Forests are very important habitat.

The third type of forest in New York State is the Oak-Hickory Forest. It lives primarily about across one-fifth of the land of the state and just beyond the coastal forest.

The trees found in this forest are:

Northern Red Oak and the Southern Red Oak
Black Oak 
Scarlet Oak 
White Oak
Chestnut Oak
Shumard Oak
Pignut Hickory
Mockernut Hickory
Bitternut Hickory
American Chestnut (understory)
Flowering Dogwood
Sassafras
Haphornbeam
Hackberry
Green Hawthorn
