"Good Night, Moon"

Waxing Crescent

Nearly New Moon

1.9 percent full

1.3 days old

Will you see (click here) the young whisker-thin waxing crescent moon hovering over the horizon after sunset on Sunday, June 9? It’ll be quite a challenge to spot this pale ghost of a moon in the harsh glow of twilight. You’ll need a crystal-clear sky, an unobstructed horizon in the direction of sunset and probably binoculars.

In general, (click here) it's really tough to spot a moon less than 20 hours old - 20 hours after the moon passed more or less between the Earth and sun.
