There will be no military option. If Denmark detects malfeasance with a NATO ally, the people are best evacuated from their country to safety. Looking at Denmark’s crisis (not NATO) I believe the malfeasance and unprovoked attack on basically peaceful and unarmed people is criminal.
Military damage to Greenland has dire consequences. It would begin enormous ice quakes and ice fall resulting in tsunamis.
The loss of the cultural significance of Greenland is an absolute crime. I remind of the continued pursuit of the theft of Hebrew art even today.
If the people of Greenland want autonomy from Denmark an open debate on You Tube followed by a national vote is in order.
Autonomy as a free island country such as Iceland is still a NATO ally.
Autonomy is very different than a purchase by the USA making Greenland a territory eligible for statehood. Considering the poor treatment of Puerto Rico, becoming a state is not likely. Greenland would be raped of whatever assets are left over after the ice tsunamis took their toll on the USA coastline as well as the world.
The best way forward is peace with Denmark and that is a State Department issue with a separate treaty from that of NATO.
