Jay Leno Goes Completely 'SiCKO' with Michael Moore
'SiCKO' Health Care Card
As seen on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
You now have the opportunity to print and carry your very own "'SiCKO' Health Care Card." Playing the 'SiCKO' card has worked for a family in DeBary, Florida, whose daughter suffered profound hearing loss and was denied a cochlear implant. Her father sent a letter to Cigna asking, "has your
CEO ever been in a film before?" Before he knew it, his daughter's denial was overturned. It also worked for a family in Flint, Michigan who was stuck with a $66,000 medical bill until they posted their healthcare horror story on YouTube. Click here to see what happened next.
Download the PDF of the card below and follow these simple guidelines:
Carry the card in your wallet with your insurance card.
If denied treatment, show your SiCKO card to your doctor/insurer.
Ask your insurer if they'd like to be in Michael Moore's next movie, DVD, or appear on MichaelMoore.com.
Tell them that, if denied, you will seek coverage from your local media.
E-mail your story to
michael@michaelmoore.com.

Mike's Challenge

My Challenge to the Presidential Candidates
Posted July 25, 2007 12:01 PM (EST)
The American government isn't afraid to hand out free health care. Senior citizens get it. Veterans get it. As SiCKO shows you, even the detainees at Guantanamo Bay get it.
So, too, do our federal elected officials. It doesn't matter if they are Republicans or Democrats, young or old, healthy or sick -- they are entitled to free, government-provided health insurance. They don't have to worry about being able to pay for medical help -- even if many of their constituents do.
When Senator Sherrod Brown was running for a seat in the House of Representatives over 10 years ago, he saw something wrong with this. He pledged not to accept his free government health care until everyone in the United States had the same luxury. (He's still waiting.)

'SiCKO' 9/11

How to Help the September 11th Rescue Workers
8/11 for 9/11: On 8/11/07
The Weinstein Company will donate 11% of their profits from 'SiCKO' to the 9/11 rescue workers who are not receiving the care that they should get. Remember, if we had universal health care, the 9/11 rescue workers wouldn't be going through this struggle right now. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks...
Urge Congress to Support Legislation: Support the 9/11 rescue workers by asking your congressperson to support
H.R.1638.
"
Who is my congressperson?"
"
Is my congressperson a cosponsor?"
If your congressperson is not a cosponsor of this comprehensive 9/11 health care legislation for the sick and injured,
contact your congressperson and demand that he or she give our 9/11 heroes the same level of care as the detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

...a letter from Michael Moore

See the Movie, Start the Revolution ...a letter from Michael Moore
Friends,
I am overwhelmed by the response to "Sicko." And I'm not just talking about all the wonderful, heart-felt letters you've sent me and the stories you've shared with me about the abuse you've suffered from our health care system.
No, I'm talking about how thousands of you are taking matters into your own hands and using the movie to do something. From Seattle to New England, each day I learn of numerous groups holding meetings or dinners after the movie to discuss it and to plot a course for action. A church in Plano, TX took its weekly bible study group to see "SiCKO." 70 people crammed into a Wisconsin coffee shop's back room. Groups are plotting over pancakes in Illinois and microbrew in Missouri. E-mail addresses are being exchanged in theater lobbies. A Connecticut group is inviting legislators to see "Sicko" and
keeping a tally on their website. Local groups have been buying out theaters to have special screenings for their members. Information tables are set up, literature is distributed, action groups are formed.

Hinchey calls for Bush, Cheney to be censured
Kingston Daily Freeman
U.S. REP. Maurice Hinchey plans to introduce two resolutions in the House of Representatives calling for censures of President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and other administration officials, the congressman's office announced on Thursday.
Hinchey's resolutions, companions to ones proposed on Sunday by U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., seek to formally admonish the Bush administration for misleading the American people about the reasons for invading Iraq, mismanaging the war and the military occupation of Iraq and abusing the Constitution through such practices as warantless surveillance, according to a prepared statement from the Hurley Democrat.

Michael Moore's "Sicko" will make you sick
By Tom Watkins /
Observer & Eccentric
Michael Moore's new film, "Sicko," is a communal experience that begins the moment you stand in line to get tickets and continues through the laughter and moans you hear during the film to the tears and outrage you see expressed as you exit the theater. This is more than a movie, it's an experience to share with others.
Michael Moore has done it again. He has sparked a hot conversation that has the potential to start a raging fire under our national politicians to actually do something about something that everyone admits is a problem. He has placed our system of health care under a microscope for all to see - and the sight is not pretty. Sicko shows that the only ones getting healthy under our system of care are the members of the health care industrial complex: giant drug companies, mega-hospitals and health insurers that victimize people to maximize profits.

'Issues' ...by Amy Branham
I'm tired of hearing about the next Presidential election already. I'm tired of hearing who has raised how much money and I'm really sick and tired of hearing about Hillary and Obama, Romney and Giuliani. I don't give a damn how much Edwards spends on a hair cut. I don't care how many wives Giuliani has had, and I really am not interested in Romney's religion or anything about Hillary. Frankly, I'm tired of the Bush/Clinton/Bush cycle and hope with every fiber of my being that we get out of that this election term.
The talking heads of our media are acting like my old cocker spaniel, Jake, that piddled on the floor when he got too excited. The election is still over a year in the future. There are so many other things going on in the world that are deserving of our attention and our time. In fact, many things are MORE deserving of our time.
Here's my list of things that are more important than the long list of Presidential Candidates:

The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On
This absorbing documentary follows Kenzo Okuzaki--a veteran of Japan's WWII campaign in New Guinea--as he searches out those responsible for the mysterious deaths of several soldiers in his unit. Though he holds Emperor Hirahito accountable for all the suffering caused by WWII, he painstakingly tracks down former military officers and accuses them of specific war crimes, often times abusing them verbally and physically. Director Kazua Hara's subtle cinema verite not only captures the zeal of Okuzaki's lifelong mission, but also exposes the atrocities committed by the Japanese military against its own soldiers. The film created such controversy in Japan upon release that no major distributor would touch it. "The most amazing piece of filmmaking" (Michael Moore). Winner of the Caligari Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival. In Japanese with English subtitles.

BIG PhRMA, BIG KaRMA
The drugs may be free but the bus costs us plenty
By David Schankula /
ACE Weekly
Last Friday, help finally arrived for the sick and poor in Lexington, KY -- and it came in grand style.
A 45-foot long bright orange bus parked itself in front of the History Museum on Main Street and Mr. Montel Williams, talk show host and celebrity spokesperson for America's pharmaceutical companies, emerged from the tinted confines of an accompanying black stretch limousine.
Flanked by a handful of politicians and a gaggle of press handlers, Mr. Williams delivered a rousing speech. He shared his struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and explained its debilitating effects. Were it not for $2,000 worth of drugs each month, he would be unable to get out of bed in the morning. But, and Mr. Williams put this demurely, he is in a blessed and rare position for he has the means to afford the drugs. Many of our brothers and sisters, he reminded us, are not so lucky.

Clinton, Obama trade barbs in Quad-City Times interviews
By Ed Tibbetts /
Quad-City Times
TODAY: (Updated 2:16 p.m.) In separate interviews with the Quad-City Times today, Democratic presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama tangled over Obama’s statement at the YouTube debate Monday that he would be willing to meet in the first year of his presidency with the leaders of countries antagonistic to the United States.
Clinton called Obama’s comments “irresponsible” and “naive.”
Obama countered by accusing the Clinton campaign of hatching a “fabricated controversy” and suggested that her position put her on the same track as the Bush administration.

'Cry Wolf!' ...by Dan DeWalt
As his Iraq adventure disintegrates before his eyes, and as more and more Americans are unwilling to give him any benefit of the doubt, George W. Bush is once again pulling out the let's scare 'em with terrorism card.
And while there is no doubt that this despicable ploy is just that, we should not fall into the trap of only accusing him of crying wolf. Because, putting aside the lies that our government dishes out everyday, there is no question that at this point, there are indeed terrorists who would love nothing more than to launch an attack in The United States.
If a successful attack should happen, and all we've been doing is accusing Bush of raising the level of fear, then we'll immediately find ourselves on the defensive with many Americans rallying around the President once again as the only one to "keep us safe."

Did you know?
One fourth of the Iraq war budget alone could fund healthcare for every uninsured person in this country.
Think what the trillions of dollars wasted on war, occupation and destruction could do for the people:
• Provide free medicine for all of our seniors and chronically ill.
• Change the dismal statistics of infant mortality in major cities like Detroit, Baltimore and Washington D.C. where the mortality rates for African American and poor children rival impoverished countries abroad;
