The dialogue in the USA media regarding the protests in the Middle East have gotten to be more than silly.

I sincerely do not believe the US 5th Fleet is in jeopardy and I am confident most of the nation believes the same.  In case the USA media hasn't noticed, the protesters are UNARMED.

I haven't heard anything about mutiny.  It really seems to be a 'local issue.'

...They say the project has been in the works since 2003 in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. But it coincides with a sharp increase in Iranian naval activity in the gulf in recent weeks.

Work on the upgrade began late in May and is scheduled for completion in five years. The expansion will allow U.S. forces to cope with the growing number of threats in the region's strategic waterways.

It will allow the Bahrain facility to handle up to 30 percent more ships than the 300 vessels a year it currently deals with as U.S. naval operations are ramped up, in large part because of the Iranian threat.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, which oversees Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs and controls strategic missile units, have had a series of naval and air maneuvers in the gulf in recent weeks....

I am sure if WWIII breaks out in the Gulf because of the protests we'll all know without a doubt.  Somehow, I see all this alarm as a 'non-issue.'  I appreciate, as many others do, the attention to detail, but, a good investigative reporter might find the 5th Fleet prepared to meet the challenges of unarmed demonstrators and the consequences.  I believe it was Secretary Gates and Secretary Clinton calling for 'restraint' in the face of these protests.  Yes?

Okay, then...

...The tiny island nation of Bahrain plays a big role in America's Middle East strategy. In fact, more than 6,000 U.S. military personnel and contractors are located just five miles from where government security forces violently put down demonstrations this week.
Bahrain is also home to the U.S. Fifth Fleet, a major logistics hub for the U.S. Navy ships. The island is located halfway down the Persian Gulf, just off the coast of Saudi Arabia, and is something of a rest stop for U.S. Navy ships cruising the waters of the Gulf.
"It has facilities that can provide support to our ships, including, you know, fuel, water provisions, resupply," retired Rear Adm. Steve Pietropaoli says....
