a year, already enough to create adverse effects in coastal areas. A conservative estimate holds that waters will rise roughly 0.9 metres (3ft) by the year 2100, which will place hundreds of millions of people in jeopardy....

The Greenland Icesheet is a real hazard to the countries that line the Atlantic Ocean. The meander of the icesheet is measured to be sure there is not a significant increase to indicate the icesheet could or is becoming unstable. 

...The IceBridge data has also helped create a 3D map of an ice-locked land that no human eyes have ever seen: the territory of Greenland, its mountains, valleys, plains and canyons, and also a clear view of the layers of ice that have grown above it.....

The ice that could potentially fall into or slide into the Atlantic Ocean from Greenland is not a minor issue. It could ultimately cause tsunamis that would wipe out Washington, DC among the coastal areas of every continent, except, Asia and Australia.

Above is a graph from "Fairfax (Virginia) Climate Watch" clearly illustrating the loss of land, but, also displaced populations due to expected sea level rise caused by anthropogentic climate change. The study was conducted in 2013.

No one would expect Virginia to face the same flood problems as New Orleans, but, it is true. The climate crisis effects the lives of many Virginians.

There was no eruption into the troposphere.

Series of large earthquakes hit Bárðarbunga last night. Icelandic Met Office

Four large earthquakes (click here) occurred in the Bárðarbunga volcanic system last night, the largest earthquakes since the 2014-2015 volcanic eruption.

The first earthquake of magnitude 3.9 on the richter scale occured at 23:02 last night, followed by a 3.2 earthquake at 23:03. The third quake hit the volcano at 23:26 and measured 4.7. The fourth earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occured 16 minutes past midnight.

An earthquake measuring 4.1 took place in the volano earlier this week and several earthquakes hit the volcano in September.

Bárðarbunga is the largest and most powerful volcano in Iceland. It is located under the northern part of the Vatnajökull glacier in South Iceland, Europe’s largest glacier. The Bárðarbunga volcanic system is approximately 200 km (120 miles) long.

Earthquakes of magnitude 4.7 are the largest quakes that have occured in the Bárðarbunga caldera since the 2014 eruption. The Holuhraun eruption began on August 31st 2014 and lasted until February 28, 2015. It is the largest eruption in Iceland since 1783 and produced a massive lava field of more than 85 km2 (33 square miles) in the middle of the island.

The Iceland Met Office (click here) has issued a storm warning in North Iceland on Thursday night with winds up to 30-40 metres per second. On election day, Saturday, the weather is going to be cold and possibly snowy in North East Iceland.

Roads in South Iceland are icy, particularly in Mosfellsheiði and on highway no.1 between Selfoss and Hvolsvöllur.

An earthquake at a magnitude of 3.4 (click here) was felt in the town of Selfoss last night. Locals reported cupboards shaking and crockery breaking. An ongoing swarm of earthquakes has continued into the morning. 

The earthquake swarm started at around 4 pm last night and the second largest quake was measured at 2.9 on the Richter scale. 

According to the Iceland Met Office the earthquakes are occurring on a well-known fissure area.  The Met Office will be observing developments closely over the next few days. They do not rule out larger earthquakes occurring in the area but it's just as likely that the swarm will just subside.

To be noted Tropical Depression 18 has developed in the Caribbean Sea while the water vapor was moving from the Greenland-Iceland icesheets and glaciers. The formation of 18 began before the water vapor movement. While it was a formation, it lacked the water vapor content to build to a tropical storm.

Protect the governor. The emergency manager was blamed and charged, but, somehow Snyder is still on the loose.

Flint, MI -- The Flint water crisis (click here) occurred in part because of failures in the state of Michigan's oversight, a new report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says.

Two years in the making, the report says the state Department of Environmental Quality failed to properly oversee and manage the city's change in water sources in April 2014, resulting in the use of lower quality raw water from the Flint River.

"The circumstances surrounding the city's switch to a lower quality water source appear to have been unusual," the report says. "But MDEQ was unprepared to deal with this situation and failed to recognize how the (Lead and Copper Rule) should have been applied, resulting in a confused and ineffective implementation of the LRC in Flint."

Ya think? See, the problem was that the switch was ordered. There was no study leading up to the conversion of one water source to another. Snyder should have ordered a study from the MDEQ to tap the Flint River BEFORE the switch.

THERE WERE NO PROPER PROCEDURES USED. There are ways departments of a state handle themselves and communicate. This was bizarre and literally, MDEQ was stumped when the switch was ordered.

The report says many deficiencies in the state drinking water program stem from inefficient and antiquated data management systems in DEQ and suggests the hiring of additional staff or contractors with specific water data management expertise."Staff departures and retirements have caused a significant loss of expertise and technical knowledge ... staff have not been replaced due to lack of resources and/or hiring constraints, which presents a threat to future implementation of an effective program."...

This is still Snyder. Republicans love to deprive the agencies of sufficient operating monies when it comes to the environment. The department was under attack by a hostile administration, people retired or moved on looking for a job that mattered. What was left was low and inefficient staff.

This is typical of Republican administrations. The people are on their own. Snyder is the worst governor Michigan has ever had and this is more proof. The blame for Flint's water poisoning falls to his office over and over due to his very poor regard for safety and human rights allowing rushed procedures with ineffective monitoring and oversight.

Snyder also has a regulation czar. He is just as responsible as Snyder.

The Greenland Ice meander has to be checked. The movement of glaciers in the north Atlantic needs to be assessed. People live below (in elevation) the glaciers and there needs to be concern for the people.

I might bring attention to the north Atlantic in the upper right corner of the satellite image below. The white streak across the image is melted ice from Greenland and Iceland that has sublimed into water vapor. I am concerned with such ice melt and how the people of those two island countries are doing. I am concerned about flooding.

This is SUDDEN climate change. This is RAPID climate change. The Greenland Ice has to be assessed for "meander" now.

There is a inverted cyclonic vortex flow over the north Atlantic. That is what is pulling the water vapor from Greenland and Iceland down to lower latitudes. There is a heat transfer system offshore of North America. It has a water vapor circulation center in the Caribbean Sea. Literally, the heat laden water vapor from the Caribbean Sea is reaching the Arctic Circle to melt the Greenland and Iceland glaciers. That heat transfer system has been there for the past two days. It had a sibling off the west coast of North America, which the remnants are still visible. The heat transfer is rapid and now the ice from Greenland and Iceland is melting.

Scientists never promised a walk down the primrose path with the climate crisis. They clearly and repeatedly have said RAPID climate change. This is not a natural cycle, it is due to excess greenhouse gases from anthropogenic emissions.

Politicians in the USA just don't listen. They are damn fools.

Oddly,  an article from the New York Times today. The Pope would say it is God speaking to the masses for the degree of coincidence to this new method by Earth to cool down. I don't know about god, but, I am also not as optimistic about the Antarctica glaciers being stable 'enough' for a couple hundred years.:

Two of the frozen continent’s fastest-moving glaciers (click here) are shedding an increasing amount of ice into the Amundsen Sea each year.

The Pine Island and Thwaites glaciers are among the most critical in the world. They are currently holding back ice that, if melted, would raise the world’s oceans by nearly four feet over centuries, an amount that would put many coastal cities underwater....

The ice caps and glaciers have to be monitored for stability through an understanding of movement and mass balance. There can be no shortcuts, it is a matter of public safety. Rising sea levels, unstable ice sheets and plunging into the oceans or seas with potentially catastrophic outcomes is essential to monitor and report. I don't care if it doesn't conveniently fit someone's lousy political agenda.

A painting the Nazis (click here) looted from a Jewish leader of the French Resistance during World War II has been identified, German authorities announced yesterday (Oct. 25)....

...Gurlitt, who died in 2014, had inherited the collection from his father, an art dealer who had been commissioned by the Nazis to sell looted and "degenerate" art abroad. His collection included pieces from famous artists like Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Paul Cézanne....

Democrats need to pay attention, understand the truth and uphold the Iran agreement that benefits allies such as Israel.

Democrats need to tout their solid support for Israel and it's future. The Congress needs to uphold the Iran Agreement and soon.

Jerusalem — If President Donald Trump (click here) moves to scuttle the landmark 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, Israel’s nationalist government can be expected to be the loudest — and perhaps only — major player to applaud.

But the true picture is more complicated than what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might portray: There is a strong sense among his own security establishment that there are few good alternatives, that the deal has benefited Israel, and that U.S. credibility could be squandered in the turbulent Middle East in ways that could harm Israel itself.

That is not to say that Israel’s respected security chiefs are all pleased with every aspect of the Iran deal. But after Netanyahu declared at the United Nations last month that it was time to “fix it or nix it,” the prevailing attitude among security experts seems to be that fixing it is the best way to go....

The FBI was doing it's job. Questions?

Vladamir Putin hated and hates Hillary Clinton. He made that completely obvious when he backed Donald Trump in the USA election of 2016 and promised a nuclear exchange with the USA if Hillary Clinton was elected. If FOX News is trying to make something out of a successful FBI operation, then that speaks of the desperation of FOX News.

As Hillary Clinton (click here) was beginning her job as President Obama’s chief diplomat, federal agents observed as multiple arms of Vladimir Putin’s machine unleashed an influence campaign designed to win access to the new secretary of State, her husband Bill Clinton and members of their inner circle, according to interviews and once-sealed FBI records.

Some of the activities FBI agents gathered evidence about in 2009 and 2010 were covert and illegal....

...Other activities were perfectly legal and sitting in plain view, such as when a subsidiary of Russia’s state-controlled nuclear energy company hired a Washington firm to lobby the Obama administration. At the time it was hired, the firm was providing hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in pro bono support to Bill Clinton’s global charitable initiative, and it legally helped the Russian company secure federal decisions that led to billions in new U.S. commercial nuclear business, records show....

Democrats need to find treatment for their anxiety disorder. All this mess was before Russia destroyed a treaty and invaded Ukraine. Russia was still a member of the G-8. There was every reason to believe Russia was a trading partner interested in moving into a world class power other than just a nuclear power. Russia was one of the BR (Russia) IC countries. A burgeoning economy attracting investment.

...There is no evidence in any of the public records that the FBI believed that the Clintons or anyone close to them did anything illegal. But there’s definitive evidence the Russians were seeking their influence with a specific eye on the State Department....

Then in 2014, all that good stuff changed and the communists with significant political pressure in Russia entered Ukraine.

...Russia (click here) thus finds itself in the questionable company of Burundi, Gabon, Iraq, Afghanistan, Columbia, and Niger as suspects in creating international armed conflicts. The ICC report demolishes Putin’s narrative of the Ukrainian conflict, which paints Russia as an innocent bystander. Following the ICC report and Russia’s angry withdrawal from the international tribunal, there should be no further reference to “civil war,” “separatists,” or “insurgents.” Instead the conflict that has claimed 9,578 lives is an “international armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine.” Another consequence is that Russia, as a party to the conflict, should no longer have a “peacemaker” seat in negotiations in Minsk.

The ICC report is particularly embarrassing for the Kremlin as it tries to peddle its parallel-reality version of the Ukraine conflict to the incoming Donald Trump administration....

One of the reasons President Obama and Chancellor Merkel moved quickly to end Russia's participation in the G8 and wrote sanctions against Russia is because Russia was so far along in 'the trust' that builds strong ties between the prosperity and freedom with The West.

There were a lot of American businesses that could not believe Russia had betrayed their trust and now they faced fiscal losses to their stockholders because of the sanctions. President Obama had no desire to punish any business participating in investment in Russia. Some of these investors were newly involved in international markets, they weren't all Goldman Sachs. But, if Russia was able to continue to build wealth and influence it could compromise the safety of the people of the Ukraine. President Obama could not look the other way for the sake of Wall Street. There were lives at stake and it was the USA standing in the void facilitated by a treaty with Russia, Ukraine and Germany. Either treaties with the USA means something or not.

There was no choice to be made, Russia had violated a very valuable treaty. It was not long ago when the treaty was signed and Ukraine disarmed. There were nuclear weapons and materials in Ukraine that were removed from the country and made inert to cause injury or death ever again. The treaty was huge. It proved disarmament from nuclear weapons can bring peace and prosperity to people rather than investing national treasuries in hideous nuclear weapons.

After the treaty was signed and Ukraine was disarmed little did The West know Russia was involved deeply in Ukraine politics and had made the national Ukraine military helpless to defend the country even with conventional weapons. Yanukovych weaponized the oligarchs transferring military power from the national military to militias in control by oligarchs. Ukrainians were helpless.

Putin carried on about a coupe in Ukraine which continues even today. Who knows. There were sharp divisions in the country and if the truth be known the coupe occurred in 2004, silently, when the Ukraine Constitution was rewritten. But, that is not arguable according to the World Court when it heard the case regarding Ukraine. The treaty absolutely prohibited Russia from intervening with any Ukraine issue. Russia violated the treaty and today Russia does not even have the right to mitigate Minske.

But, as to the fact Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State was secretly stalked by Russia to gain influence and information is old news. The FBI did it's job. I am confident every Secretary of State of the USA was visited by an agent at some point in their tenure stating facts about potential contacts and agreements were ill-fated and had to be abandoned.

So all this mess FOX News is spewing as if it is new information is horse hockey. FOX News is horse hockey by nature. FOX News knows only sensational reporting because it's founder, Murdoch, is used to arguing with the Queen as if the people were powerless as an Australian. That is the issue with FOX News. They have a foreign methodology thGot at is bullying everyone in hear shot. That is the method of Australian media. FOX News is bizarre and never, ever are they mainstream news.

The Democrats have to simply say, "Oh, where did you hear that on FOX News?"

Practice it, "Oh, where did you hear that on FOX News?" AGAIN: "Oh, where did you hear that on FOX News?" Now, with spirit: "Oh, where did you hear that on FOX News?" As if the country's sovereignty counts on it, "Oh, where did you hear that on FOX News?"

FOX News, in reality, could be solely responsible for the danger the American people are facing today because of a Big Mouth President that finds solace with FOX News and pacifying him that he is still in control of his base. FOX News will carry out any scandal, be it a lie or not, in order to control their power with the electorate. If they control the electorate their power is unending and influence with the US Republicans that bow to their power. How many votes did FOX News own?

The Democrats need to find their backbone and stand up for the people of this country in the face of any FOX News tirade. The Democrats need to do their job!

ICC: Crimea is occupied by Russia, not a part of Russia 

This meeting in the White House was a travesty!

Got that, Mr. Trump. Crimea is occupied by Russia and it's people don't want war as is the case along the Russian border. I cannot believe Rand-McNally Atlas was intimidated by Vladimir Putin to change their own maps in the face of international law otherwise. It is sickening the cowardice that exists in all this.

Authorities are looking for missing digital clues.

He wanted to kill people. I don't believe there is a motive other than that. He collected weapons and wondered why he did it in the first place and then realized he expected the government to turn on the people someday. That is what "Preppers" (click here) believe. It is a strange mindset and I can imagine a person simply deciding to start his own war in hopes others will join in. I think it is that simple.

While investigators (click here) are no closer to establishing what drove Vegas sniper Stephen Paddock to carry out his sick massacre, they have uncovered his alarming search history.

Authorities investigating the shooting that killed 58 concertgoers and injured more than 500 others have found internet search techniques used by local police for breaching rooms in standoff situations, a law-enforcement official reportedly told the Wall Street Journal.

The official reportedly said Paddock searched for information about how Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department or SWAT teams force their way into rooms or buildings.

The internet query and the missing hard drive are two more pieces of the puzzle authorities are yet to solve. However, ABC News reported Paddock is believed to have removed the hard drive before fatally shooting himself.

Investigators suspect gunman Stephen Paddock removed the hard drive from the laptop after opened fire from his high-rise suite at the Mandalay Bay hotel casino into a crowd at a country music concert, killing 58 people and wounded hundreds of others, an official said.

Investigators have been combing through every aspect of Paddock's life - from family, friends and associates to his travel patterns, health and finances.

The hard drive hasn't been found, according to the official, and the absence of digital clues adds yet another puzzling aspect to the investigation as authorities try to figure out what might've led the 64-year-old high-stakes gambler to commit the mass killing....

There is no conclusion the corporate tax cut Trump wants would do anything for the average citizen.

Would American households (click here) really see an average income increase of $4,000 a year if President Donald Trump succeeds in cutting the corporate income tax? Don’t count on it. This claim is dubious at best.

Consider this simple arithmetic:

• There were 125,819,000 households in the U.S. last year, according to the Census Bureau. An average increase of $4,000 for each household would amount to a total income gain of more than $503 billion annually.
• But the U.S. collected just $297 billion in corporate income taxes in fiscal year 2017, which ended Sept. 30, according to the U.S. Treasury.

So let’s say that Trump’s proposal to drop the top corporate rate to 20 percent (from the current 35 percent) reduces the corporate tax accordingly by $127 billion. How can that spur an income gain of $500 billion?...

$297 billion - $127 billion = $170 billion in corporate tax to the federal government.

The president’s Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) doesn’t specify exactly how it arrived at the $4,000 per household estimate....

...In its report, the CEA adds, “When we use the more optimistic estimates from the literature, wage boosts are over $9,000 for the average U.S. household.” That would amount to a $1.1 trillion annual income gain from simply reducing a corporate tax burden that is currently only $297 billion.

That $9,000 estimate is wrong, however, according to the very economist whose work the CEA cites. Mihir A. Desai, a professor of finance at Harvard, says his work doesn’t support such a conclusion at all. He told the New York Times that the actual income gain would be $800.

“I’m a believer in corporate tax reform, and I’m a believer in corporate tax cuts, and I believe they would go to workers,” he told the Times. “But I don’t believe those numbers add up.”

It’s true that economists now generally agree that cutting the corporate rate would eventually produce some income gain for individuals, via increased business investment and worker productivity. But exactly how much remains one of the most debated subjects in economics....

Get this. The Individual Income Tax is the largest source of income to the federal treasury.

It's tax deadline day, (click here) and as many people around Wisconsin file their returns with the Internal Revenue Service, it's worth pointing out that those income taxes amount to a big slice of revenue for the U.S. government — the biggest, in fact.

Lindsay Koshgarian is the research director for the National Priorities Project, a nonpartisan nonprofit group that strives to make the federal budget accessible for members of the public. She said the overall revenues the federal government will bring in this year are likely to amount to about $3.2 trillion, with almost half of that coming from individual income taxes....

For the sake of argument, let's say the INDIVIDUAL income and others are the same as 2015 at $3.2 trillion for 2017. The corporate income tax that closed out the end of September is $297 billion. That would leave the rest of the country to pay $ 2,903,000,000. 

$297 billion is 9.3 percent of the income to the federal treasury with a continuing deficit and debt. 

The INDIVIDUAL pays through payroll taxes and direct pay to the treasury 79.1 percent of the income received by the US Treasury.

There is a very big IF not accounted for by the author above. He does not discuss the TREND by corporations to invest abroad. Mr. Trump knows corporations are investing abroad and/or simply offshoring funds because he talks about repatriating foreign monies all the time.

So, while there is SPECULATION (otherwise known as gambling) a cut in corporate taxes MIGHT bring about some jobs hence an increase in household income for working harder; it won't make a significant difference in the USA where corporate investment is low.

When corporations invest in the USA where exactly are they investing? They are looking for the guaranteed rate of interest, no different than the average American.

Companies including Ford Motor Co., Applied Materials and Rockwell Collins are joining the what has been a record $1.1 trillion rush to the bond market through March 24, according to Bloomberg data. The stampede comes as the European Central Bank's bond purchases are culling a large portion of company debt available in Europe. And, perhaps more importantly, as investors continue to seek opportunities to lock in the highest available yields consistent with relatively low credit risk. It also comes as President Trump is pushing an agenda that includes tax cuts, infrastructure spending and deregulation, which if enacted are expected to boost corporate profits...

It isn't as though corporations are abandoning the USA. That is not the case. There is a reason why unemployment has been low. There is definitely investment in the USA, including the construction sector.

...The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office — which had previously assumed that stockholders bore the entire burden of the corporate income tax — revised its thinking in 2012 and began assuming workers bear 25 percent.

And the following year, the equally nonpartisan staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation — the in-house tax experts for Congress — also began assuming that workers bear 25 percent of the corporate tax burden.

The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center didn’t go quite as far, but even it began in 2012 to assume that 20 percent of the corporate tax ultimately falls on workers....

Corporations are people too, my friends. So why are they making their employees pay their taxes?

In its analysis, CBO assumed that households bear the economic cost of the taxes they pay directly, such as individual income taxes and the employee’s share of payroll taxes. CBO further assumed—as do most economists—that employers pass on their share of payroll taxes to employees by paying lower wages than they would otherwise pay. Therefore, CBO included the employer’s share of payroll taxes in households’ before tax income and in households’ taxes.

CBO also assumed that the economic cost of excise taxes falls on households according to their consumption of taxed goods (such as tobacco and alcohol). Excise taxes on intermediate goods, which are paid by businesses, were attributed to households in proportion to their overall consumption. CBO assumed that each household spent the same amount on taxed goods as a similar household with comparable income is reported to spend in the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Expenditure Survey....

There is no need to lower income tax rates to corporations. As a matter of fact the loopholes need to be closed and the law regarding payment of payroll withholding tax be paid directly from the company while upholding the wages already in place.

UNIONS, UNIONS AND MORE UNIONS. Is there any reason why they are hated?

Corporations in the USA enjoy a great deal of "Corporate Welfare." There are laws currently that, if enforced, would immediately improve the wages of workers. Corporations pass all their costs onto employees and/or consumers. It is "Corporate Welfare" and it should not be tolerated.

So, Trump's assuming if there was a tax cut, corporations would change their methods of taxing the individual to pay their corporate taxes. That is a lie. There are no guarantees corporations will finally pay their own taxes. None. The laws that exist should be enforced to return FULL wages to the employees. 

Now, this method of having the employees pay their taxes in lower wages DEFINITELY IS TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!

...Finally, a word about the track record of the man behind the $4,000 claim, Kevin Hassett, chairman of Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers.

Hassett is co-author of “Dow 36,000,” which was published in September 1999 when the Dow Jones Industrial Average was hovering below 12,000 after a big run-up during what we now call the dot-com bubble. Rather than tripling in value, as Hassett and co-author James Glassman argued was possible and justified by stock values, the DJIA sank to just above 7,700 three years later, in September 2002. And it didn’t top 12,000 until October 2006, seven years after the book was published.

Now the Dow is over 23,000, but still a long way from 36,000 more than 18 years after Hassett’s book appeared....

You can go down the line of so called moral issues of the Christian Right and it is lined with White Supremacists, including the Pro-Life Movement.

"Solutions Fund PAC" (click here) is the primary funder of the Roy Moore campaign. I imagine they would do the same for Arpaio if asked. I bet Moore has never seen that kind of money before.

And it’s relying on a little-known donor with ties to President Donald Trump’s billionaire backers to finance an ad campaign on the issue....

Respect the flag, don't respect the protest. White Supremacists.

Washington ― In 2005, the foundation run by Judge Roy Moore, now the Republican nominee for a Senate seat in Alabama, accepted a $1,000 donation from a group founded by Willis Carto, a white supremacist, Nazi supporter and World War II vet who famously said he regretted fighting for the U.S instead of Germany.

The Foundation to Defend the First Amendment is one of several nonprofit groups Carto used to shuffle money around to his anti-Semitic and racist conspiracy publications, to fund Holocaust deniers, and, apparently, to donate to Moore’s nonprofit. The Carto-founded group touts its support for Moore and his Foundation for Moral Law on its web site. The contribution to Moore’s group stands out as one of just a handful it has made to organizations not explicitly involved in Holocaust denial....

Roy Moore is a White Supremacist and so is Joe Arpaio (click here).

...Eagle-eyed JMG (click here) readers Gay Old Lady and Alex noticed in my post earlier today that among the "We Stand With Roy Moore" signs at yesterday's anti-gay rally in Alabama were signs provided by the League Of The South, an SPLC-certified racist hate group. Most prominent in the photos tweeted out by Sanctity of Marriage Alabama was the above sign held by a (hopefully unwitting) black woman....

...BuzzFeed reports that Moore (click here) addressed the Council of Conservative Citizens in 1995, while an Alabama 16th Judicial Circuit Judge. Moore was elected chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, for the second time, in 2012.

The report includes a copy of the group's newsletter, the "Citizens Informer" which features a picture of Moore and other speakers at the group's semi-annual national conference.

The paper notes Moore had gained recognition for hanging a copy of the Ten Commandments in his courtroom. The stance later vaulted Moore to national prominence. It also led to his eventual dismissal as the state's chief justice in 2003, after he refused to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama Supreme Court.

The same CCC newsletter from 20 years ago also notes CCC convention delegates were greeted by then-Jefferson County Commissioner (later chair) Bettye Fine Collins and Birmingham City Councilman Dr. Jimmy Blake.

The CCC is the nation's largest white nationalist group, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. The SPLC says the group is a reincarnation of the White Citizens Councils that were formed to resist desegregation in the 1950s and 1960s....

There is something Joe Arpaio has in common with Roy Moore. They both were in contempt of court. I doubt Arpaio has received monies from White Supremacists, but, it would be interesting to find the records of his elections as sheriff.

The White Supremacist agenda is cloaked with so called moral issues such as Christian Marriage. But, one has to wonder how many White Supremacists were/are in the Pro-Life movement.

You can respect (click here) the rule of law or you can pardon former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio. You cannot do both. So if and when President Trump grants mercy to his fellow birther, his political bedfellow, his loyal partner in harassing the nation's immigrants, he'll be sending the strongest possible signal yet that the administration's tough-on-crime talk about "law and order" and a restoration of morality in enforcement is, in truth, a load of hooey.

I have covered Arpaio's antics in Maricopa County for a decade or more, and it is hard to name a more lawless lawman. He didn't just commit criminal contempt when he violated a federal court order halting his unconstitutional immigration roundups. He did so gleefully, boastfully, publicly—daring federal authorities to do something about it. And then, when they did, when federal prosecutors called him on his misconduct, Arpaio wasn't even willing or able to muster the courage of his race-related convictions. He pretended instead that he had been ignorant all along....

Anyone know John Burt?

John Burt is a member of the KKK. He ran a place called  "Our Father's House." "Our Father's House" was a place for unwed mothers. John Burt was arrested in 2003 for molesting a 15 year old at "Our Father's House." John Burt is a White Supremacist and anti-abortion activist. He is still in prison.

John Burt called himself the spiritual adviser to Michael Griffin and Paul Hill. Every hear of those thugs?

During his trial, (click here) Griffin's defense attorneys argued that activist John Burt "brainwashed" Griffin and drove him to commit murder. At the time, Burt was the Northwest Florida regional director of the national pro-life group Rescue America.

Burt was also a retired U.S. Marine and former member of the Ku Klux Klan (though he claims to have "abandoned the group's racist doctrine when he became a born-again Christian") and a self-professed "spiritual adviser" to a group of activists who bombed three abortion clinics in 1984.

In 2005, Burt was convicted of five counts of lewd or lascivious conduct for improperly touching and propositioning a 15-year-old girl at the home, and sentenced to 18 years in state prison....
