There is only one way to view guns among the public.

Sports that are well controlled to provide the necessary enjoyment without 'reasonably' any danger past what is inherent to the sport itself.  ie:  Hunting, target shooting.

And to NEVER provide more 'fire power' 'on the street' than what law enforcement has to control it.  Swat teams are NOT 'the baseline' law enforcement officer either.

Everythiing outside those social dynamics has to be controlled. 

The government 'schedules' illegal drugs.  Well.  What are they waiting for?

In the general public, where dangerous weapons are NOT available they will not cause deaths and injury.  Lougner would not have been able to 'covertly' carry out his agenda without 'permission' from society to have access.  This should be an example to all legislators to the potential for far more than happened in this instance.
