Study predicts city flood threat due to warming
Below are a couple of pictures from the beginning of March 2005. One is The Detroit River at flood stage and the other is Chicago Sky Line with snow. Needless to say if this level of perscipitation continues there won't be streets in cities anymore there will be waterways such as Venice, Italy.
The problem is those structures were never built on stilts to survive long term exposure to water. In the case of Boston if the salt way wedge gets to higher volumes than any fresh water bays, the city will lose not only it's fresh water fisheries, lakes and streams it will lose it's fresh water supply.
The other aspect of this chronic Great Lakes issue is to note the Chicago picture. In the background is a very, very low hanging cloud bank. It could be argued the peculiar cloud bank is just snow falling and that might be but the foreground of the picture shows no other snowfall.
The point is I have observed many cloud banks like this and have some pictures of same which I need to post to this blog, but, that is characteristic of a dense Global Warming System with losts and losts of varying layers of complex air systems above it. They also have the characteristics of pre-tornadic activity.

Europe Satellite. A Vortex dominates the climate. Oddly while southern Europe received bad weather? If you will note at the top of this picture is Iceland, the very southern tip? The weather in Reykjavik, Iceland is mostly cloudy and 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Well above freezing. Iceland where snow is rarely seen now and the sea routes are opeing over the Arctic Circle.

It was a crystal clear sky in North Carolina last night...
...I was coming home from Greensboro, North Carolina when I realized there was a New Moon. There was no Moonlight in the sky. The sky was completely black. I found an out of the way location around midnight and stared at the sky for some time. I could see the most distant stars glimmering in the night sky with the naked eye. There was not a sound in the area. The wind was silient and as I stood there looking at the Big and Little Dipper, the North Star, Orin's Belt, I recalled something.
The Wilson Observatory.

The Wilson Obseratory
It is a station of Harvard College located in California with a view of Glendale and Centeral Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean, "ON A VERY CLEAR DAY."
As I viewed this incredible sky in the wee hours after midnight it occurred to me we have a physicist by the name of Bryan that is a 'Naked Eye Sky Viewer' Nut. He loves to make skyviewing easy and fun. He thinks it is a novel way of being interesting. He's right. It was a beautiful sky and one rarely available.
The 'starry - starry' night of the Wilson Observatory is a very rare find indeed. So, rare one realizes it takes an act of God for Wilson to find it's scientific wonder. I guess that is why Wilson has a MONASTERY on it's grounds.
http://www.mtwilson.edu/vir/mon/mon.htm
The longer I enjoyed the view after midnight on a rare occassion of a cloudless sky in North Carolina with all that silence surrounding me I drifted into outer space longing for the even more beautiful pictures of Hubble.
It occurred to me all of a sudden that the draconian and stupidly regressive administration in DC was most probably replacing Hubble with the likes of Wilson. If that is the case, it doesn't even come close because the collection of work from the Wilson Telescopes have proven to be limited in finding objects in Deep Space and the best of it's work is above.
The 'religious' tone to Wilson is due to the fact it is a distant observatory where Monks once resided. It has absolutely nothing to do with sound science or the fact the orginal monastery burnt to the ground.
Knock it off George. Your indifference to science and the manipulation of the populous of the USA including the minds of children is grossly obvious. Cheney needs to retire. Poor man.
Can't the Pope bless Hubble or something?

KEY LARGO · A rough-tooth dolphin that was rescued after stranding off the Florida Keys unexpectedly delivered a stillborn calf Sunday.
After the birth, the female dolphin remained in guarded condition and a necropsy was being performed on the baby, said Becky Arnold, director of the Florida Keys Marine Mammal Rescue Team. The team was caring for the dolphins on Summerland Key, about 25 miles east of Key West.

Moldova Communists lose majority in parliamentary polls
Members of an electoral commission are counting the at a voting station in Chisinau, March 6, 2005. Exit poll, based on partial voting, in Moldova's parliamentary elections show the Communist party credited with around 40 percent and the main opposition Democratic Moldova bloc likely to get about 29 percent of the vote. (xinhua/AFP photo)
BEIJING, Mar. 7 -- Moldova's Communist party has retained its dominant position in parliamentary elections held Sunday.
Preliminary results early Monday gave the Communists 47 percent of the vote but opposition parties have managed to deny President Vladimir Voronin the outright majority he held previously.
Voronin had campaigned on building closer ties to western Europe and accused Russia of interfering in Moldovan affairs by supporting Russian-speaking separatists.
Voter turnout was estimated at 59 percent.

WELL, THIS IS NO SURPRISE !! Hezbollah wants their own nation. They were willing to live within certain parameters of operation to get a foothold throughout the Middle East for the most part. It was most easy to 'blackmail' Syria and then occupy Lebanon as Israel grew in strength over the decades. It is my opinion Hezbollah was able to exist and grow because of Israel but also because of it's 'benevolent' effect to the Arab Nations that found it helpful to oppose Israel without confronting Israel. A symbiotic relationship developed with the sovereign governments maintaining authority for the sake of acceptance but not control as Hezbollah was and is incidious in it's control of the area. With the advent of a real affront to Lebanon authority Hezbollah has opened it's jugular of motivation and now seeks further alliance with Syria recognizing it no longer has 'covert' status in the region. By losing it's covert intent it is headed for certain destruction IF it cannot conform to civilized status. This article maps out a Hezbollah of opposition to a free Lebanon seeking still a nation of it's own that is Lebanon. Hariri stepping outside the structure of Lebanese government to confront Syria was a sincere threat to Hezbollah and now having caused his death has completely exposed themselves to their nature and intent to the world. This 'context' of Hezbollah might surprise the Lebanese but doesn't surprise me. When Syria moved to set standards in Labanon against Hariri it was due to the rise of Shi'ites in Iraq and Hezbollah saw that as THE opportunity they needed to dominate the area and claim at very least Lebanon as their own. More than likely if Hezbollah was able to take over Lebanon there would have been oppression and killings of Lebanese. I still believe Hezbollah THE definitive danger to the area and the peace. Syria needs to proceed with separation negotiations. This move by Hezbollah is simply pandering to Syria to remove themselves from negotiations and a somewhat silent pledge to begin terrorist campaigns to permanently instill Syria if the Syrian troops remain. The agenda actually is to find some stability for their cause by arming and aligning with Syrian troops 'just long enough.'

Shi'ite militant group urges protests in Beirut
By Scott Wilson, Washington Post March 7, 2005
BEIRUT -- The leader of Hezbollah, the militant Shi'ite Muslim movement that for weeks has stood on the sidelines of Lebanon's political upheaval, called yesterday for national demonstrations against what he characterized as foreign influences seeking to expel the party's Syrian sponsors from the country.
The announcement by Hassan Nasrallah, a Shi'ite cleric who is Hezbollah's secretary general, dashed the hopes of Lebanese opposition leaders that the large, disciplined movement would join their cause to drive Syrian troops and intelligence services from Lebanon. The first demonstration is scheduled for tomorrow in Beirut, along an avenue near the central square where Lebanon's anti-Syrian opposition movement has staged round-the-clock protests since the assassination of former prime minister Rafik Hariri on Feb. 14.

More women finding careers in zoos
By Rachel Ellner, Globe Correspondent, 3/6/05
When Linda Rohr Bachers was growing up in Wisconsin she thought the only way she could be around animals was to marry a farmer. She didn't know that careers working with elephants, rare birds, and big cats existed for women. Today she keeps track of the daily lives of 1,000 animals at Zoo New England.
