GDP per capita: $40,100

Poverty USA: The Working Poor
More than two-thirds of all poor families with children included one or more individuals who worked in 2003. What’s more, family members in working-poor families with children typically worked combined totals of 46 weeks per year.
The U.S. Census Bureau defines poor families as those with cash incomes of less than $14,680 a year for a family of three – or $18,810 for a family of four. In 2003, the average poor family had an income of $8,858, or $738.00 per month.

Comparing China and the USA should be like comparing apples to oranges. However when you realize the per capita income in China is based on the fact the population there is 3.7 times more people. the per capita income in China if there was the same population as the USA would be about $20.720. China is also a socialized system whereby there is government health care. So, the spending dynamics are different. China has a lot of problems but with a GDP of 9.1% as of 2004 which is the year all these statistics are based things are getting better all the time.
China:
GDP - 9.1%
GDP per capita - $5,600
Population below poverty line - 10%
The Chinese Economy
By October 1, 1999, the PRC had undergone a glorious yet tortuous course of 50 years, amid great changes in Chinese society.
Before the founding of New China in 1949, China's highest yearly outputs of major industrial and agricultural products were 445,000 tons of yarn, 22.79 billion meters of cloth, 61,880,000 tons of coal, 320,000 tons of crude oil, 6 billion kwh of electric energy production, 150 million tons of grain, and 849,000 tons of cotton.
Since the founding of New China, especially in the 20 years after the start of reform and opening to the outside world in 1978 China has made great achievements in economic construction and social development.
In 1998, the GDP was 7,955.3 billion yuan, an increase of 6.4 times over 1978, at constant prices; the outputs of some major industrial and agricultural products, such as grain, cotton, meat, edible oil, coal, steel, cement, cloth and TV sets, leapt from a backward position to first place in the world.

As of 2003 the population according to the USA census bureau of the USA is estimated to be 290,809,777. Of that approximately 50.9% are women or 148,022,176. Of that approximately 38,041,699 are under 18 years of age. All female statistics.
The total number of American companies cited above is less than 1000. Being generous and realizing perhaps 25% of the adult females over 18 needs unskilled jobs each company would have to need over 27 thousands employees to match that need assuming manufacturing jobs pay well.
Below is the link to the USA Economic Census of 2002. The number of retail sales establishments are over 1 million. The number of manufacturing establishments are one third of that. A quick look at this table reveals primarily low paying jobs realizing everything listed from Retail Trade down are primarily service economy jobs.

The USA is not in good condition when it comes to even it's infrastructure to create good paying jobs.

Material Girl preformed and sung by MaDonna
Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
I think they’re o.k.
If they don’t give me proper credit
I just walk away
They can beg and they can plead
But they can’t see the light, that’s right
’cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always mister right, ’cause we are
Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl
Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
That’s all right with me
If they can’t raise my interest then i
Have to let them be
Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don’t let them play
Only boys who save their pennies
Make my rainy day, ’cause they are
Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl
Living in a material world [material]
Living in a material world
Living in a material world [material]
Living in a material world
Boys may come and boys may go
And that’s all right you see
Experience has made me rich
And now they’re after me, ’cause everybody’s
Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl
A material, a material, a material, a material world
Living in a material world [material]
Living in a material world
A material, a material, a material, a material world
Living in a material world [material]
Living in a material world

July 19, 2005/ Quintana, Texas. Noted beside the surfer which is the subject of the picture there is a boat at the end of the jetty and over the top wave one can see something 'mechanical.' I believe that is a fishing boat with both booms deployed in the rough surf. The photographer states: Surfer about to challenge the large swells generated by Hurricane Emily as she neared landfall oon the northern Mexico coast. This part of the Texas coast was far enough away from the center of Emily to have rideable surf. Seconds after this photo was taken the surfer was paddling toward the end of the jetty. Notice the boat washed up on the jetty. The photo was taken July 19 in Quintana, TX, around 50 miles southwest of Galveston.
July 23, 2005. Tropical Storm Franklin is in the Atlantic off the coast of Northern Florida. It's winds are at 45 mph and might organize a little more. The coastal community will probably receive rain from the peripheral circulation as it is expected to stay offshore. I think Franklin has some potential yet. There are a couplr of rotation centers in the lower right corner of the satellite picture. I believe the storm in the upper midwest is from Emily as well as the circualation center of the Yukatan again. I am not saying Emily is reorganizing but there is some residual it would seem to me. There is a remarkable vortex in the right upper hemisphere of Earth in the Mid Atlantic. It is interesting in a 12 hour loop.
