The photographer is correct. I would be seeking shelter until the storm passed.

Photographer states :: Coming out of the restaurant I thought these were strange looking clouds.


6) If you are caught outside and no shelter is available:
Find a low spot away from trees, fences, and poles
Squat low to the ground on the balls of your feet, place your hands on your knees with your head between them, make yourself the smallest target possible and minimize your contact with the ground.


This measure can apply to more than schools. It's just a good idea for anyone without 'dedicated safe areas' that are tornado shelters as well.

Go to interior rooms and halls on the lowest floor, but avoid halls that open to the outside in any direction. If there are no interior hallways, avoid those that open to the southwest, south, or west, since that is the usually the direction the tornado will come. Stay away from glass, both in windows and doors. Crouch down, and make as small a "target" as possible.
