I saw Senator Schumer on Morning Joe. He is exactly correct. This is not politics. This is decency, the compassion of the American people, the mandates of the USA Constitution, especially the Rule of Law and Due Process.
At risk are lives of the American people, their very freedom of expression and expression of the arts, including free and open elections, the safety of the people and their property of any kind, and the high integrity of children.
I remind we have fought this form of oppression and violence. Iraq had roaming bands of death squads. We the American people through the astounding bravery of our journalists learned of this invasive threat to Iraqis and demanded that end. Those death squads never exists before our invasion into Iraq. Saddam had his military units that were dangerous, but, roaming deaths squads were a new danger to the Iraqi people. We demanded civilization for the Iraqi people and we will do no less for our citizens.
The danger of the Trump federal paradigm is increasing in violence and lawlessness by authoritarianism. What Americans are witnessing in Minnesota is pure terror of our fellow citizens. It is so out of line with a civilized society where policing is mostly invisible in our daily lives. God help you if you are speeding or driving while intoxicated, but, outside of law enforcement that demands safety in our lives we don’t even recognize their presence.
Today law enforcement authorities are receiving reports of assaults of their own officers. Right Wing Radicals (Bovino) in the federal force are confronting state and local law enforcement while attempting to intimidate them to join with an out of control ICE. It is not the place of state and/or local law enforcement to carry out enforcement of customs or otherwise. In addition to these unreasonable demands and assaults, the federal agents are increasing the danger to citizens that far exceed any danger immigrants can or will cause. Federal agents are carrying out warrantless home invasions.
As Senator Schumer states there are accepted police tactics and strategies in handling criminals in any community. These police standards are disobeyed and dishonored by federal agents. This must stop.
Senator Schumer as he spoke on Morning Joe was absolutely correct. I endorse him fully and hope the stance taken by the current Congress to rein in a frighteningly out of control federal authority continues to complete resolution as Senate Minority Leader Schumer stated so well.
There is no sunlight between what I personally believe needs to be done and the demands as stated by Senator Schumer.
No American wants lawlessness. That is understood as a profound truth of our society. Bring criminals to justice through Due Process will always be a demand. But, our highest values of humanity, even for our own citizens, are under attack and no American should accept it.
I believe Congress is waking to the reality every American is facing these days and the leadership has taken shape with unequivocal paths to our citizens’ safety.
Immigrants and refugees are welcome in the USA. It is who we are. Our country is a great country and Trump’s administration will not take it away from us. Ever.
