The article below appeared before the 2012 election. ICE has been doing what is required of them.

Given the dialogue of the right wing it had occurred to me why there has been no immigration reform.

...As of July, (click here) Obama deported 1.4 million illegal immigrants since the beginning of his administration — that's 1.5 times more immigrants on average than Bush deported every month, according to official numbers from the Department of Homeland Security*. But that's only part of Obama's deportation strategy: The administration's stated goal is to prioritize the deportation of criminal, dangerous illegal immigrants. And it's promised to make a new program called Secure Communities mandatory by 2013, which would force local law enforcement to share fingerprints of those arrested with the Department of Homeland Security, which has immigration records, through the FBI....

I've heard numbers are reaching 2 million of deportations....

The Obama Administration is enforcing the law. One of the reasons was to prove to the Republicans that the border barriers and Border Patrol enforce the immigration laws. Everyone has been working as hard as they can to prove the new law would be effective in HOPES there would be immigration reform laws passed. 

When the USA embarked on immigration reform it was to bring 11 million people already here, working and supporting families into the USA legally. 

The House Republicans really don't want undocumented workers in the USA. They believe those that perform illegal acts should not be tolerated. If one accepts those constraints on immigration reform what would be a strategy to follow?

Reform or the avoidance of it while deportations escalate and border crossings drop?

The premise to current immigration reform incorporates the idea no further illegal immigration can be tolerated before the laws are passed. The reason is because Reagan passed immigration reform and the borders were never secured to prevent further crossings, hence, an additional 11 million are now in the USA.

So, why not have a back door immigration reform law that builds fences, stops border crossings and deports undocumented workers?

11 million - 2 million = 9 million more to go + about 100,000 per year still finding a way across from Mexico.

The Republicans already have their immigration reform, it is just a matter of waiting it out and finding ways to escalate the deportations.

President Obama needs to sign an Executive Order that simply stops deportations of any undocumented worker that has not committed violent or significant drug crimes affiliated with the cartels.

The Republicans have no intention of passing immigration reform. Rubio put on a good show though.
