An amazing news event. Thank you, Lawrence O'Donnell.

Seriously.
...Deaths to teenagers 12-19 years (click here) comprise a small fraction of the total deaths occurring each year in the United States. From 1999 to 2006 less than 1 percent (0.68 percent)–or 131,000 deaths–occurred to teenagers 12-19 years. This represents an average of 16,375 deaths per year for this group. Teenage mortality is an important public health issue because the majority of deaths among teenagers are caused by external causes of injury such as accidents, homicide, and suicide. These causes of death are, by definition, preventable....
Pediatricans as individuals and in their professional organizations need to address the growing problem with violence against our children. Onine chat rooms and their influence need to be addressed in a real and measurable way. White Supremacists/Nationalists are required to attend school up to the age of 16.
Violence in schools needs to be an annual school class that all parents MUST attend or have social workers visit the house. Parents and teachers as well as administrators need to know the signs of depression and aggression that is inappropriate. The concept of "cliques" or "posses" need to be discussed and put into place the idea that social exclusivity is not a healthy interaction for any child or teen. When teens isolate into groups of any kind there is always the issue of belonging and who does not belong.
The issue of gun violence in particular should be discussed ad nauseum with parents and educators. There are signs about this stuff and it cannot be ignored. Any inkling at all of any type of gun appreciation by a young student that is not allowed to purchase one, and can only have one for hunting with supervision of a parent needs to be called out and guidance councilors informed of the danger such ideology places within the school setting.
Art should be appropriate for the age group.
Students stuggling with their studies MUST be considered in danger of failure as an adult. I know there are plenty of examples otherwise, but, for any school to allow failure to go on unchecked the problems simply continue to mount. Even a grocery clerk needs to count change.
Social isolation of any kind is a warning sign that social work needs to get involved and evaluate the home environment and the students failure to be socially engaged.
A school can set up all sorts of magnatometers, security guards, etc., but, the warning signs are available to all to see and should be addressed before they result in tragedy on or off school grounds. This violence in the USA with guns flowing like water is an outrage and the professional organizations must bring about dialogues about this to end such hideous laws allowing this danger in our country.
There are no violence guidelines for parents. It is grossly ignored by pediatricians in the world of 2021.
How do teenagers grow and develop during ages 15 to 18? (click here)
The ages from 15 to 18 are an exciting time of life. But these years can be challenging for teens and their parents. Emotions can change quickly as teens learn to deal with school, their friends, and adult expectations. Teen self-esteem is affected by success in school, sports, and friendships. Teens tend to compare themselves with others, and they might form false ideas about their body image. The influence of TV, magazines, and the Internet can add to a teen's poor body image.
For parents, the teen years are a time to get to know their teenager. While teens are maturing, they still need a parent's love and guidance. Most do just fine as they face the challenges of being a teen. But it is still important for teens to have good support from their parents so that they can get through these years with as few problems as possible.
There are four basic areas of teenage development:
- Physical development. Most teens enter puberty by age 15. Girls go through a time of rapid growth right before their first menstrual period. And by age 15, girls are near their adult height. Boys usually continue to grow taller and gain weight through their teen years.
- Cognitive development. As they mature, teens are more able to think about and understand abstract ideas such as morality. They also begin to understand other people better. Even though they have a certain amount of empathy and can understand that others have different ideas, they often strongly believe that their own ideas are the most true.
- Emotional and social development. Much of teens' emotional and social growth is about finding their place in the world. They are trying to figure out "Who am I?" and "How do I fit in?" So it is normal for their emotions to change from day to day.
- Sensory and motor development. Boys continue to get stronger and more agile even after puberty. Girls tend to level out. Getting plenty of exercise helps improve strength and coordination in boys and girls.
Oh, that. How is the war on youth going?

The authorities identified the dead as Hana St. Juliana, 14; Madisyn Baldwin, 17; and Tate Myre, 16, who died in a sheriff’s squad car while on the way to a hospital. The injured students ranged in age from 14 to 17, officials said, including three who were in critical condition and another who was in serious condition. The only adult who was shot, a 47-year-old teacher, had been discharged from a hospital.
“I was just kind of sitting there shaking,” said Dale Schmalenberg, 16, who said he was in calculus class when his teacher heard a gunshot and locked down the classroom. “I didn’t really know how to respond.”
The rampage at Oxford High School, north of Detroit in Oakland County, was the deadliest shooting on school property this year, according to Education Week, which tracks such shootings and has reported 28 of them in 2021....
Aurora - Three 16-year-old boys have been charged with attempted murder (click here) in a Nov. 19 Hinkley High School parking lot shooting that left three teenage students wounded, setting off a storm of investigation and worry across the region.
Police said their investigation revealed the shooting was gang-related after boys accused of shooting said they were armed at the school in fear they would be jumped during a fight with rival gang members.
Four other boys were named in arrest affidavits but have not been charged with crimes, even though they, too, were implicated in the court documents. Police declined to answer questions about the investigation, referring queries to the district attorney’s office.
Facing four counts of attempted first-degree murder and multiple other charges are Larry Renee Jefferson, Dalen Lenale Brewer and Diego Flores. Another boy, wounded while riding inside the truck, was not charged....
The 15-year-old was a new student at Eastern High and enrolled in early November, weeks after the killing, sources told News4.
The arrest at the Northeast D.C. school occurred the same day an 18-year-old student was found to have a “ghost gun,” in an unrelated case....
The European Commission
The emergency issue along the borders of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia was addressed and their proposed policy aligns more closely with the USA policy regarding immigration. The people coming to the border of the European Union from communist countries must have reasons for a safe haven and not simply because they decided to come to live in a different country.
The proposed regulations will now go before the EU legislators for a vote to pass into law. Also as part of the measure, the emergency land will be expanded if the votes uphold the proposal. Land expansion will provide a more secure stance of the region and minimize the spread of disease as well.
